You agreed with a poster who said he lost sympathy for BLM after he saw a few people stomp and spit on a flag, if you did so in error, then by all means, you should probably correct yourself.
The police did not have the whereabouts of Hughes, and were told by bystanders that he was the shooter (they jumped to conclusions because he stood out, walking around with an open carry rifle).
The shooter they don't have to look for.

Well, if this is your opinion, so be it. In my opinion, if you stomp and spit on a flag you are stupid as hell and prove nothing at all. If you wanna prove a point, be smart, not an asshole.
I assume because the police were looking for more info on Hughes and reaching out to the local community. They don't need any info on the suspects they arrested/killed

They were "lone" in that they weren't affiliated with any group, but there are apparently 4 people suspected to be involved with coordinating the shooting or with the shooting itself

He didn't shoot himself, the police chief said they drove in a robot with an explosive and detonated it. The explosion killed the suspect.
The police loaded a bomb defusing robot with a bomb, had it approach the killer, and then detonated the bomb blowing him up.
Flags mean different things to different people.
Technically, the Confederate flag is just another flag/piece of cloth too. For some it's a symbol of hate, for others it means more. Telling either one of those groups that the flag is just a piece of cloth and people should deal with it would justifiably anger both groups.

Safest way to deal with the situation, sadly. He claimed to have a bomb. Had the police tried to rush him they would have died as well.
The SOP for a possible bomb is to remote detonate it with a robot. They lose the robot, but no one else dies. The guy got caught in the explosion.

It's not about the actual physical cloth fabric that is the flag, it's about the message being sent by burning it. They're not doing it just because it's a flag. They're doing it because it represents the USA, or they would've burned something else.

CNN, FOX News...etc, they are all pretty trash. They rely almost entirely on sensationalism to pull in ratings, reporting the straight forward news is entirely secondary. When anything like this happens I don't watch any of the biggest news channels, they just end up making me furious when it becomes a sideshow to pull in viewers.

There was already a press conference nearly two hours ago.
I'm guessing those robots are not that fast or mobile.
Also, they negotiated with that guy for over an hour. The entire time he was shooting at them.
