All of the other versions are super safe and unnecessary remixes with little differences. The Walk the Moon version being the most unneeded. It's like a Guitar Hero cover when they couldn't use the original.

That's why I like the Walk the Moon version, lol. It doesn't change the song up at all, and the original is still the best. I agree, though - they should have just used the original. I would have liked that even more.

I really hope this bombs.

It's genderswapped classic movie. I can't imagine that any real thought was put into it other than "what would this scenario play out if they were women?"

gender didn't really play a big factor in the movie, tbh. You could have swapped the genders of the characters and I don't think it would have changed much at all. It's pretty different than the original movies, and doesn't feel like they were trying to retell the same story. It was less like how every batman mythos has his parents dying, and more like how all the final fantasy games are their own, unconnected things.

It's great but I think we all know the true GOAT remix.

This is like when you get the DVD for a TV show and they don't license the original theme song, and you wind up with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlZf1HBHWu4 (and yes, the SMS version has the lyrics scroll across the title screen, which is awesome)

When I was a kid, I would listen to this for like a solid hour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvpWhkofHgE

because it played on a loop throughout the entire game, with no other music.

Oh man I really loved that-and so did the audience in my theater. I loved the entire team and I'm dying to see a sequel.

Sorry, having a different personality doesn't sell me on them being different characters. It's a different actor and the names are changed. That's about all I'm sold on.

different actor, different name, different personality... but you think they're the same character? lol

I quite enjoyed it but I feel like there was a better movie in there somewhere. Some threads and character bits that didn't really go anywhere.

Saw the movie Friday night and it was really good fun! Not incredible but not awful, just good fun. Had the nice Paul Feig touches that I really like. Kate McKinnon was awesome.

All the same character. Completely different personalities. No names given. All they do is fill a role, and they're all completely different. However they're still the same character, and everyone agrees to it.

So now suddenly the rules are switched for just this movie? That ain't right.

Tony Camonte vs. Tony Montana from both Scarface movies. They're not the same character? That ain't right.

rules? who set these rules?

Also, is your goal to try and somehow win an argument that Ghostbusters is a genderswap? Because if so, that's not a line of discussion I really want to engage in.

What is happening here

Just got back from seeing it. I don't really know. The movie is very poorly constructed. Story elements and plot points aren't properly set-up and stuff just happens because it's convenient. There are no stakes at all. No conflict or sense of drama. The whole thing has this super broad comic vibe, almost like its a parody or cartoon. Plus it was shot like a typical modern comedy. Everything seemed flat and stationary with very little cinematic style

The main cast is really good. Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth, in particular, were great. I just wish they had actual characters to play. Some of the ghost designs were cool and the opening set-piece and their first call was great. There were some cool ideas introduced t like
the government being involved with the Ghostbusters
.

The pieces seemed to be in place for a good movie, but it just didn't come together. But it's all let down by a terrible script, bland filmmaking and a cartoon atmosphere that's always cranked to 11.

Saw it today. Laughed pretty much the entire time. I quite like Feigs humor so not a big surprise. I'm adding Holtzmann to the top of my waifu rankings.

Let's just go with this:

If your definition of character is as strict as the exact representation of the character as it was before, then I'll concede that they are not the same characters. However if you can ever consider that a role can ever be symbolic in nature, then you should realize how much these two examples have in common.

When a director says "This is a David vs. Goliath" story, you don't just say "that's not David" and be done with it. That's not all there is to it. There can be many layers to add to it to make the characters stand out from their inspirational sources, and that's great, I would consider those two to be both the same character and different characters at the same time, depending on the circumstances of the conversation.

However if you're going to give me: The same plot; nearly the same setting; a "remake" or retelling or however you want to label it (it's not a sequel and starts from the beginning, where the original started off at), give me very similar characters that fill the same roles as the original source, and then tell me that those characters are not the old characters that they're based off of... I'm sorry but I just can't agree.

It's like one of those knock off Disney movies of ages past, where all the characters had different names and the animation sucked, but all of the events followed basically the same exact pattern and/or theme. (as far as I'm aware these things are still made)

As far as you're aware about any of this isn't very far.

I'm still not sure what you're trying to say. All of the new characters are completely different than the old ones, they aren't some hollow shell of Venkman or Egon.

The only roles they serve are to bust ghosts because they are still the Ghostbusters

The only closest comparison I can think of is that Abby and Ray are both knowledgeable and enthusiastic but other than that every character is wholly original-there's no smart-Alec like Venkman, Etc.

If anything, they're combinations of past characters with unique twists... But gender has nothing to do with it. This could have been Adam Sandler and gang or Seth Rogan and co. Not really sure was his tantrum was about.

I dunno why, but i keep thinking of Holtz's as like the Michelangelo of the team personality wise.

if you're going to try and make an argument that a film is gender swapped, start with seeing the film so you can actually critique it instead of reciting other people's assumptions ad nauseam.

Gender had little or nothing to do with the movie - it's really a non issue. It just felt very Hollywood McCarthy to me instead of a genuine heart and soul ghostbusters movie.

I am excited to see this whenever I can, GAF certainly makes it sound interesting and I am one of the few people who actually liked the trailer.

Funny you mention that.
Yeah and it's a better movie than this one by quite a bit actually. I think the sequel has the potential to be something great but it just didn't get there. I am glad they are moving ahead for a sequel but honestly I would be shocked if this movie broke even which is a bad thing since I want the sequel.

I'm going to fundamentally disagree as Feig movies have a ton of heart underneath.

I think Feig is one of the most talented comedic directors/writers working right now.
I don't know he seems to be very hit and miss.

It probably won't, but I don't think any version of a GB movie in 2016 at 150 million would have.

That said fundamentally disagree that GB II is better thn this one, let alone by quite a but to each their own.

I don't know he seems to be very hit and miss.

I've loved every movie he's done since Bridesmaids.

He's 4 for 4 in my books so.

Yeah it's all opinions. nothing wrong with either.

I am more 2 for 4, Spy is my favorite movie of his lately but I didn't mind bridemaids but it didn't blow me away to be far, I haven't seen it again since it was released. I never saw the heat and I am on the fence about ghostbusters since it has alot of good parts and the cast is sooo good.

That was quite good. I enjoyed it and I'm sure I'll revisit it. Some really good stuff in there, and while it won't be as quotable as the original film man, there are some gems:

"And in this room PT Barnum first had the idea of enslaving elephants"

"Room fulla nightmares. Nope"

"You know a fishtank is like a submarine for fish"

"Its the year 2040. Our president is a plant"

Oh right! That was hilarious. And yes-that was the minute I knew the type of humor we were dealing with.
