Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

Gundam is on 2 carts, obviously not going to happen with LRG seeing how costly vita cart production would be.

Putting some part of the game as DLC would be a nightmare and would be more work than needed.

I'll take two of each or whatever the limit is.

I'm not an expert in VNs. Clannad and Grisaia ring a bell, Narcissu doesn't... But judging by the reactions here it shouldn't be bad.
'Will investigate ! :D

My same exact reaction and for what I have read (mostly Steam reviews) it seems to be a great VN with a lot of feelings. It also seems to be a great introduction to the VN genre.

I just got my order for the Soldner X-2 and Deadline bundles in the mail and the package only had the soundtracks and no games. I already sent LRG an email, but I'm curious if this happened to anybody else.

The last couple of pages would give you an idea. :)

But yes, you are not alone.

Kind of worried that the increased traffic (hopefully) from a big title like Shadow Complex will make it hard to get Rainbow Moon since people may buy another game with it. Need my Vita version at least.

I'm buying both. Shadow Complex will be the first PS4 LRG title I will buy. ><

Gotta get me a copy if Shadow Complex. I'm doing the opposite of what I planned on doing, wait for the game to go on sale. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

How is Rainbow Moon? I was always curious about that game (reality is it'd be just going into the backlog).

I mean, ive no idea the logistics of it. But for example, Atelier Escha did this exact thing to get a retail release out (separate voice DLC so the game fit on a cart). It's even a similar circumstance - Atelier's run was limited, might not even have been more than some of these LRG titles.

Besides, isn't it some kind of requirement to make your games that size? Maybe it's just luck that it's never happened, but there's not a single game available on PSN (at least in Eu) where the base game is more than 3.3gb (which is the size of a cart). Only example I can think of which might ruin this is Samurai Warriors 2 Hd, which I can't check because it's Japanese PSN.

On the whole two carts thing - LRG is charging $25 - $30 for all of these indie games and there's clearly profit to be made for all parties involved at that price. In theory I don't see why they can't sell a two-cart game for $50 - $60 and make the same profit? Only issue might be that they'll need to order some bespoke cases to actually hold both carts lol. I don't think they have to worry about pricing it that high for a niche, wanted game like Root Double

Just some thoughts. I'm not saying it's the easiest thing in the world to do, but it seems possible through number of routes.

Here is why I think Root Double may happen physically for the Vita: Sekai Project will likely order or have someone port the game to the PS4, at which point, it's better for that team to port it to both platforms than using the japanese port for the Vita and making a new port for the PS4. If that team porting is Mighty Rabbit, they might port the game with the size restriction in mind already and we get a physical print that way.

The original Japanese team is handling Vita programming for Root Dobule localization.

I know that, but since Sekai Project has now announced plans for PS4/Vita releases going forward, I can't think that they'd leave one of their higher-profile titles remain a Vita-exclusive.

On a side note, Ouren and his team are in charge of the Narcissu PlayStation ports.

Root Double, like Grisaia , would requires permission from the Japanese developer as Sekai Project is just localizaing. For Narcissu and World End Economica, Sekai Project has more control as they are the one handling the ports.

Sekai Project had to get permission from all those developers, nothing is stopping them from striking a deal for Root Double and Grisaia PS4/Vita ports.

The deals are very different. Root Double and Grisaia are Japanese Vita game that Sekai Project got permission to localized. The others are PC games that Sekai Project already got permission to release ports. You are jumping too far ahead talking about PS4 port that would require new deal.

I'm not saying it's a done deal, I'm just saying it's a no-brainer if you analyze Sekai Project's latest console announcements. The only ones that know if it'll happen or not are the ones at Sekai Project, so only time will tell.

Narcissu is a massive get, holy cow. I read the original years ago and it wrecked me. So excited to get depressed all over again. (　＾∇＾)

Really loving all the VN love Vita's been getting lately.

Are these VNs typically full price? Should we expect the LRG releases to be $40 or so?

I was a little down on the idea when it was announced, but I'm actually now kind of excited about using this opportunity to try out a new genre that I haven't given enough of a chance before!

p.s.: 5 or so hours in, B&C Deadline is still great. I'm ready to say this game is being criminally overlooked.

I think E&L was like Danganronpa AE? Meaning that the dub was on the cart while the Japanese was put as DLC because otherwise it wouldn't fit on the cart. In RD's case you'd be stripping it of voices completely since it doesn't have an English dub. Not sure how feasible that'd be seeing how even the Japanese version is digital only.

Yeah, it was one set of voices on the cart. To be fair, I didn't realise even the Japanese version was download-only. That's throwing a major spanner in the works.

Shizuka raises a good point though. Sekai's goal going forward seems to be doing PS4/Vita releases, and dropping that for Root Double seems unlikely since it's a fairly big name. We'll have to see what they do.

I'll buy it regardless of whether it's retail or not, but if the file size is that big I'll definitely struggle to fit it on my memory card any other way :p

I was reading the news and thought : "you know what would be great ? If LRG were to release physically that fangame AM2R for the 3DS"

Never going to happen, but it would deserve it :D

It would also probably put LRG in all sorts if legal trouble as well. XD

Definitely not gonna happen.

I do wonder though, what the legal situation would be with AM2R if the guy who made it decided to reskin it, redo all the music, change the characters and enemy names, etc etc and rerelease it under a new name.

I'm just glad I prefer PS4 over Vita anytime given the choice when it comes to LRG. lol.

Although I am all over any and all VN's that will be coming. Although I imagine the demand for them may be pretty insane.

I was actually thinking of something similar the other afternoon about how it would be wonderful to have select RPG Maker titles available in physical format, particularly Yume Nikki or Mad Father. Logistically, a new engine would have to be developed for the latest generation of consoles since the PS2 was the last time publisher Enterbrain made anything for a Sony platform. Otherwise, a completely reminiscent yet unrelated engine would have to be designed to avoid any legal tangling, but I don't know how that impacts freeware titles. It'll never happen so it was a nice, inefficacious dream while it lasted.
latest

There are so many reasons this won't happen : legal reasons (Nintendo never support fanmade stuff) and support reasons (the game would need to be ported from PC) are the first that come to mind.

But from what I read, this is definitely one of the best Metroid out there. I'd buy a cartmod or something like that if someone were to bother creating one, in a heartbeat ^^

I have no clue. But that would be a shame to strip the game from its gorgeous zero mission skin *-*

So many digital only games, so few discs :o
Speaking about rpg Maker, I just found out the physical To The Moon PC release was DRM free ! Never heard of Yume Nikki and Mad Father before. What kind of games are they ? :)

Does anyone know how many copies are allowed for Rainbow Moon? I assume one given the size of the print? Usually they have that information in the product page, but not for this game.

Oceanhorn, a highly rated iOS Zelda-like, is coming to PS4 next month. Any chance on a physical copy, LRG?

With your “Zelda-like” description, I was intrigued, so I looked it up. I actually like what has been said about the game, and how it looks.

I would definitely go for a LRG copy if they decided to do so.

Inconsequential thing that bugs me.
Rainbow Moon isn't numbered like previous PS4/Vita releases in which the PS4 version gets the lower LRG number.

But maybe this is conceding that Vita is #1 which is ok by me.

I guess I’m an exception as I prefer PS4 over Vita.

Not that I don’t like Vita, but prefer to play on my large screen TV instead. That said, I plan to purchase both a PS4 and Vita copy for Rainbow Moon as it’s one of my favorite games and the game I’ve been anticipating the most through LRG.

Also, it gives me option to play on my Vita if I am not at home or the TV is in use.

What's the normal turn around on LRG responding to e-mails? Still waiting since Thursday to hear something about missing items.

I believe they try to contact you within 1-2 business days (as per their auto-response e-mail), however I'm sure that depends on how much e-mail is in their backlog. My first e-mail to them regarding Octodad was responded to within 3 days, but my follow-up to that e-mail has been about a 10 days with no response (sent them a quick bump to the e-mail thread as requested by their Twitter account).

I'm guess they're still trying to get through their backlog.

There were supposedly a ton of issues with the fulfillment center this time around so they probably have a crazy amount of work right now with all the emails coming in. I would not expect a fast reply.
