Gameplay Trailer

Okay guys: So, it is good or bad? because i heard bad things about the japanese version, and i don't want this to be bad... :(

I tried the Japanese demo on the PS Store last year and as someone who tries to pick up and love every mech game out there, I didn't like it at all. The entire demo had an unfair difficulty where I was dying to shots I couldn't react to because the AS is too slow. Imagine playing Contra as a slow mech and that was my experience. The game looks nice but I couldn't even recommend wasting your time downloading the demo.

I'll pick up the retail, but putting it a month+ behind digital almost makes me not want to get it at all. Obnoxious practice. :/

Waiting for that PC release, hoping it has high resolution support. Might double-dip, got the physical import PS4 version.

I think it's very good. If you liked Assault Suits Valken or Gunhound EX, you'll probably like this.

Did you use the shield or the slide? This game is plenty 1cc-able, but you obviously can't approach things like in Contra. The player's mech having weight to it is a huge, fundamental part of this subgenre.

Are you new to the series? If so, just try a demo to see if it is for you. It's basically a bullet-hell shmup with very complex controls but once you get a hang of it it is very solid game.

You're supposed to dash.

The game is fun, it might take you sometime to get used to the controls ( you need to reload the weapons etc).

so, just like the original

Has anyone checked to see if the Genesis cheat codes work on the new version?

---------

9 lives:
Begin playing the game and get past level 2. After it's over, enter the options screen and press Start. A woman will appear and say ''Continue Up'' to confirm correct code entry. This may be repeated at any time if your lives have dropped below three.

Invincibility:
During the game press Start on controller two and you should be invincible

Never played this back on the megadrive. Is it better than Assault Suits Valken (not fucking Cybernator!!), which I really loved on the snes?

Oh man I fucking LOVED Valken back in my high school days. The gameplay was a blast once you got used to how the assault suit handled. Blew my mind when I found out it had two endings.

If this is in the vein of Cybernator and Metal Warriors then I'm buying it immediately. Is it that? Or is it truly that asshole offspring of Target Earth that I also like but made me get anger boners? Either way, bought.

I loved Cybernator way back when but that was decades ago. Did Cybernator (Valken) have any new game mechanics over Leynos?

Yeah. Valken added blocking, made the jetpack / booster a core mechanic (instead of it just being an optional upgrade), and removed Leynos's weapon loadout system, instead letting you gather and upgrade a small set of weapons over the course of the game. Valken is way less challenging than Leynos but also a lot more polished (speaking about the original Leynos, at least).

Really excited for this. I feel like it's gonna turn out to be the best game in the Assault Suits series.

This is way more like Valken than Leynos mechanically, and the default mode is probably between original Valken and Leynos difficulty-wise, but there's also hard-ass Classic mode in this.

Sir Ilpalazzo covered it, but just to be clear, this game uses a lot of those mechanics that Valken added to the series.

I imported this a while ago, it's a nice game but I really wish they hadn't applied a blur filter over the top between demo 2 and 3. The game looked so nice initially but it's uglier now.

How I beat this back in the early '90s, I have no idea. It was worth it, though... it still has one of the best endings I can remember from that era.

Now that I take a closer look... this is from the same developers that did Gunhound EX, isn't it? I never actually played that game, but wanted to. Maybe I should pick that one up, too.

So hyped for this game. Where is that review, Shogun?

I really hope we get more of these kinds of games. I'm somewhat over third person shooters at the moment. I need new more arcadey action games like this.

That issue should be mitigated by the PC release, provided it's a decent port.

sounds like you played the version 1 trial, which had considerably slower movement speed and a narrow POV, all which was fixed from trial 2 onward. That said, as long as you were shielding and dashing, the game is not particularly hard regardless of the version you played, so I don't know what to tell you? Game is pretty easy (and darn fun) to 1CC on default difficulty.

Most likely, I just didn't notice you could shield/dash since everything was in Japanese. The speed of the game and the weapon system still put me off but knowing I can survive is nice. Though if this is from the same developers as Gunhound EX, that explains a lot since I also disliked that game. I'll give it another try if an English demo comes out; I doubt it can be worse than Gunhound.

OOOOMG I had no idea this was even a thing. Target Earth is one of my favorite Genesis games.

I'm also interested to know if they brought over the cheat codes. There's also one where killing only the final ship in the first mission (and thus having a total score of only ... 2700 iirc) unlocked all the weapons.

Cybernator/Valken, Gunhound, Gigantic Army, and Leynos are pretty similar. Might just not be your cup of tea.

My favorite is still Valken because there is a lot of dialogue with portraits in the middle of the action, which was unheard of in the SNES era. It feels like playing a Gundam episode, and if you fail certain missions you get a different ending.
