[SPOILER THREAD] Suicide Squad

love how he has to kinda hop in place to say the whole line before sprinting into action.

I mean cause it's important.

Lol. The final fight was literally War Gods.

I will say, that when the Enchantress fought the squad in that smoke, it looked great. You can barely see the details of the characters in their silhouettes. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. If the action was better and I cared about the characters, that would've been a great moment. But since it wasn't, it just screamed wasted potential to me.

And Boomerang leaves and comes back for no reason, just like a boomerang.

There's a huge problem here just from a basic script level and I just learned that Ayer wrote it too... I mean what the hell, man?

The notion that the basic conflict from the get-go is Suicide Squad vs. Enchantress is so mindblowingly strange and bad that I can't believe it made it out of the first draft. Why would you put these guys up against a supernatural threat? They should just be on clandestine ops and the kind of thing where making someone afraid of the United States of America would be a good idea, like "having a human Crocodile show up in your hood"-type afraid.

But these chumps don't mix well with crazy lightning in the sky, monster-tentacle tier threats. Deadshot, El Diablo and MAYBE Katana and Killer Croc are the only ones that I can even imagine doing more than a couple of seconds' worth of good against these villains, and in the climax of the movie it's actually a fucking bomb supplied by Rick Flag that gets the job done? Like, standard military-grade pack of charges a single person could bring with them? Seems like tasking a couple strike fighter planes to shoot a dozen Sidewinders at Enchantress would have been much simpler and more effective than all of this. Waller can call in all the favors needed to put this criminal team together with their own military atache including helicopters, but can't get that done instead? And the very suggestion of Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang or didn't-even-deserve-a-title-card Slipknot somehow contributing in this fight is laughable. On a team like this, Harley Quinn is your chaotic, unpredictable distraction. She makes things go boom and captivates your mark while the rest of the team advances the plan. You don't put her in a goddamn knife fight against a teleporting witch.

At the scale of events depicted, these characters would get completely obliterated. It's a relatively B-tier villain against even B-er and C or lower-tier villains and the internal logic at play is barely making an effort. There's an actual Apocalypse-style montage of like entire buildings and communications networks and aircraft carriers all over the world being blown up by Enchantress with huge amounts of energy.

At this level shouldn't um, Batman and the Flash be kind of concerned? This isn't even like the standard complaint of "well they're in the same universe, why don't The Avengers/whoever just show up," both characters literally appear in this movie demonstrating that they're out and about doing anti-crime things in this universe.

If they got to Enchantress and like Flash had already been there and resolved the problem and had a trap set for the rest of them I would have applauded in theater.

I thought it was strange to essentially open the DC movie universe with the two Snyder superman movies and suicide squad. But the risky nature and semifailure of the squad opens the way for Waller and Argus welcoming the idea of the Justice League.

Now that it's out and we know it's not in, what was the story behind the Joker Batsuit at SDCC?

Wonder if originally when Joker shows up during the Enchantress confrontation, it had to do with his vision.

I was too busy trying to figure out why she was fighting them in hand to hand combat

she's fucking magic

cast a spell

and then they did the whole fight and she just magic'd their weapons away from them at the end anyway

Don't get me wrong, while I think it would've looked great, I was thinking the same thing, too. How was it even a fight? The witch could teleport them away and then fight them. The villain was too powerful for the group, but in the end, she gets stopped by a bomb. Everything about the ending was just a mess.

I enjoyed it. Highlights were El Diablo, Deadshot, Ropeguy dying(rip), Waller, Harley, Croc with a shirt on and magic.

Lowlights were shirtless Croc, the actor playing Rick Flag, and uh... some of the dialogue fell flat but other than that I can't think of many.

Didn't like or hate Leto's Joker. There's something there but he needs to be the main bad guy in a movie. Doesn't work as a subplot.

I don't get the hate for it but whatever.

I think she wanted to kill them up close in revenge for her bro.

And why were they shooting off flares? Were those drones using missiles?

Right?! I was about to say the same. They were like preemptively shooting off flares, but we didn't even know if they were being locked-on by rockets or anything. I don't remember how they were shot down, was it a missile or weird magic stuff? If it was a missile, they sure blew their wad with the flare spam.

I legit fucking thought that she was shooting down the building the Squad were on

BETRAYAL AGAIN

When she got on the helicopter and told them to wait for the next one, I was anticipating her to call a bombing run on the city as she flew out or something.

So Amanda Waller created a superteam that created its own villain, used up millions in resources along with a half dozen normal soldiers to save herself and fail at killing the Joker, had her noggin siphoned putting nationally security at risk, killed half of her own black site team to keep them quiet, and now has to spend thousands on trinkets and favors for the team members that survived.

Has any movie character failed so spectacularly in their first* outing?

*Fuck you, Angela Basset in Green Lantern.

What they should've done is have her start to call for it, then get bopped by Incubus

I mean, Waller's whole deal is basically being a fucking asshole karma houdini

Why does Wallers copter fly down to street level instead of staying up in the sky? You know, aside from so she can be captured....

I found it strange, but thinking about it

Probably didn't want to get shot down. We already saw the goons shoot down the Squad's copter. Waller shot down the Joker's... probably didn't want to risk it.

And assumed flare was to cover their exit.

Croc's kind of weak in this movie, at least compared to standard Killer Croc. His skin isn't shown to be durable, he got injected with the explosion easily and was tazed a few times. He survived, so maybe they'll do it like the Arkham Series where his condition worsens over time.

Kind of standard Waller tbh. In the end she might win, but the damage to get there is huge and long-lasting.

This Movie was Hot Garbage. Bottom third of all Comic Book movies.

BvS was better and I hate that fucking movie.

Ill watch Green Lantern, Ghost Rider before this shit again.

Croc always starts off like a normal Croc dude.

I thought the movie was alright, not nearly as bad as people were making it out to be.

I left it mostly excited at the prospect of Affleck and Joker going at it in the future , thats going to be freaking awesome. Hopefully they put those cut out Joker scenes in the blu ray.

Did the soldiers in the water during the final fight kill themselves to detonate that bomb? Like, they couldn't set it up to detonate a few seconds after they'd gotten away?

I know he isn't always some ten foot inhuman monster, I'm just saying it's a little surprising. Then again, apparently they were meant to have Killer Shark but they didn't want an All-CGI character so his size made it easier to film with (very good) practical make-up.

Just got back, didn't hate it, but it seriously had issues.

Firstly, I think the opening doesn't entirely work. The opening two scenes with Deadshot and Harley feel weird given that they're later given proper introductions. Honestly, I would have rather just had the movie start with Waller arriving at the restaurant and laying out the members.

They also should have given Katana and Slipknot proper introductions, like with the title cards and everything. Slipknot should have died after the first firefight so the audience got some connection with him. My wife literally forgot the character existed when I brought him up.

The Joker should not have been in the movie. What does Harley's escape really accomplish? Ok, you get a moment where you see Deadshot has loyalty to her, the helicopter gets shot down, and then... like nothing happens. Harley hooks back up with the group, all is forgiven, the movie moves on.

I see there's plenty of discussion about the villain being all wrong. As with many here, I kept wondering what the Squad brought to the proceedings that the marines didn't. The only one who really had a reason for being there was Diablo, who I will admit I was pleasantly surprised actually got a character arc and depth. Although I will say that I had him and Slipknot pegged as the ones to die.

The ending also felt really random. It felt like a Marvel post-credits stinger moved to the end of the film because DC doesn't do that shit.

DC keeps tripping over their own feet. There's germs of interesting stuff in their films, but they manage to fuck them up every time. Here's to hoping for their next bite at the apple...

Yep. The plan was to get away, but there was no chance during the fight. They were the real Suicide Squad when you think about it.
Why did Captain Boomerang come back?
Boomerangs always come back.
Sadly deleted scene.

The movie has a post credits scene lol

The Slipknot thing kind of seemed intentional. He's literally the guy to demonstrate you don't fuck with the injection they got and nothing more. It would have been almost comical if they tried to develop him as something special when near everyone knew he's the guy who would die ten minutes into the mission.

I agree with Katana though. I felt like Waller during the dinner scene could have easily worked in something with Katana as her being the guard for Flagg because she's technically on the mission herself instead of it casually being dropped in when she first appears when the team is assembling with that brief flashback of her killing dudes.

Oh, whoops. What was it?
Bruce Wayne getting files on Barry Allen and Arthur Curry from Amanda Waller while having dinner with her by making sure that she wouldn't face backlash for the Enchantress fall out, implying he and his "friends" could stop what she's doing with the squad or something and her implying she knows he's Batman.

I thought it was better than almost all of the DC movies since Keaton Batman. The exception being Dark Knight.

Doesn't he already have all the info on them? Isn't that like a major plot point of Batman v Superman?

Ugh, whatever.

I mean, I thought the emails meant proving there were others out there with special abilities. It's not like a video of Aquaman swimming underwater gives Batman the automatic ins and out of how he exists. Bruce even says at the end of the film that he has to find them to Diana and wants her help with that.

Just got back from watching it. Man, it was kind of a mess, but I did enjoy it. Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn were the best part of the movie for me. The actress who played a Amanda Waller pretty much did a perfect Amanda Waller.

The weakest part of the movie had to be the Joker. I was so looking forward to seeing Jared Leto's take on the Joker from the get go. His dialogue was just terrible. I get he was going for the insane crazy Joker, but it just felt like he was trying too hard.

The movie definitely could've done with a lot less Joker. Harley and Deadshot were great! I wish they would've utilized Diablo better in the film. He was easily most underappreciated.
