Yeah, that's pretty awful. The product placement, that is.

Lots of people say this but I can't help but be worried. It's 2 months from release and they have showed very little, especially in terms of story/cutscenes and what we've seen seems very unpolished.
At a similar timeframe from release, the marketing and trailer promotion for XIII was quite different, and showed a level of completion and polish XV seems to lack, especially with cutscenes, it's very worrying.
The environment is really bad for PS4. Obviously the main character models are much better.
I'm less fine with American Express than Coleman. American Express is too specific.
If you were expecting a lot CGI cutscenes you might be disappointed. If I were to guess just the opening and the ending at the most.
JV: The Luminous Engine did a great job on the game and cutscenes. However, the Final Fantasy series is known worldwide for his cinematic sequences in CGI. Will you put them in the game?
HT: There are actually CGI cinematics in the game. I think there are, however, a little less than in previous Final Fantasy games. Rather than having too many cutscenes in the game, our desire was to make a long feature film.Kingsglaive, to us, was the best use of CGI.

Well. He said a little less so maybe thare more CGs than the opening and ending one.

The gas station looked great in Duscae and you could see the PBR doing wonders for reflections and such. I'd be disappointed if it got downgraded to what that new screenshot is showing, but for now I'll give them the benefit of doubt.
I'm fine with less, but opening and ending only would suck haha.
Yeah, I think everything looks great even if we don't get those crazy bombastic cinematics from the past. In a way we get more playable stuff that aren't relagated to cutscenes.
The older version looks a lot more reasonable, yeah.
I think the street junk in The Division would be my standard example of what well textured and physically rendered generic items can look like this generation:

Will the prince get points for using American Express and get discounts on purchases, or am I thinking of another card? haha
No no, you're mistaken. In FFXV's world of Eos, Amer was an ancient fabled kingdom of ancient magic and high technology, known for their Devil's Road/Serpent's Road teleportation system of magic and technology that allowed the ancient people of the world to travel across the planet with ease. This was called the American Express. The people of modern Eos have a great romantic vision of that ancient, mysterious time, hence a company called themselves after that technological/magical marvel. It makes sense!Huh, I knew that it was, but couldn't recognize any of those companies.

This. Stuff like The Division, or, lol, Yakuza is much smaller in scope and is limited on one area that they can polish to death.Might just be some gas station in the middle of nowhere one can pop in for 30 seconds to quickly buy a few more potions or sell some loot and then move on. Not like they can put 50000000 manhours to develop every inconsequential location in the game, what's with the scope they are seemingly going for with the game.
Wait a second... aren't you the writer?? Shouldnt you know what conversations go on in the car and the airship?...I'm actually really looking forward to hearing the party talking during car rides as you watch beautiful scenery go by. Like there should be an option for Noctis to engage in conversations during car rides or you can keep it quiet and just listen to car music. Dialogue options during car rides would be very appreciated too. I don't just wanna hear Noctis give sleepy responses all the time. ALOTTA POTENTIAL THERE.

Hmmm suspicious
Different environment and that's outside though. Division on consoles can have some weird textures and materials too in places.

Materials in the XV gas station may have gotten downgraded but I'll wait for the final game. Image quality is a drastic improvement over Episode Duscae though .

Man, is PBR no longer there? The hair doesn't look like a jagged mess anymore at least.

Game still has PBR. Quality consistency is questionable but the fan materials in the OP screen looks better than the new American Express picture.

That AMEX picture could be a screenshot from dev environment (luminous editor) or something to make a quick promo picture. It doesn't seem to have either PBR or proper lighting or post processing effects.
The next nitpick of ffxvSo, what are we seeing there? XD
I'm not a big fan of these product placements. They have gone too far with American Express.

I bet they taste like fish sticks
Regarding real-life location names in FF, thanks to Mognet's @Tornak for reminding me about this here in FFVII:
Texas sign in Midgar:

Cost del Sol is a real place in Spain, too.

That's a good point actually. Versus 13 had this, too.
British Cafe & Tea Dover
So while not being real brands, there where references to real places/countries in Final Fantasy games before.

A bit off-topic, but the Cross Suriken is a phantom weapons right?
I actually like the Coleman product placement because it instantly takes me back to my own youthful camping trips.
AmEx is indeed over the top if it's actually in game, but whatever. As long as it's truly out of the way I don't really care. If there's a quest where Noctis has to find his Los AmEx card or something, then we've crossed a bright line.
Agreed.
If its just a sticker at a random ass gas station then I dont see the big deal. Must be getting close to if everyone bugging about random products placements now haha.
A bit off-topic, but the Cross Suriken is a phantom weapons right?
EDIT: Nvm. Not sure.
A bit off-topic, but the Cross Suriken is a phantom weapons right?
Umm what? The Cross Shuriken is DEFINITELY a phantom weapon. It's listed as a royal arm in the build a lot of press outlets played for chapter 1, but that's not all.

The figure on the far left is wielding it. To me, this not only confirms the shuriken is one of the relic weapons Noctis seeks, but that the figures in the clouds (and the figures Nyx summons in Kingsglaive) are representations of Lucian kings of the past.
