Redeeming the pre-order ship during a certain part of the tutorial means you never get the means to build hyperdrives, an ability you need if you ever want to buy or switch into a new ship. If you do get a new ship without the ability to build hyperdrives, you're stranded in your star system.

So basically I have to start again?

What kind of monster are you?!

I've been using the digital preorder ship and have not run into this "bug" if you even want to call it that. I think its more of a misunderstanding of the game flow/systems.

I got the blueprints for a hyperdrive even while already having one. I can make anti-matter, warp modules etc.

Yes, me too. Could it be that we lucked out, maybe? I did basically stumble into the NPC with the hyperdrive blueprint.

Then what's going on with that? Am I misunderstanding something?

Well I can't say for sure what happened for you, I wasn't there. Maybe its the point at which you grabbed it, maybe it was random luck for you (people have pointed out that the hyperdrive blueprint is in the random rotation so for some they just got it by luck of the draw), maybe it has to do with the Atlas (I said yes for what thats worth) or maybe it just doesn't happen 100% of the time. It's a flawed train of thought however to say "well this thing didn't happen to me, therefore it doesn't happen. Other people must not know what they are doing".

For me - I repaired my ship, went up to the station and immediately got the bonus ship. I messed around mining for a bit, then went to a second system. Here I spent a lot of time exploring and earning units. I saved up and bought a 2M unit ship, and didn't give it a second thought that it didn't have a hyperdrive on it. I assumed I could make one, or that it would transfer over. It didn't and I can't. I didn't get any kind of a quest pop up. I then spent around 10hrs exploring this system, found dozens of tech blueprints, but no hyperdrive (I did however find all the BPs required to make warp cells).

At this point I started questioning what the hell was going on - I'm now 15hrs in and can't leave my second system. I had no idea there was a bug, or that other people got their hyperdrives in 30-45min via a quest. I found all this out killing time at work a few hours ago, at which point I realized "Oh crap, I may be screwed here..". I have no quest, I have no blueprint, I have no hyper drive, and no ships that I can buy have one either. I'm going to be in my second solar system until they fix the quest, I randomly roll it as my drop from a factory, or I quit and restart. I'm not planning on restarting yet.

Found a neat little glitch. If you stop your laser completely right when it's about to overheat (wait until the laser is completely gone), then restart it, it will completely reset the bar. Super useful for bigger deposits.

It resets the bar all the way to the beginning if you let go of the trigger for half a second and then press it again regardless of where the bar is at

The problem is you can't move an upgrade after you've built it.
But on multitools you can just dismantle it and rebuild it. You don't lose anything.

You can even do this with basic components like the scanner, to move your schematic around.

Ship inventories take a bit more planning.

Do they grey out if not? What does it look like when not place next to one another?
Yeah- Look at the upgrade in the bottom left corner
that sound you hear is my starter 7 slot multi tool weeping.
WHOMP WHOMP

It's a great feeling when you find an awesome Multi-tool and buy that shit :P

I think it's intended.
It's pretty indefensible that Hello doesn't explain how their system works, or really that there's no manual at all. I see icons that I have no idea what they mean.

But it is defensible. Sean literally said that he thought it was bold not to give too much guidance. Minecraft did it. Starbound did it. It's fun and gives a sense of mystery and wonder.

YMMV I guess.

It absolutely breaks my heart to see a game like this be torn apart by people.I've played for about 10 hours, and already consider it one of the most special experiences I've had as a gamer. It's a beautiful game. I hope the hardworking people at Hello Games aren't taking anything too personally, because they deserve better than this. Gamers really are the shittiest people, and it sometimes makes me ashamed to identify as one.
People not liking something as much as you should not effect you anywhere near enough to be ashamed of calling yourself a gamer. It's the internet, it's where people go to complain.

That's like the same thing he said exactly, hahaha

Also, if that wasn't common knowledge yet some of this other stuff might not be, so I'm gonna link to my tips again real quick and add the basic element list

Ahhh, it all becomes more clear now. Got it.

I'm going to miss your dope screenshots.

EDIT: You haven't posted much in the 2016 screenshot thread.

I'm kinda saving them up :D

I'm also working on a review for the game, so most of the time has been spent with my Wife and I playing it. She LOVES it, and she usually doesn't play console games. Mostly mobile.

Alright so my galactic map has a way point to an Atlas Interface destination but that isn't on the path to the core.

Do I go there or continue to the core?

My guess is go to the Atlas Interface destination? I'm hoping this is how you get the Atlas pass?

Indeed. Isn't this basically how Dark Souls works?

I understand why some find it frustrating but I'm pretty sure it's intentional

Hmmm I'm struggling to find the warp cell needed for the hyper drive.

Currently just bouncing planets and moons in my first solar system and exploring.
Crazy what HG have achieved here though, game is good so far.

Edit nvm I'm dumb had to craft lol

Mother fucker....so I have to dismantle/toss all my upgrades and then rebuild them so they are touching?

No one has the inventory slots for that!

How Hello Games doesn't allow you to move them is dumb.

I actually like the slot management that way now that I think about it. It plays a HUGE role in your decision making for buying guns and ships.

You have to craft the warp cell. Starting with Suspension Liquid. Have you been given the recipe for it?

It isn't. It depends when you redeem the ship. If you get the blueprints everything is fine. I could craft antimatter, suspenion fluid and warp cells on my previous game, but not the drive itself.

If you don't get it, ships for sale won't have hyperdrives either. Some have suggested that switching to a crashed ship can cause the beacon for the recipe to appear.

In my game, what I noticed, is that before I used the hyperdrive I could not find a ship to buy that had one pre-installed. After using it and jumping to another system, nearly every ship for sale I encountered had a hyperdrive.

Maybe you can find crashed ships on planets that have that kind of technology? I've stumbled upon two ships so far and I've traded my starter for one of those. Still in my first system though.

The upgrades don't take rare resources to create. I've dismantled and re-created mine a few times now on a few different multi-tools. NBD, IMO.

Barring the ridiculous nature of people going too far and sending death threats, I sincerely hope you aren't talking about mild differing opinions and valid criticisms.

I am actually starting to like it. Makes it feel legit 'old school' on how games were way back before the CD generation and the like. Especially on C64/Amiga/PC.

You built communities around self discoveries... dug for answers, etc..

I do not want every game to do this, but it is so fitting for the sense of 'discovery' this game is trying to convey.

You didn't respond to the guy who said he's noticing upgrades still taking effect even if not connected.

How significant are the bonuses for having them connected?

I'm enjoying it, but I actually enjoy going through space rather than exploring planets so far. Ground exploration does get monotonous for me after a while. As I thought it would.

Maybe you can find crashed ships on planets that have that kind of technology? I've stumbled upon two ships so far and I've traded my starter for one of those. Still in my first system though.

I've found 3-4 so far, and gotten something from all of them but no hyperdrive and no BP.

I'm guessing that just like factories they are in a random pool for what you get. Will keep trying though for sure. I love this game despite the issues I'm having. It's amazing.

I would post a picture but I can't right now, you can look at the edge of the bar on the right, the darker color in the end is the bonus.

At least that's what I think it is.

Can anyone provide some some guidance to this question I asked earlier? I'm afraid to continue if I did indeed trigger this bug... Thanks!

So I just started last night and am still wandering around my crash site having fun exploring a nearby cave system.

As soon as I started, I did redeem all of my bonuses from the limited edition codes, including the new fancy ship.

I've seen a few comments talking about some sort of bug when redeeming this ship?

Will I for sure encounter this bug? I've only been playing for an hour, so should I just restart? Sad if I do, as I think my starting planet is fascinating to explore.

Thanks,

Nicko

It's partly because quite a few people haven't played it.

But it's also because this is a really quirky, original, niche game. If you like it you'll absolutely love it. If you don't it'll leave you cold.

Personally it's my game of the generation. I really don't care what anyone else thinks.

Yea this game is just not for everyone.

As for me, I believe I've spent about 90% of my time in this game with a massive smile on my face, sometimes without even realizing it.

Alright so my galactic map has a way point to an Atlas Interface destination but that isn't on the path to the core.

Do I go there or continue to the core?

My guess is go to the Atlas Interface destination? I'm hoping this is how you get the Atlas pass?

If anyone has an idea about this let me know.

Also is there a solar system map for the new systems you visit to see where all the planets and moons are?

Why does it say "You Have Lost Connection to online Services" at the bottom on PS4? All last night too
Guess the servers getting hammered again? Europeans getting the game today...

I lucked out this afternoon, I managed to connect finally after all.day yesterday with half circle attempting to connect unsuccessfully.

Can anyone provide some some guidance to this question I asked earlier? I'm afraid to continue if I did indeed trigger this bug... Thanks!

It doesn't seem to be a 100% of the time kind of issue. Have you gotten a quest that leads to the hyperdrive blueprint? People say you get that if you follow the quest steps for 30-45min. If you get the blueprint you are good to go from that point on, if you don't have the blueprint it might be worth restarting and not claiming the ship til you have it.

Yeah I dont know wtf is wrong with people. Bitching about shit.. missing features blabla. If they could play this they would realize this game is an amazing experience. Nothing like any other game Ive played really.

Yeah, other's opinions differing from mine really upset me as well.

I played NMS and found the gameplay to to be ridiculously paper-thin, the franken-fauna to be absurd, the spacefaring to be a borefest, the planet exploration rinse and repeat cycle to be monotonous, the survival/crafting aspect simply a nuisance and seemingly a tacked on feature, and the visuals to be incredibly lackluster which led to the sum of its parts being a rather janky experience overall.

That being said, a lot of folks seem to be enjoying it, good for them.

I've got a distress call beacon in open space and dont know how to interact with it when I fly up to it.

You don't interact with it. The ship with the distress beacon is being attacked. Look on the map in your cockpit to find the people attacking and take 'em out. I did one of these space battles last night and there were quite a few ships to fight. If the enemies aren't there yet, just wait around and they'll warp in.

Alright so my galactic map has a way point to an Atlas Interface destination but that isn't on the path to the core.

Do I go there or continue to the core?

My guess is go to the Atlas Interface destination? I'm hoping this is how you get the Atlas pass?

Go to the Atlas Station. Not only is it the start of one of the ways to get an Atlas Pass, but it'll also lead you to the core via a different route.

The game being so open ended means there are millions of routes to the core, so if you see something interesting, even if it seems counter-intuitive, go and check it out. Your map should update the waypoint to reflect your current place in the galaxy.
