it means a lot actually. if mario kart 8 sold 5 million copies and nintendo made $30 off each copy sold, they'd make $150,000,000 in profit off the game before overhead, taxes, etc. how many users and in-app purchases would be needed to match that after royalties?
Well I agree with you there, they should stick with both until the bottom drops out on dedicated hardware.A fraction of the audience that also pays 40$ rather 0$ + unknown sums of money in IAPS, usually dominated by a select few whales. 15m copies of Pokemon sold on the 3DS is $600m before we cut out retailer shares, so let's say $450m making it way back home. Plus it moves hardware (profitable) and accessories to some degree and some of that will be pure digital and drives other digital services (PokeBank).
That, much as Pokemon GO generates as well, is a lot of money.
So why not both?
Didn't they say Go and S/M would have some type of functionality between each other?Hopefully this game is still huge in November. It'd be nice to see how much a successful Pokemon GO affects sales of Sun and Moon.

Did Nintendo have any involvement in Pokemon Go, though?
Read thisHow much of this is actually Nintendo? Isn't Pokemon owned by a few companies?

This pisses me off because Go is such a vapid experience. I hope people leave it in a month like they with Miitomo.
Yes, but this was never advertised as one of Nintendo's main mobile games like Miitomo, Fire Emblem, or Animal Crossing.Didn't they invest 20 million into niantic and wasn't iwata was a designer on this?
No one ever actually said this and you know it.
The question is if they can continue to reach those types of sales in a shrinking market. If they can, it absolutely continues to makes sense to be in the dedicated hardware business.
Just remembering all the doom and gloom fan worries about Nintendo going third party makes me laugh.
Iwata came up with the idea after the April's Fool with Google.
Seriously.
I specifically remember tons of peopleclaiming that going mobile would destroy nintendo's handheld business that that it would doom the companyfanboys
they were mostly parroting what iwata was saying at the time, which is that they'd never release their games on mobile platforms
don't make me dig for quotes, I promise it's true

Maybe, an app like Netflix on the tv? Turn the tv on and press the Nintendo app.dedicated hardware is an old decaying business for everyone, true. when i think of non-dedicated nintendo, i start thinking of nintendo on pc with their own store/digital platform like steam.
This is what will happen, not Nintendo on Xbox or Playstation.dedicated hardware is an old decaying business for everyone, true. when i think of non-dedicated nintendo, i start thinking of nintendo on pc with their own store/digital platform like steam.
are we really going to do this?I specifically remember tons of peopleclaiming that going mobile would destroy nintendo's handheld business that that it would doom the companyfanboys

Watching the nerds come out of the woodwork in these threads is always a good time though.
I think the lifespan of the game should be interesting. Customers that play mobile games can be rather fickle.
I gave it a browse, and yeah, no kidding. It's like they're surprisingly resistant to basic reality.Ha, "remembering"? You can already see it throughout this thread. Unfortunately Pokemon Go's success seems to have fueled that notion for many.
Pokemon been a fad for 20 years.
Ingress was still pretty popular 3 years after.
Pokemon + Ingress = People will leave it in a month because reasons.
Infinity dollars.this is their QoL imitative lol. I have never seen so many obvious gamers walking around...phones in hand and smiles on faces.Do Zelda Go next, please. Buildings are dungeons and Houses are Shrines; you go inside them and solve puzzles and kill bosses. Break vases and pots to get virtual rupees.
It's going to be fucking great.
This is what will happen, not Nintendo on Xbox or Playstation.
Yeah, neither is console gaming. ;PThe only reason I'm a bit wary on this happening is due to PC gaming not being all that big of a deal in Japan.
With this performance, I think that we will never see a true 3DS successor
b/c they're going back to one screen
It's mindboggling people seriously think this will drop off after a month.Pokemon been a fad for 20 years.

As an investor (and someone who has been unable to install the game yet since he is busy) I am curious, do people see the software being easily malleable to be enhanced over time by Niantic? More pokemon, better gameplay, phone on phone battles?
No one ever said it would doom their company (ok, I'm sure there are a small handful of people that did). I'm sure many said it could doom their dedicated handheld business. And honestly, it might eventually. But that's not what you said and it's not what I responded to.
No idea. Not the intent. My apologies.
It's just frustrating that people seriously want this to be the avenue Nintendo go down, when it'd kill them.
