[SPOILER THREAD] Suicide Squad

That was another problem I had: the Suicide Squad is supposed to be thrown into politically sensitive incidents and they're main purpose is that they can be denied as having anything to do with the US. They're well known bad guys and they bring chaos and destruction. And yet they have a military escort.

I understand that with the way the story went, it wasn't much of an issue, but then the story shouldn't have went that way.
This makes me wonder, what is a movie that pulls off a similar premise?

First one that came to my mind was Inglourious Basterds.

The dude's asking, "but why?" for every head scratcher is kinda silly at this point. You know why. The movie fucking sucks and is a total mess, that's "why". You aren't going to have an "ah-ha!" moment with any explanation, so probably best not to be disingenuous with your bewilderment.

Obviously most folks are fine filling in for the logical holes in this swiss cheese of filmmaking, since they're being entertained enough to do so.

The flashes are really annoying seeing as they shot an entire scene here, I really hope make it into an extended cut

The "But why did Katana go into the bar"? is easily explained. Don't see how much filling needs to be done on that one, to be honest. I mean, my kids figured it out in the moment. But keep beating that horse if you like.

I still maintain that by making Waller a clear antagonist, we don't really need a "would the Task Force X Program come into fruition/last?" sub-plot.

They made an origin story, but there's no compelling reason for the squad to be formed, no pressing need. If they already had the squad up and running at that point, I'd be fine with that.

I'm drawing a blank.

Shit, you're right. I know why. But I'll be disingenuous if I want.

Fair enough lol.

With the little that we know of her character, she really wouldn't associate with criminals. I can see her abandoning Flagg, but going with the criminals is out of character given what we know.

Fair enough lol.
Lol. I gotta get my entertainment out of this movie somehow.

I hope we get to see Leto's Joker, placed within the context of a well written, better directed film. He feels short changed here.

I didn't have a problem with Leto as the Joker, but this Joker wasn't that memorable except that he wanted Common to cuckold him.

The only thing I didn't really care for from Leto's Joker was his low, growly speech pattern in the helicopter before Harley falls out. Other than that, I thought he was fine and want to see more of him.

Kind of disappointed we're getting more of a gangster Joker than a clown prince Joker, but we'll see.

I thought that he would kill common either way, either common would reject Harley like he did offending the Joker, or he'd try to kiss her and he'd get killed. Joker planned to kill him regardless.

That was my impression too, but the editing and pacing was pretty poor in that scene. Took what could've been a good scene and made it have zero impact

Yeah perhaps when you sit back and think about it, but damn was it sloppy.

Harley texting joker. It shows the helicopter and someone holding a computer *bomb disabled*. Harley runs to the helicopter. Joker appears at the back of the copter, laughing and guns blazing.

THAT should of been the film's introduction to the joker.

The film should of started with a different group with boomerang, and everyone but boomerang gets slaughtered. Waller watches on from the fleeing helicopter and says, 'who else do we have?'

Common calling Harley a bitch is what did him in. The silly snapchat filter happened then.

If looking at it from the "politically sensitive mission with plausible deniability" angle, then wouldn't most spy-flick like Mission: Impossible counts?

If you're looking specifically for the premise of "convicts gathered to do a suicide mission," then The Dirty Dozen, of course.

This is a nothing nothing movie. Besides the relationship between Rick Flag and his boss Waller, I didn't enjoy any of the relationship in the movie. Quinn is straight up stripper girlfriend of Joker. I bet they rewrote the ending to make her more important.

Such a fucking bad movie. I was going to call it a long video game stage from a Ubi game. But Ubi games actually have better pacing and writing. They are missing so many established shots of most of the scenes. I felt like I miss 3 minute background somewhere in every scene, ALL THE TIME.

I don't even want to waste time talk about the movie. There are no payoff to most of the plot shit. Like that Captain Boom Brony plushy. There is no payoff, he just lose it. The movie is a nothing garbage.

Also the hot topic songs are so distracting. I think its worse than a 3 movie. I give it a 2/10.

It was pretty underwhelming I checked my watch many times during the movie. The only interesting thing for me was Harley Quinn. Her actress really nailed it. A Joker/Harley Quinn movie would have been better than this. I was kind of surprised Waller survived and didn't get punished for all the stuff she did.

It is so obvious that the studio must have shit themselves after seeing a rough cut of the movie because the opening is very strong. It's dark, gritty, adult-themed, feels like a "hard" Arkham Asylum-style intro to the rogues gallery and then midway through it becomes a fucking trite team-building buddy movie about family. Ugh this movie got so many of the ingredients right early and then careens off the rails ending in disaster

I paid $5.50 for the movie. That's $6 too much.

I thought the exposition in GOTG was bad but then we get the first half hour of this movie where Amanda Waller is providing commentary to what's happening on screen.

Joker had less screen time than Captain Phasma.

There was no narrative structure at all in the movie.

The action sequences felt like those barriered areas in God of War where you fight some grunts, then move to the next barriered area.

From a narrative perspective, what was the point of Batman performing a mouth resuscitation of Harley followed by choking her?

Why was Enchantress belly dancing.

Some of that dialogue towards the end belongs either in a Xena episode or the cringe thread on GAF.

Other than Harley/Deadshot, did any of the other skwad members have a conversation outside the bar scene?

They even used Spirit in the Sky.

A Joker/Harley Quinn movie would have been better than this.

That was my takeaway as well. I think it's far from the terrible movie critics think it is, but it's certainly a sequence of hits and misses that add up to an only okay performance. And the hits are basically just Joker, Harley, Waller, and Boomerang who I found consistently funny despite being a complete one-note. The rest of the movie was just all around meh. Except Enchantress, holy attack of the clones, Batman, that was bad acting!

I mean even if the pentagon formed the SS as a deterrent to a new and Superman or other evil metahumans none of the team members are really super-powered anyway so it just seems like a very flimsy justification for the team. I kept waiting for the movie to reveal the true reason for forming the team but it never came.

So I just got home from watching this. It def had some issues, but I didn't think it was as bad as it was made out to be.

I liked Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Don't have a complete opinion yet on Leto as Joker.

I thought the transition from these are bad guys to they are saving the world was abrupt as hell haha.

I think too much time was used in the introduction of all the baddies instead of story building the movie.

I would give it 6-6.5 out of 10.

As I saw it with Bulgarian subtitles, I had no idea what was going on when Enchantress got free and created Incubus. She couldn't get near the heart that Waller had, but she went into a different room and infected a guy who became Incubus in the subway, but then June is sent to the subway, what the fuck happens? I thought Waller could control her with the heart, but she still managed to join forces with Incubus?

Can someone explain what the fuck was said during the subtitled parts?

Nothing was said, it was just a really poorly paced and edited scene. Walker tried to stab the shit out of her heart but Incubus healed her with his power and kept doing so to keep her alive.

Movie is terrible with only the first 30 minutes of it being serviceable. Pacing was all over the place, had lots of flat jokes and cringe worthy dialogue padded throughout and the action sequences were boring as fuck. Will Smith, Viola Davis and Jared Leto (even though I dislike his joker) were the only good things in this shitfest.

Here's some of my favorite awful scenes

Slipknot's death which is ironically the funniest part of the movie

the entire bar scene

Diablo "I aint gonna lose a second family!" lol please you all just barely met

the finishing blow to enchantress with the never ending slow motion

4/10
so glad t-mobile paid for my ticket

Man this wasn't good :( I was really in this movie's corner too.

Worst thing it had going for it was that it had David Harbour cast as some random government lackey and I couldn't stop thinking about how much better written and produced Stranger Things was the whole time.

I will say this, I wish I had been trying to watch it as a "so bad it's good" movie, I bet it would be fairly fun. I went in with a critical eye and man is it disappointing.

The biggest sin is probably how the characters of Harley Quinn and the Joker are treated, even if I didn't actually dislike either performance by the actors.

The extended version will fix everything I think, they'll probably add more colored overlays and stuff. Hopefully they'll add more random songs too, I didn't like the final fight, but I'd dig it if they played Vertigo by U2 over it.

I just saw it. Overall, I thought the plot was a mess, the pacing was bad but other than that, I genuinely enjoyed it. It's not a great movie, and I'm not gonna shit on people for disliking it, but personally I liked it a lot.

The positives are pretty much all character related. I liked near everyone. I'm surprised how much I ended up liking a near nobody like El Diablo, and I had to laugh at how the editing of the movie makes Slipknot have like not even ten minutes in the film. Harley was awesome, and Deadshot was great and Will Smith did a good job.

Amanda Waller was the best character, she was awesome start to finish. When she shot all the people in that room, I thought 'yep, that's Waller'. She'll do the right thing in all the wrong ways. Batman's cameos were great, loved Waller implying she knows just what he does. Liked the brief Robin mention in Harley's introduction screen.

Joker was...eh. The way some people complaining over his lack of screen-time I thought he'd have like three minutes worth but he was in it more than I expected. Still not a lot and boy a lot of stuff from the trailers is gone. Can't fault Leto for supposedly being pissed over it. But he brought my main issue with the movie.

My biggest fear of the movie was that they'd turn the Joker/Harley relationship into the opposite of what it was. And they did. The Joker is pretty much just straight-up in love with her and does nothing to be a dickhead. He manipulates her which is good, solid with the usual origin but then he's all 'oh great I really care about her' when he presumably got her to jump into the vat just to get her killed. I heard they cut a scene where he hits her and man, that should have been in the film. That kills the character more than the whole gangster stuff.

Once again, movie's plot and pacing is a mess but I liked the characters enough to enjoy it.

Why did Deadshot tell his daughter that she had to solve for the angle between the building and the sidewalk? Isn't that just 90 degrees unless you're dealing with some kind of slanted building?

lol, to find the hypotenuse of a triangle formed by the building and someone down some distance away on the sidewalk, the angle will depend on where your target is and how high up the building you are.

It's true that Will Smith, Viola Davis and Margot Robbie pretty much saved it from being a high-budget B-movie.
