If they're skipping
Troll Village,
does that mean there is no
Berserker armour and no Skull Knight?
?

Or
Slann trying to rape Guts
? Who needs a
Nippleless Slann any way
. Who needs a low budget version of
Skull Knight
though? He'd probably look like a bone wheel from Dark Souls in this show.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

The show is only 12 episodes long. We are not going to get anywhere near there unless the excise huge parts of the story and rush through what's left. Storywise the show is on... like Volume 15 or 16? and the stuff you're talking about doesn't happen until Volume 22 and 23

Judging from the impressions and screenshots in here... I think I'm better off re-reading the manga.

Though that comes with its own trials and tribulations as one realises how much they fucked up the pacing. Not to mention the release schedule, we used to get 2 volumes a year, now it's like one volume every three years.

*sigh

Looks like the new anime won't be able to deflect some of the fandom's wrath towards Miura's speed like the GoT series did for Martin.

You could watch the new show, just know you're getting a bastardized version and make peace with it.

But we see Schierke in the first episode.

This is only getting twelve episodes. I thought it's 24.

still can't get over the dragonslayer sounding like an anvil being struck by a hammer every time it is swung, even when hitting ghosts.

also supremely annoying how the hand-drawn bits have solid art, making the 3d stuff seem even rougher.

As if it was a hunk of raw iron.

I liked the sound of the sword, even if it doesn't make sense; I might get tired of it though if it gets too ridiculous. It's like whenever anyone unsheathes a sword in anime or whatever there is a strong 'shiiiiiing' which is can be annoying and unrealistic but some like it I guess.

The sounds makes it seem like Guts is beating down demons with a frying pan like he's a 50's housewife.

Compare this to the Jojo anime (any season)
I'm willing to bet that the budgets are fairly comparable.

But by God the level of quality between them is enormous.

Also the new PS4 game is already looking leaps and bounds better than this dreck.

It's actually thanks to this anime that I gave Jojo a chance and loved it

It's a shame because as much as I love Jojo, Berserk's content is way superior imo yet it's gets this mediocre work.

He should totally do that, the frying pan is canon now as far as I'm concerned (haven't seen it in the manga yet :p)

But you know, sometimes I get tired of hearing blood splattering for 5 minutes in a fight in some other anime.

So it's 2-cour then? 12 episodes, then break, then 12 episodes again

From the interview, I got the feeling that they might not even do the other 12 episodes. He didn't say so but that's the sentiment I got at least.

JoJo got a few shitty adaptations until 2012, we just have to pray Berserk gets the same treatment one day.

JoJo had the good OVA, the terrible Phantom Blood movie and the excellent David Productions series

Berserk had the great '97 series, the mediocre movies and this shitshow. They aren't too far off. Keep in mind the Phantom Blood movie was so bad it was never given an official release.

why did they even bother with this shitty adaptation in the first place

if i were the publisher, i'd save myself the money and treat my employees to some dinner or a bonus or something

Guts will probably never use anything that is not Dragon Slayer. Schierke offered him an earth imbued magic axe and turned that shit right down.

Haven't watched any episodes yet (waiting to do a rewatch of GA with some folks) -- how does this compare to the movies so far (quality / cut content)? I can't really trust most of the general impressions I see on here since most people also hated the movies.

Mediocre would have been alright. It's amateur hour and embarassing.

Jojo has a different tone and the writing was for a younger public in mind. Both series have been treated like shit before. Araki pulled back the Phantom Blood movie and the OVA's cut down on a lot of content. Besides that it was way too dark for jojo and lacked the great humor.

Berserk got the good end first and the bad end later. The only thing that's good is the brand awareness. Berserk should get a reboot following the manga closely maybe like Hellsing Ultimate. Directly into the hands of fans uncensored and uncut. A definitive adaption that can replace the old ones.

It makes me worried about LOGH. Luckily the translation of the novels are coming along nicely.

I just can't rationalize from a story perspective cutting all the shit they cut.

Guts needs to be shown as the rage demon Black Swordsman in order for anything he does in Conviction to make sense.

I was always hoping for like a new set of movies (maybe 3) covering post-Eclipse material with the quality of the previous trilogy. It's nice to have a show because it feels good to have new Berserk-related material to look forward to each week, but Guts hunting apostles in the animation quality seen in the movies would have been so much better.

Ep 3 was another great one, really enjoyed it. Feels like these episodes go by too quickly, I just want more and more. This series really does need more love. Give me more series, movies, games etc.

I know, right? And it's only 12 freaking episodes which is a shame. At least we'll be getting the game this fall.

Uh, no. 24 episodes. Unless Wikipedia is lying to me.

[EDIT] Guts's stand would be named something like Iron Maiden, or something with Iron, and it would just be his huge-ass sword.
Griffith's stand would look like someone who wants to be your best friend, only to turn on you at the last second because "baaaah muh dreemz".

Its only 12 episodes, the producer literally stated it so the wiki is wrong.

Jojo got them busy for the next decade.
You say that like it's a bad thing. Wish we could get Jojo all year every year.

Griffiths stand would become your best friend and then feed off your admiration for Griffith. Then when you can't love Griffith anymore it eats you. Stand would be called No One Lives Forever.

Fixed.

I absolutely do not. I'm grateful every friday that people who are clearly passionate towards the source material are handling my favorite franchise.
I wish the people in this thread could say the same thing. I love Jojo though. Even the "bad" part was quite enjoyable.
I could actually see that being the case since Griffith loves taking out his angst on other people in a sexual manner.

Repressed homosexuality towards sexy hunks with long, hard, thick iron swords will do that to you...

Or a small penis. Infinitesimally small in fact. No wonder the demon kings named him "Femto".

Yes, I can leave it in their capable hands:

Dropped. I really tried to watch it and gave it a chance till episode 3, but it's just horrible and makes me sad. I will read the manga again after 5 years so that will be good too. I knew the CGI would be horrible, but they don't even good sounds or a good soundtrack... Just bullshit with no budget. :-( one of the few animes that I drop.

Not realistic at all, actually. Swords don't make any noise at all when you draw them.

I do wonder what they used to make the sound of Guts's sword. It does have that hollow quality you would get from a frying pan. It would probably sound much more muffled in real life.

We're 3 episodes in and not even
back at Godo's
yet.
The preview makes it seem as if we'll finally get a flashback episode set during the third movie's epilogue.

Structurally the show's been kinda nuts, but I understand that they wanted to start with a bang, without alienating new viewers with exposition from the Golden Age arc.
