Have they talked if there are still very fantastical environments in the game? I think the realistic environments are refreshing in a sense, but I do miss some of the more fantasy elements.

Yes. The game begins in a realistic setting but the enviroments will get much more fantastic as the story progresses. Tenebrae for example look like a classic FF setting.

They've been pretty much solely advertising the "fantasy based on reality" parts of the game so far. I'm guessing they're doing so to make getting to the more fantastical parts of the game that much more impactful.

Have anyone mentioned that the main characters in this game look like some emo band? I would be embarrased if someone caught me playing One Direction: The Game lol That Cindy character is good though. Guess I'l wait for World of Final Fantasy which looks miles better than this. Gosh I miss Nomura.

Those were largely Nomura's designs, so if they are emo bandish now, they were back then. To his credit, when he was making the game as versus, the art direct was far more cohesive, so the main characters wore black and semi casual, all the other characters did as well.

I honestly think it's moreso to appeal to a wider and more mainstream audience.

These environments are not as "frilly and flowery" as some past environments and so it can appeal to an audience who would otherwise only purchase war shooters.

Like I said though, I really hope it's in the game still and it would be nice to at least see one of those fantastical places!

With the success of so many different franchises that aren't war shooters, this really should stop being an implication...

I'm pretty sure it's more that they're showing the early regions intentionally, so as to not show the whole thing before launch. Honestly, I feel like 2-ish months out, we know less about this game story and mechanics-wise than I can recall from previous titles. Although the worldwide release is probably part of that, since we usually know everything thanks to an earlier Japanese release.

I know how much you guys love the in-game product placements. FFXV partnership with American Express in Japan revealed (don't know about the details, maybe someone can translate):

Considering Lucis' guardian statue thingys, I'm a bit concerned what this would mean for a hypothetical version of America plus the Abraham Lincoln statue set in the FFXV world. Stand aside Ultima and Omega Weapon, there's a new bonus boss in town.

i wouldn't mind if it wasnt something called american express

it kinda takes me out

Yeah, I have to admit, this is the first one of the collaborations that I find a bit strange, for the same reason. Maybe it'd be less so if it was called Amex. Had absolutly no issue with Coleman, in fact, I thought it was cool to have this unique blend. Even would've found it more consistent if the Regalia was an Audi, too, like the Kingsglaive car.

Ah, whatever, I'm just nitpicking. If it helps covering some of the dev costs, why not.

I saw a Yuffie character then I realized that she probably wont be part of your party and even if she is what can you do with her. Tag an enemy for her to AI kill. FUN.

That goes for every potential party member in the game so if they have a skill and it's at your disposal.. If you expecting something else well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Wow all I get to do with Tifa and Barret are tag enemies to attack for them to kill. FUN."

You'd have to be intentionally dense if you think that's all you can do.

Watching a meter fill up and then choosing Attack command. SO MUCH MORE FUN.

See, other people can make dumb arguments too!

I don't mind product placement so long as it's not on the level of something like the (intentionally exaggerated) product placement in the Truman Show. If people in games, movies & such use purchasable products, I'm not bothered seeing some logo in there.

But American Express makes zero sense in a world that has no America in it. -_-

Literally the most nonsensical sponsor you could have gotten. At least if it was Coke or Dominos you can argue that it just exists in Eos. American Express? Ugh.

Fantasy Based on Reality. Imagine in this world, American Express is just a random pairing of words and there is no such thing as America and problems be gone!

Also lol at complaining about the girl being possibly playable or not. They got yo ass with that Tifa example, you are legit only basically playing 1 character. Accept this and pls hush bc we don't need another thread of crying complaints

Now they can read about the events of Kingsglaive in the New York Times!

"What? It's just a random combination of words lolol"

Yeah, this product placement is pretty bad. I don't have a problem with the Coleman stuff, since you can mostly ignore it or pretend it's and ingame brand. And it is at least well implemented.
For this they apparently only slaped the logo on some wall.

Is it actually in the game like that or did they just put together the image purely to announce the partnership?

If it's the former, then yeah that's pretty crap.

It looks like a cool game, but if I didn't know this was a main entry in the Final Fantasy series, I wouldn't have guessed in a million years. I don't know how to deal with that. I like my Final Fantasy more fantastical, I think.

I'll give it a try when I get to XV, though. I've still got a quite a few numbered FFs I have to play before this one.

I expect the new demo to be the Leviathan fight. Probably just a part of it like with Titan.
Tabata said that's what he wanted to show next together with the colosseum minigame.

New demo for gamescom next month, apparently. No details yet, so not sure if just an update of the Titan demo or a new one. A small slice of the desert area would probably be way more attractive than the janky Titan battle that doesn't really showcase the battle-system's fluidity nor the open-world aspect well. Or hell, just the city area with the Iron Giant and a few monsters like in the TGS '14 videos, which we thought Platinum Demo would be originally, would be good enough.

The next official showing of the game and the last promo push before the XV releases will be a live demo of a convoluted boss fight that will crash on stage. I'm sure of it. And then Tabata will appear saying that it was a demo taken from de 2003 build of the game and that we don't have to worry about the performance because now it runs good.

There's plenty of fantastical stuff in FFXV. Even if some of the environments are a bit mundane at parts (especially these few beginning/near-beginning areas), what you can find in those environments is not. A jog through a pine forest might not be the most fantastical thing ever, but when you bump into a wild Behemoth or other beasts in that forest, that escapes the realm of realistic & mundane.

I'm not sure if Tabata has the same aim still, but Nomura wanted FFXV's world to start as something very familiar (a modern city like Insomnia) and then the amount of more fantastical stuff would increase as you progressed deeper into the game.
