Growing out my hair and my beard right now. Bad decision to make during the summer, especially when I live somewhere which reaches 100+ degree weather consistently? Maybe. Still doing it, though. Anyone else currently growing out?

Disgraceful. At least get rid of that ball of fluff you left.
I cant let it go! Not all of it!

I had a sweet goat happening but later on in the day I just said fuck it.

Dont worry though. I'll grow it back. I feel naked and gross. I just started cutting my hair and my brain went haywire and made my hand with the clippers in it start touching my face. I like blacked out and when I regained consciousness it was gone.

I had that thing for like 6 years. I feel dead inside.

I've never felt my beard made any major difference when it was hot outside, not compared to the hair on my head. As long as my head is short I feel comfortable. Beard makes a huge difference against the wind in the winter though.

Coming up for my first full year! Quite badly in need of a trim at the moment, but I'm going to wait until the year is actually up first and have a ceremonial trim. Not going to get any off the length and I'm actually quite comfortable with its broadness right now, so I'll just make sure he gets rid of the stragglers and does something about the curliness of my 'tache.

It's been a while since I posted. I moved out of the city and into a cabin in the woods, so what I'm going for is the hermit look. Honestly, I'm glad I don't have to keep my beard (or few hairs) trimmed anymore. I'm going to give it a few extra months and then maybe next year I'll trim it a bit.

I hate getting hair in my food though, hehe. I keep biting moustache hair.
Will probably buy a pair of scissors and trim it a bit.

Very nice style . Even the hairs .

Where do you guys work? Most places want you to be shaved for the interview but don't let you grow a beard when you start working.

I hate the no beard policy since i keep mine short and "professional" looking

I work at a web dev marketing agency so I interviewed with a beard and haven't needed to shave.

I'm a grad student and currently interviewing for scientist positions. Beards are relatively common in the sciences, so I don't see a reason to shave. I did go to a barber recently and get things cleaned up a bit though, but my beard is still about 2" long. Just less poofy, mainly.

I've been working where I'm working forever. It's generally not a customer facing role (we're setup to work remotely) but as long as I keep it fairly tidy (pushing it right now) they're fine.

It feels like the hair under my chin really tends to want to ball up / kink up. What can I do to help get this portion going down instead?
I used to have this problem. I found brushing up from underneath made all the difference. General routine:

Wash / wet it
Towel dry
Brush down
Brush up
Brush down
Oil
Brush down (to help the oil into the beard)
Brush up (as above)
Brush down
Comb (to tidy it up)
Work on the 'tache

I only comb when everything else is done because it has a tendency to catch even using a pretty wide toothed comb otherwise. I can probably streamline that process somewhat, but once I'm in a routine I find it hard to break!

Independent web developer, but I started keeping it years ago when I was employed. It's pretty common in software development, design, etc. There's the odd company that tries to enforce a dress code or no-beard or stuff like that, but it's definitely the minority.

In the US I've rarely seen or heard a no beard policy. Just so long as it looks professional and kempt. Now there's places you probably don't want to have one (like food factories were you have to wear beard nets that are a pita), but in general in the professional community I can't imagine you'll have any issues. And honestly any place still clinging to a "no beard" policy is probably not going to be the best work environment. Now long hair on the other hand still has a pretty bad stigma. And neck tattoos. But all those stigmas are fading more every year.

I'm a contracted behavior specialist. So there's no beard rule since I'm not really an employee anywhere.

I've only had positive things said about my beard, and people usually comment on how well I keep it, even if they admit they don't prefer that length in the same breath.

I'm impressed with how well my shape holds up even with Bi monthly trimmings. I rarely have a "bad beard day" now whereas I felt like I was having them every other day before

Alright I need some help. I am getting an area of dry/dead skin under my beard, it's localized to the right side of my chin, literally not much bigger than a bottle cap in size. I have bought some beard soap, will it go away if I wash my beard a little more often for a few days? Is there something else I should get/do? That spot has been pretty itchy for a few weeks now and it's starting to get to me.

I do oil my beard everyday, just FYI.

So this is where I'm at right now guys, the beard is still pretty new. Less than two months I think. I don't use any products but I keep it trimmed and shaped with scissors.

Happy to join your ranks.

looking good
Welcome

I think I need some of that beard growing cream stuff. Mines always gets to a certain point and just stops growing. I guess its good since I can get a consistent line-ups but I really want the beard connected to mustaches with the soul patch.

Don't think that stuff works whatsoever.

Sadly my beard is not to be, I have to go back to work Sunday after vacation and must shave it off. X_X

It's only lived for 1 week ><

You don't look bad without the beard, but keeping that patch on your chin does look bad
Its ok. My beard is coming back in now. I usually grow it out longer in the chin area anyway so I got a bit if a head start now. No patch noticeable now.

Im going to get some oils and stuff this time around. See if it makes much of a difference. I only really combed it last time. I used some argan oil a few years back but I'm going to pick up some specialty shit this time.

It's actually quite unruly at the moment. Going in for a trim on Tuesday and I'll try and pluck up the courage after that. Not a fan of having my photo taken!
