Overwatch has developed quite a fan art following....

that terrible smiley makes me angry.

Junker D.Va is terrible (from the scrap-themed MEKA, to the outfit, to the short hair), so I'm going to disagree and say they chose rightly.

Between the short hair and the goggles, Tracer pretty much has that look covered.

EDIT: Answering more diplomatically, I simply never cared for that alt or her other Legendary options, whereas her original design was a key factor that led me to develop an interest in the game in the first place (normally, I never bother with multiplayer-only shooters at all). Deciding to essentially say "NO U" instead of disagreeing and leaving it at that was counterproductive on my part.

But DAT BOI Lúcio skin is awesome!

Fandom went too deep that a non-canon ship became taboo. That's a first (for me at least).

The funny thing is that it isn't even really incest.

Apologies in advance for bringing the "downer" angle, but that ship is uniquely disturbing for the same reasons that the Batman and Batgirl ship involve: two characters in an authority figure/dependent relationship hooking up. Be it father/daughter, adoptive father/adoptive daughter, police officer/arrestee, judge/defendant, teacher/student, doctor/patient... that's a fucked up dynamic that strays closer to rape than it does to a consenting relationship between two informed adults.

Which is really what the problem with that ship (and ones like it) is. It's a celebration and normalization of truly fucked up relational dynamics, not between equals but between dependents and authorities. No. Just no.

I'm pretty sure that D.Va and Soldier don't even know each other. Soldier is a vigilante out on the hunt for the people responsible for the fall of the first overwatch and dva as far as I know is just a drafted member of Korea's special mech unit. So they are not part of any mutual organization and the story doesn't have them interacting in anyway. As far as canon is concerned, it's possible they've never met.

The only real squicky thing here is that she's 19 and he's over 60.

That the canon doesn't put them together really goes without saying.

I disagree with the bolded insofar that age is the problem. Two consenting adults want to bang, despite a big age gap? Okay, cool.

That's not what makes that ship disturbing, though. It's all about a headcanon shrinking Dva into a kid body and making 76 her adoptive dad that diddles her on the sly. That's fucked up.

You're presuming that fan artists create a paternal relationship in their minds and then proceed to make it romantic/sexual. It could be that they just saw these two characters and went "hey, it'd be hot if they banged" like any other pairing.

And while 19 is legally an adult, most 19 year olds haven't adapted to being an adult fully at that point. We say the age of 18 is the official age of adulthood, but that's only because we have to draw the line somewhere and that's as good a place as any. But in most cases, a 19 year old is going to still be mostly immature. It's perfectly legal for them to bang, but any 60 year old hanging out with kids fresh out of high school is someone I'd give the stink eye to, legality or not.

I'm talking about kid-sized Dva sultrily whispering into 76's ear, "Daddyyyyyyy" as he gets all hot and bothered? That's the sort of stuff I take issue with. Scroll back and find that example. I presume nothing.

You want to draw kid DVa as team bab with 76 as team dad? Okay, whatever. That's cute. That's innocuous.

I agree with you, but that ties back into the "relationships between inequals is not okay" point. Age in and of itself is not the issue. Skewed relationship dynamics are.

That's a panel of a comic that is more about making that as a joke though, as creepy as it looks.

I just find it funny how fanon has taken over the canon really.

As someone who can't stand shipping, I can totally be on board with Dva and 76.

Not because I actually want to pair them but because it's going to create a divide in fandom. People are going to be uncomfortable with the incest that doesn't actually exist and that is absolutely hilarious.
It's also going to bring a lot of people together.
