Interviews had SM saying that things like that dinosaur would be one-in-a-million encounters.
Isn't that convenient?
I think more developers will learn from this experience and will market their games better in the future.

Why would you conclude "this thing is not in the game" based simply on not having seen it? Interviews had SM saying that things like that dinosaur would be one-in-a-million encounters.
Isn't this thread worthy? Seems like a pretty big lie if the creatures like the ones featured in the trailers + interviews are not in the game.
I'm just thinking if this was an EA/Ubi/Activision/WB game the review thread with no reviews would not be 70 pages
As rare as finding another player perhaps?in regards to the large creatures, according to Sean a few days ago they are in the game but he hasn't seen a streamer find one yet. They're very rare:
In this case he hasn't been vague (a trademark of his) but outright stated they are in the game.

What is it about NMS that suddenly makes people want to create all these "we've been lied to" threads?
Probably not, no. Not unless we get some concrete info from like, a datamine or something that indicates that those kinds of creatures are impossible. For all we know, they really are just (poorly, imo) designed to be impossibly rare.
This impressions thread, the MP thread, and the OT are prooobably enough for now.
So rare that not one player has seen a single one of these species? Call me a skeptic, but if they don't start popping up within a week, they are not in the game. Also, that would be idiotic. Make the coolest species 1/ 1 Billion spawn rate, or something.
No Mans Sky effectively portrays the loneliness of space by providing so little for the player to do that its tempting to flush ones self out of an airlock just to break the tedium.
Not that you can do that. That would be too interesting.

I think also it seems there's little linking planet place in system to it's make up - for example, you'd expect planets closer to a sun to be more barren and planets furtehr away to be more icy but from what I can tell this sort of thing hasn't been included.
There is an altitude buffer, it won't let you fly below a certain altitude, you can pitch it to the surface, but it just holds a nose down attitude rather than descending if you are at the buffer, you can climb, up and out of the atmosphere.
It controls like an FPS, with LS doing all the movement, there is no yaw, but there is roll on the shoulder buttons.
The throttle is automatically held at a certain level, but you can press R2 to speed up or L2 to slowdown, there is no granularity in the throttle control.
All landing and docking is automatic, landing is a one button press affair, you press square to land, docking is taken out of your hands when you are close enough to a station.
Blueprint upgrades always take up a slot, I am not 100% sure, but I think the base weapons (beam etc) are identical and just buffed by the use of blueprints, I might be wrong on this though........

...The high likelyhood that we have been lied to?
Jim Sterling:
At least I know I'm not the only one. Was starting to think I was crazy or stupid or something
Dude, game has been released only a couple of days ago and the game is huge.
What exactly have we been lied to about?
What exactly have we been lied to about?
As I said, I'm not buying it. If they show up I'll eat crow, but before that I think they aren't in.
Are the creatures showcased before release possible to come across in the game?
wow, has a game ever split the gaming comunity so much!?

and this;
The part where a bunch of people who had this game marketed at them fairly haphazardly feel like they were lied too, I would imagine.
I don't know if I feel lied to, per se, but I feel like they should have walked back a lot of the early marketing for this game before release to temper expectations a bit. I'm going with "poor PR handling" rather than "intentionally lying" but still.
Yeah. I'm currently in a F star system. The planet that appears closet to the star has a temp of -15C during the day. Uh, ok. Obviously the game isn't realistic though so I have kind of accepted the fact that it's not going to make much sense anyway.
Intrigued about this, people here really were disappointed by SimCity 4? I've always thought it was awesome and very well regarded. Had lots of fun with it.Do you remember the Sim City 4 time at Neogaf?
That the creatures from a trailer two years ago, from a game that does procedural generation, have not shown up yet from a game that has been out... two days? That is the definition of "lying to us"?

My point was that doesn't this more or less happen with like every other game? With NMS, it seems like the lies (or vagueness, from what I've seen) have been comparably minor, even, but I admit I haven't followed the situation that closely.
I'm trying to stay as neutral as possible here.
People and vote for and against without even having to play the game. User reviews are meaningless.
Well like I said they do run from you. They run when you shoot the ground. Some are aggressive some aren't. I've had a tiger looking thing attack this mole like creature(than attack me.It's not only about these specific creatures, it's also about the behaviour of and interaction between the creatures in the trailers vs. what I've seen until now in the streams. Maybe that's also very rare.
Biggest disappointment to me is the ship combat aspects (judging from reviews). Only the most basic dogfighting mechanics, only two types of weapons (no missiles or countermeasures), no management of shield or energy and other ships are just... there, not doing anything like trading or exploring, just there. They probably don't even have a bounty system for you to capture specific targets.

People are looking at individual grains of sand on a beach and are mad they haven't found the specific one they're looking for.
They just got it on Monday? It's been 3 days nowI hate to repeat myself, but there are only two reviews cataloged on Metacritic. There's no way this game is so vast and deep that critics just can't come to a conclusion about it unless they're waiting for the PC version. That's the real embargo.

Not to forget the trailer on the last page depicting things which are not ingame.
Yes thats exactly what we need another thread about how Hello Games "lied". Given the scale of the game its quite possible people havent come across them yet. But nope another dumpster fire of a thread is what we need.
Better of in the Ot dude but I'll help. You may be missing two specific points, species, flora. Does your planet have water? If so make sure there aren't any fishCan anyone tell me what the records section of a planets info relate to? I've got 2 left showing ?????? and no idea what I need to do to fill them in.

I have replied multiple times to the "rarity" argument on this very page. Do you really think there is any sense in making them so rare that of millions of players across a long time (days, weeks, months?) only one person would see one?
Sure, but how long do we need to play the game to come to the conclusion that X is simply not there?
Or are we still talking a year from now that we just haven't found the cool stuff yet because 18 quantillion, procedural magic, etc.
Why would you conclude "this thing is not in the game" based simply on not having seen it? Interviews had SM saying that things like that dinosaur would be one-in-a-million encounters.
No I think its a stupid idea making rare, but plenty of Dev's implement stupid things. It seems just as foolish to conclude after the games been out two days that we've been lied to because no-one found something the developers explicitly said was rare.
