Messing with Ansel

Does Ansel actually offer anything beyond what HattiWatti's tool already gave us?

Does the "gigapixel" capture thing work yet?

No idea on the first as I never used them but the oversampled capture is disabled in MEC at the moment. It's basically a time freeze + free camera with fov and tilt + some built in filters. Well, the 360/stereo capture is unique I think.

Your reshade tweaks sound interesting, I'd be curious to see a comparison for with and without reshade.

Here are four comparison shots.

Ambient Light introduces some of the banding back but not as in your face as vanilla. Deband alone cleans up the image perfectly, but I like that moody glow from AL especially in dark areas.

edit: here are the original png's. first shot is vanilla, second one is reshade

I don't know if it's just me, but everyone keeps saying that the witcher 3 is an amazing looking game. Unfortunately every time I see screen shots of the game, it looks like shit. The foliage looks poor, the water looks poor, and some of the character models are laughably bad. Like I don't see what everyone else is seeing. When it comes to open world games, I don't think it's even in the top 5 looking open world games. Dragon Age: the inquisition, Mad Max, GTA V, Batman Arkham Knight, Infamous SS, Farcry Primal, and the Division look significantly better. I could go on.

I have all those games but Primal and still think TW3 look pretty good overall taking in mind the size of the world, about the foliage i still think that KCD is there on the top:

DA:I definitely doesn't look as good, The Division has its moments, but no foliage so hard to compare. The rest... haha :) I mean... Primal? Seriously?

Now if you'd say "The Witcher 3 doesn't look as good indoors as some Open world games", then you'd have a point, and it's also known why. Outdoors... it's pretty great looking. Perhaps AC Unity looks better at places, as it has more realistic lighting than the witcher 3 does, but then again, it doesn't have real time 24h ambient lighting cycle (just 4, so you can precalc these) so it's apples vs. oranges.

But let's see, why don't you show us 2 comparison shots, from PC, one being the witcher 3, one being DA:I or FC Primal with similar setting, e.g. in the woods.

Hey, that's interesting! What is this? Reshade 1.1, 2.0 or SweetFX alone? Is it costly?

This game looks interesting. Is it true about that shitty DRM, tho?

I think you're in the minority there for sure. I've yet to see anyone go through my Witcher 3 albums and say it's a bad looking game. Foliage in Blood and Wine does look better as well.

I don't see how you think DAI looks better. The environments in that game as so damn sparse that there's hardly anything to compare. It just feels empty.

Mad Max has practically nothing to render. Just desert.

And if we're talking grass, The Division has some of the worst I've seen this generation. Luckily it only has to worry about rendering 1 type of environment.

The Witcher 3 excels at putting together a world that feels authentic and lived in. The graphics compliment it about as well as can be expected considering the SCALE. Some textures are lower res and it's not using state of the art lighting, but it's still perhaps the most immersive game I've ever played.

And it says something that I can load up any randon save and pull out good looking screenshots (IMO).

Yea I completely agree. The Witcher 3 has a far better art and world design. Each texture on it's own may not look as good as some of the games you mentioned but when put together it looks amazing. Every scene could be a painting. Also yea FC: Primal looks like garbage in comparison.

Deband shader puttin in WORK. The ambient light looks very ethereal too. Thanks for sharing.

While I agree with this, where TW3 really lacks for me is in its lighting/shader quality. Just not on the level that we've seen with other titles this gen.

Cropped (to remove hud)/ downsampled / postprocessed in FastStone. Game is OK, a little easy, but overall it's a great hack&slash RPG/diablo clone.

Not sure a freecam would help much in this game, considering it only has geometry which is visible by the camera which is fixed looking down.

Decided to go for a second playthrough, now armed with at least more clues what composition even means than my first playthrough. Not sure how long I can bare it, we'll see :)

So apparently when you're using your gamepad in DirectInput mode you can't use the Steam's screenshotting function since the X presses don't register. Thus I have only one screenshot from this game =)
