Trump 'hopes' Russia will hack US government for Hillary emails.

Trump is saying everything he can to lose this election, yet people are still voting for him. Makes no sense.

Honestly I think so too. If he is it makes the state of the nation even worse because 30% of the population supports him anyway. Carlin was right as usual 'Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.'.

So you guys still think the two parties are completely separate from one another? LOL okay, I see we don't pay attention to common sense or facts.

Nope, after this cycle you don't get to say this anymore. It's blatantly obvious that the sides couldn't be more different.

I love that this is hitting the front page of BBC News.

I know this is a very childish way to look at it, but the Clinton campaign desperately needed a 'thing' to constantly bring up and smear Trump with for the next few months to counter his inevitable email rhetoric.

And all his inexplicable and seemingly accidental talk about Russia over the last few weeks has been the perfect thing.

Top that with a week's worth of stellar, very quotable speeches at the DNC and things are looking good.

If you're truly sure that what Trump did here must be a crime, you might be a tad biased to say the least. He's an arrogant dumb asshole, but that doesn't make these comments a crime for sure.

Best we can hope for is that more Americans see this quote as proof of his utter stupidity, or otherwise dislike him enough for it.
Wikipedia Article on Sedition:

Seems to me that Trump's comments could easily be interpreted as a crime.

For reference, what do you think would happen if anyone said that they "hope" a politician gets assassinated?

Do you think that this is what's actually happening here? That Trump is openly offering to conspire with Russian hackers to help them get into Hillary's emails? Or do you think that maybe Trump is just making another attempt to push from a criticism of him, this ongoing issue of ties to Russia, into one of his standard attacks on Hillary?

Like, granted this is a dumb thing to say, like most of the shit that comes out of his mouth. But it's not zomg treason #TrumpForPrison.

Communism was just a red herring.

Put it this way, if he publicly talked to a SuperPac like that, it would be an FEC violation. He just coordinated with Russian Hackers in a way that would cross the Citizen's United coordination line.

I don't know why he did that, but it really doesn't matter.

It's okay I'll let you guys continue living in your world. I just encourage everyone to think independently sometimes and not always believe what you're told.

Well, at some point you need to believe what you're being told. It's who you chose to believe that makes the difference.

Obama is a lizardman, the moon landing was a hoax by the Muslims, plan parenthood is selling baby organs, the Boston Bombing and Sandy Hook victims were all actors!! Do not listen to the media, listen to random reddit threads and facebook memes, everything else is a lie!!

How did it get to the point where the GOP of all people nominated a sympathizer/shill for a communist authoritarian?

I hope Putin came to USA for supporting Trump in this election

Trump's racist rhetoric is quite popular among the Republican base. After all, he speaks his mind and says what all of us are actually thinking.

Is this actually treasonous? No, of course not. But its a hell of a fucking thing to say. I'm not even going to say "but if Hillary", if goddamn John McCain had joked "man I hope Bin Laden keeps out of reach long enough for me to get him" in 2008 it would be a firestorm

It's not at all. It's stupid and reckless for someone in his position, but if this were treason then everyone who posts online that they wish the russians would hack democrats would be guilty of treason. It falls well under free speech, but it's completely and utterly reckless and increasingly suspicious given everything else he's said in regards to Russia.

But yeah, anyone else other than Donald would get crucified for this.

This is more akin to McCain saying "Bin Laden, do something to give me a competitive edge."

It crosses a line that even hoping for Bin Laden to remain hidden long enough for you to smoke him doesn't pass.

It's the difference between hoping for something evil, and trying to make it happen.

I think we should all listen to The Nation and lay off the Trump-Russia neo-McCarthyism.

In their zeal to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president—a goal we share—representative voices of the liberal establishment have joined with the forces of neoconservatism to engage in what can only be described as McCarthyist rhetoric. This magazine, which has a long and proud history of standing up to the
worst excesses of McCarthyism, repudiates this unwelcome echo of the past. Let us recall that McCarthyism impugned the loyalty of American citizens by accusing them of allegiance to the Soviet Union. This political defamation—often a joint undertaking of Congress and the media—suppressed democratic debate over alternative policies and ideas, and in the process destroyed lives by stigmatizing those whose views were deemed insufficiently loyal to Cold War–era orthodoxies. The overall effect was to poison, chill, and censor the political discourse of the nation.

I remember being upset about the free media and publicity Trump has gotten in US media.

But now I realise the best thing one can do is the same they did to Palin: ask some fairly softball gotcha questions because these people are literally too stupid to know when it'd be better to shut their mouth.

I don't think it's treason. I do think it skirts close enough to incitement to not be considered protected speech.

I don't know if there's a precedent to charge him.

I could instantly tell that there are a lot of independent thinkers here by the sheer variety of opinions being discussed.

Right. You are going to go far here by calling it hivemind, groupthink, echo chamber, etc.

People don't agree with me, they aren't thinking for themselves.

See now he got banned, this just proves that he was right. That is how that line of thinking works.

This is, at worst, a flippant comment and a lazy redirection of the conversation onto Hillary.

There are bigger fish to fry.

It's this kind of talk that makes discourse slip further and further into the cesspool. Every time he pushes the barrier for acceptable behavior in politics we just say "there's bigger things to focus on" and keep going further.

I feel like you're going to have a very tough sell to convince a judge that one person - even a presidential candidate - is likely to incite a powerful foreign government to commit a crime by comments during a press conference.

You seem to be under the impression that posting Facebook memes is some how being an independent thinker, and allows you to be condescending.

Which is why I question if you just learned about not trusting everything you're told. It seems like new information to you, just like that meme. Are you young?

All you have to offer is no facts on a fbi cover up, and a baseless feeling. Educate everyone about what you know. I want to see the word through your monocle.

this comment embodies everything that is wrong with Trump. even in best case scenario either he is an idiot or he would say anything to get elected

Flippant remarks about major national security issues are completely unacceptable from a Presidential candidate, especially when he actually means it.

Give me a break. Trump is not some Hollywood writer getting blackballed. He is running for President of the fucking United States of America. There have been MULTIPLE comments from him and his party which raise questions about his associations, and he's the only Presidential Nominee since Nixon who has not release their tax returns.

Let's not pretend this is unjust or unwarranted criticism he's facing.

I hate this type of shit. Just because someone doesn't think like you doesn't mean they are dumb and or just believe what they are told. Such a lame thing to say.

I have some friends who come at me with the "just think independently" type of stuff.

They're often the type who are completely, fervently persuaded to believe in a conspiracy theory by a single, unattributed youtube video.

That's actually the funny thing.

If it happens, there will always be that air of impropriety attached.

It may mean nothing in a court of law, but the court of public opinion?

And here I thought people were sick of being so "PC"

If it came from some talking head on a 24 hour news channel maybe, this man is the Republican nominee for President of the United States.

And his "flippant" remarks are in support of a foreign intelligence service that is accused of hacking the DNC to get dirt on his rival.

Not even slightly joking when I say that these kinds of comments should disqualify a candidate for such high office.

according to 18 US Code § 2384 qualifies for Seditious conspiracy.

"If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to...or by force to seize, take, or posses any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall be each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both."

Bro...

Come on.

Come.

On.

And you don't even read the definition because it's two or more persons under US Jurisdiction.

Trump is shit but give me a break.

It's difficult to say this is small potatoes when basically any Republican worth his salt is running for the hills from this kind of rhetoric. Pence and Ryan both put out comments IMMEDIATELY rebuffing the idea that Russian involvement should somehow be okay, rather one called Putin a thug and the other called for serious consequences for Russian hacks if found true.

Come on fam.

Sure. If another hack were to take place targeting Hillary or the Democrats (or any further actions that may be calculated to influence the race), people will go back to this comment and hammer Trump for it even more.

No. This may be the future president of the United States. This is not "one person". He could have excecutive decision power within the next 6 months.
