I noticed that none of the Multi-Tools I've found so far actually have a Scanner.

Is that normal?

Is there a way to find a blueprint to add a Scanner?

Don't I need the Scanner? I'm afraid of switching tools and then being stuck due to not having zoom capabilities any more and the money that comes from scanning...

I think some rules for gathering resources effectively are going to emerge, Sean has alluded to this a few times, like things being more common universe-wide on certain types of planets.

Right now I need aluminum, copper, and nickel; anyone know where I should head to find them?

Found lots of copper in asteroids near planets. The darker rounder ones IIRC.

I mean, isn't every game a clicker when you really think about it?

no not really. unless you go by "you click buttons".

but the usual thing about a "clicker" is that you do the same thing over and over again to increase a number so you can do the same thing again with bigger numbers and get bigger numbers to move on to the next bugger numbers etc...

In NMS, this is true for all the upgrades in the game. They are essentially useless.
The warpdrive is basically the only one that really does anything for you cause it means you can jump further to systems you want to get to.

But the actual thing that NMS does well, the discovery and then exploration of a world that you find interesting, does not in any way get better by you having a mining tool or more slots in your ship.

None of the busy work, the "clicking" actually does anything in the game to further a goal except "i have higher numbers" which ultimately amount to nothing because there are no mechanics that have any kind of goal that actually make use of those numbers.

is this post gonna get me banned?

Some help please, just to know I'm not stuck in some bug or weird loop or something.

I got my Hyperdrive via the quests and now I need to get the fuel.
In order to get the fuel (warp cells) I need antimatter, but I have no clue about how to get it. At the same time, a point of interest spawned in one of the planets that says something like "Interact with waypoint to go back to lifeform" (I can't really remember the message now so what I quoted is mostly wrong except for "lifeform", heh). I went there but it was underwater. I almost killed myself diving only to find the "beacon" and have it disappear. Then it showed somewhere else, I went there and it was underwater again. Found it and it disappeared, now it showed up again but I believe it's the same location as what I found first and the message telling me to go there shows even if I go to another planet... what should I do? Is there something I really need to do there, or can I ignore this?

I think I'm done. This game has such a weirdly self-defeating gameplay loop. Everything needs to be charged but your inventory is limited so you walk around pointing your laser at stuff so you can...charge your stuff so you can do it for other things.

Oh. My. God. Its so fucking boring.

Its sad because I generally like the feeling of walking through an alien (extremely sterile) world but holy shit this game is the cure for insomnia.

not sure about your issue, but I know for sure that certain vendors or ships inside space stations will sell antimatter.

Can anyone tell me what to look out for when looking for copper and iridium? I need some for my warp drive but I've not found any at all after many jumps and even a trip through a black hole. I've been scouring for large ore deposits but now I'm wondering if maybe they don't even come from them.
Thanks- Iridium can definitely be found in large asteroids too.

Pretty sure I found big deposits of all three on the jungle planet I'm currently on.
Nice. Haven't seen a jungle planet yet :>

It's ok for NMS to be a game about exploration.

Not every game needs to have a challenge or have to be focused around combat.

That beacon is probably getting you to ether the next story beat or the antimatter recipe. Not sure what the deal is with the beacon though... maybe try going to the space station and saving and reloading your game

Isn't this like a needle in the haystack question? I mean you'll find those on many planets but not everyone is playing in the same star systems and with the 18 quintillion planet thing how would one go about answering it? Spacestation trading maybe, I don't know.

Huh? Having more slots means I can carry more inventory which means I can use said inventory to acquire currency to get a new ship or different items. Getting a new ship with its own benefits makes me enjoy the game and discovery more.

Man, space combat is really souring me on this game. First two encounters I've died because I can't turn my reticule fast enough, and when my reticule IS engaged the majority of my hits miss anyway. Every other subsequent time I get into combat now I just restart the PS4, it's not worth the annoyance.

Finding exo suit slot upgrades helps with the inventory issue. Then once you have enough units to buy a 30+ slot ship then you'll be good to go. Inventory management early on in this game is a nightmare though but it gets better as you progress.

The new ship and slots do not change the exploration component of the game in any way.
The only thing that might be counted as a change is the hyperdrive since it means you can reach a system in less jumps.

I shouldn't get into the discussions too much,i really don't wish to be banned again

I really do love this game. It's incredibly relaxing and it helps me fall into my own imagination. I get a sense of wonder playing this game that I haven't really felt in a while.

How can I see what I have available in my inventory, without removing something? I know I have a lot of multi tool stuff, but it looks like i can't see what i have without first removing something that's active in inventory?

I searched all around my starting position but didn't run across any emergency beacon. Now I'm going to have to find it. I don't want to miss the Atlas thing. How do you get a better multitool? Will I get that after I leave my starting planet?

This game is going to be a cult classic. I don't think I'll ever tire of burning through the atmosphere of a new planet and becoming completely engulfed in its glory within seconds (or in some cases, horror). I think one day in the near future I'm going to end up forcing myself to stay on the next nice planet I find and just roam around and go caving.

Everything else is icing on the cake for me.
I'm really looking forward to when the obvious and foretold 'backlash' phase of this game's existence is over and instead of going through comments of people who never had an interest in the game or those that put unfair expectations that the game never did.

This thread has mostly been pretty good about that, but the toxicity around this game has seeped in to a lot of different aspects of social media and I'm already tired of it.

Uhh.... I was being sarcastic.

Like a trillion. I have jumped 30 times I think and have made no progress. The last 10 jumps have all been skipping over 4 systems. I don't understand.

You need to upgrade your hyperdrive to make a real dent in distance. But the black holes are supposed to be used as they are far superior.

Isn't this like a needle in the haystack question?
No, I mean, see the first line of my post.
I mean you'll find those on many planets but not everyone is playing in the same star systems and with the 18 quintillion planet thing how would one go about answering it?
I actually sort of already got two helpful answers, at least worth investigating.
what
How can I see what I have available in my inventory, without removing something? I know I have a lot of multi tool stuff, but it looks like i can't see what i have without first removing something that's active in inventory?
Do you mean like blueprints? You have to have an open slot. If your multitool doesn't have any open slots you wouldn't be able to install anything anyway... :P

Agreed.

This game is everything and more of what was promised by Sean Murray.

Not to mention the updates coming down the pike that will add all of our hopes and wishes to the game.

What's to hate on here?!?

Need some help:

- The aforementioned scanner issue -- I can't seem to find any of the new Multi-tools with Scanners. What gives? Is there a way to find a blueprint for that?

- Suit upgrades and technology:

1) I added a "Life Systems Alpha" or something of the sort that is supposed to prolong the life systems. Can I delete the original Life System slot?

2) Do I find new backpacks or something? How do I increase the size of the suit inventory? (I understand ships)

Don't I need the Scanner? I'm afraid of switching tools and then being stuck due to not having zoom capabilities any more and the money that comes from scanning...

Before you switch multi tools, have you highlighted an empty slot and checked your recipes? I swapped multitools because it had more slots than my starter weapon, then tried to scan and realized it didn't have a scanner. I panicked and checked my recipes, and had a scanner recipe. I didn't remember pickin it up, so I don't know if it's something you always have. It's really cheap and easy to build.

I really think the game has ways of giving you the blueprints you need if you think you fucked up. I've been using the preorder ship since the start of the game, and I didn't run into the hyperdrive issue where people were stuck. Eventually the game righted itself and got me on track. To be fair, I'm following the atlas path, so that could have something to do with it. I wonder if it'd be harder spurning atlas. I imagine then you'd be on your own, forced to fund the facilities with the hyperdrive blueprints yourself. That could probably take a while...

But I digress. Just make sure that you have a blueprint for building a scanner before you swap it out!

Oh I've been through at least 6 black holes, some of them have taken me multiple million light years and I am still over 170,000 light years from the center. They don't seem to be doing what I expect. They just seem to warp you elsewhere, not closer to the center. It's very confusing.

You keep doing this weird thing of applying your personal opinion, which is completely valid, to how everyone should feel about the game and then insinuating that it is a failing of the game because you don't feel it adds anything.

Upgrading my ship absolutely makes the exploration better to me. I'm sorry you don't feel that way but to say it doesn't just isn't true for me at all. On a mechanical level, you make your ship faster and thus explore a planet more quickly.

Something as small as getting a ship I find more aesthetically pleasing (I like the art style of this game quite a bit) makes the game better to me because it makes me want to spend more time in this world, with this spacecraft and explore more.

Ah, I forgot to check my already-existing recipes, although I know I never picked up a scanner recipe perhaps it's always been there. Thanks!

Okay you should totally be able to just craft a scanner from the very beginning, I think. What options do you have when you press square on a multitool slot

1) No, it's an enhancement. You need to keep your life support. save the inventory slot for now.

2) You want to look for drop pods. If you find a signal scanner, you can craft a Bypass Chip from your inventory (very cheap) and it will offer you some options- pick "Shelter" and you'll find a drop pod. These give you an inventory slot upgrade for your exosuit (it costs a little more each time). Once you have something called the AtlasPass there's another way you can easily get them.

Beautiful.

Thanks for the info all around!

Better ship/more slots = increases your ability to do different aspects of the game more efficiently which means faster and/or deeper exploration.

I have a friend who is literally only interested in being a space pirate. Having more slots means he can better achieve his personal goals in the game.

It's really not difficult to understand.

So I spotted this little critter from a distance:

Ok, maybe not so little after all:

Interesting planet. A lot of species are just hanging out together. I made friends with one and it led me to some copper. Good times. Still haven't left yet.

How did you get rid of those little white lines on the corner of the screen?

- Multi-tools cannot be found with Scanners (or at least not for me yet). They are found in boxes inside outposts (usually by the aliens) or you get them through interacting with aliens or monoliths.

1) You need the very original Life Support System, the Alpha (+1) just prolongs it. Now if you find Life Support Sigma, you can delete Alpha if you need to spot.

2) There are drop ship pods out on the worlds where you can buy backpack slots, each time you find one they go up in price by 10,000 units (I am currently at something like 25 slots). I hear you will be able to buy them from Space Stations later if you chose a certain path.

Yeah, I just imagine that I am, well... a space explorer. It more than scratches that itch for me and allows me to do some things that no other game has ever let me do. Beyond that, I don't need it to be Mass Effect or another one of the usual suspect blockbusters. It is just a unique experience about traveling the stars with a sense of wonder. Which is why I will keep going back to it just to see some strange new planets and enjoy all of the updates. This game is only going to grow.
