The preview makes it seem as if we'll finally get a flashback episode set during the third movie's epilogue.

Structurally the show's been kinda nuts, but I understand that they wanted to start with a bang, without alienating new viewers with exposition from the Golden Age arc.

Starting with a bang would be Guts vs the Slug Count in my opinion. Not Guts vs a giant pissed off tree.

He'll have the cheapest 2D textures they could afford, will probably be drawn on a styrofoam coffee cup. I just had the idea of Berserk done with sock puppets...I'm dying over here now.

The last 3-4 minutes of the last episode were like 40 pages. Even with the added story, the last ep adapted +- 100 pages. This is going as fast as possible.

Who know's if we'll even see Godo.

He has a VA so he probably appears.

Their talk before Guts runs off in search of Casca was a good one. Makes me wish they would just use some of the music from the 1997 anime for that episode because whatever they come up with will probably fall short.

Mediocre would have been alright. It's amateur hour and embarassing.

Jojo has a different tone and the writing was for a younger public in mind. Both series have been treated like shit before. Araki pulled back the Phantom Blood movie and the OVA's cut down on a lot of content. Besides that it was way too dark for jojo and lacked the great humor.

Berserk got the good end first and the bad end later. The only thing that's good is the brand awareness. Berserk should get a reboot following the manga closely maybe like Hellsing Ultimate. Directly into the hands of fans uncensored and uncut. A definitive adaption that can replace the old ones.

It makes me worried about LOGH. Luckily the translation of the novels are coming along nicely.

good thing LotGH already has a perfect anime adaptation.

If you look at the behind the scenes for the latest Guilty Gear game you will see the huge amount of extra work they had to put in to make everything look just right. Its not easy and takes a ton of effort.

There was a prototype animation showing things like Zodd in his apostle form and some other shots. Basically a test run. The sad part is that test run looked far superior to anything we got after the fact.

They didn't spend that much time animating the 5 hours story mode that comes with the games.

The story mode is the middle ground between the perfection of the gameplay and automatically rendered cell shade.

It demands less work, still quite a fair amount of polish to fine tune it, but nothing not doable.

So the berserk shit graphics are only due to laziness, lack of ambition, and lack of talent.

The models themselves look awful, the art direction is awful, the rendering is awful, that's not even bringing up what GG spent time on : limited animation and shadows.

Well I think we agree? The Guilty Gear team had to go the extra mile to get things looking just right and it seems the new Berserk team didn't even make it to the starting line.

To be fair, Guilty Gear only has a handful of characters, and we'll never be able to compare budgets, but I imagine there was quite a bit more time dedicating to creating and perfect each model, compared to say... the horse which had all of 20 seconds of screen time.

That doesn't explain why the face on Gut's model looks terrible.

I'm guessing the studio and publisher was excited for the idea of carrying on what Studio 4'C did, but their ambitions were well above the what the talent pool could create, and those problems spilled over into every other shot.

I look at the part in episode three when Guts had his sword stuck in the rock, and how there was a series of shots with only extreme closeups, and I imagine a Shirobako moment behind the scenes where everything went very wrong, and the only solution to solve it in time for the air date was to make it an extreme closeup and hope the audience's imagination was enough to retain shot continuity.

With all the 3D elements, it really feels like an expensive show that looks cheap and horrible. If the japanese reception somehow doesn't have the same distaste as this thread and people actually buy the blu-ray, I'm guessing they'd learn from their mistakes and a second season would definitely have more 2D elements for the same amount of money.

I just watched the first episode. 1997 dealt solid justice to Berserk's wonderful art. From moment one in this show, I had a feeling that the series is going to do more to highlight the weaknesses of Berserk rather than its strengths. I guess I was right. This is probably one of the worst adaptations of source material I've seen in awhile and it's probably not going to get much better considering what material they're skipping and what they're focusing on.

Doesn't help that the studio involved is clearly inexperienced with CGI in comparison to other Studios like Studio Anima and Orange in that department.
