NYT: Republicans close to Trump say he's "exhausted, frustrated and bewildered"

Interesting... If Trump continues to seem deflated, this has potential to snowball. Or it could be nothing. Something interesting nonetheless.

Personally I'd take it with a grain of salt (Nate does better with hard numbers), but I can understand why it would. When you're down at halftime and are already talking about the game being rigged against you, you sound more like a sore loser than anything.

I'm unsurprised. For *anyone* not involved in politics, jumping into any political race, even at a local level, is going to be overwhelming.

Being Trump, and making that race one for the President, only compounds that issue.

You think there's a snowballs chance in hell that Trump is going to do well in a debate against Clinton?

They're going to make the Biden/Palin debate look competitive by comparison.

The Trump/Clinton debate is going to be amazing tv, and by "amazing" I mean "embarrassingly cringe worthy". Trump's only hope of not being totally decimated is if they allowed Johnson or Stein to debate as well, which is doubtful. Otherwise, it's going to be a squash.

They need to get 15% in the polling for that to happen. Johnson is a remote possibility. Its impossible for Stein though.

If he can't handle this imagine how he would be able to handle actually BEING president.

As his son has said, he'll let one of his inner circle run domestic and foreign policy while he makes America great again. Someone else will be pulling the strings.

That person's name? Vladimir Putin.

It really depends on the moderators. Trump will lie on the spot, interrupt her with "crooked Hillary Clinton", and get into verbal sparring matches.

It's like a troll on a forum. Don't engage. "Delete your account" style retorts is all that is necessary while watching him make a fool of himself

He just needs to buckle down and spontaneously generate the patience, work ethic, and intellectual curiosity necessary for intense study and practice that, by all indications, he has lacked for his entire adult life as a result of his overly-privileged and insulated upbringing.

I'm sure it won't be a problem. Lots of 70 year old men do it.

The moderators will almost certainly be normal people who probably won't buy Trump's shit.

Clinton will let him interrupt her with "crooked Hillary" if he wants, and the mods and crowd will respond negatively.

When there's only one other person, Trump's typical debate shtick won't work.

Yeah it's probably important to remember that his whole rigged rhetoric might have riled up a portion of his supporters, but equally may have pushed away those who were on the edge anyway. Why bother making yourself feel scummy about voting for someone that no-one seems to like when even he thinks he's going to lose.

And if the networks have a lick of sense, they won't allow immature booing to throw off the entire debate.

Of all of Trump's paranoid concoctions, the one thing he said that was true was the RNC stacking the audience with planted shills.

We don't. If Trump drops out, the election is totally lost. It's looking lost now, sure, but there's not really a realistic scenario where someone swoops in now to overtake Hilary. That candidate would have no marketing, no presence, and no real campaign behind them, and totally be overshadowed by the fact that Trump dropped out or was removed by the party. It'd probably be a bigger blowout than what it's turning out to be.
Honestly, the media frenzy of someone coming in to take his slot might be enough of a boost to make it a contest if it happened soon. These cats peak and slowly wane. If executed flawlessly I could see a new candidate's peak hitting in NOV.

Johnson will mostly go after trump if they ever were in a debate together. Stein will probably attack hilary and trump but focus a bit more of her attacks on Hilary.

I'm not surprised. I seriously doubt Trump thought he would ever have gotten this far. It's an utter failure on the GOP that they didn't have anyone better than Trump.

He/She wouldn't even be on the ballot in a huge swath of states.

It would literally be just to save congressional GOP candidates.

This apparently really got under Trump's skin. Half his speech so far tonight has been about the press (he called them "the worst people in the world"), and is now dedicating a segment to how the NYT is going to hell and how the reports are false, and, while I was typing this post, how maybe he'll yank the NYT's press credentials.

If Trump gets slaughtered on election day, the next day GOP meltdown is going to be a magical experience. If they lose the senate, it'll be even sweeter.

I can't wait.

Take the rest of the evening off, you earned it.

Republicans went in so hard on Clinton for so long... like she was the devil and would ruin America... they're gonna look stupid as fuck in four years when she finishes her first term and the world is still here. Even if she's just a middling potus... all that doom and gloom will be egg on their faces.

And if somehow she is popular (like if we give her a congress that actually functions) that could be Dem ammo for years.

...just said maybe he'll unban the Washington Post since lately they've been much nicer.

GOP Presidential Candidate. Literally threatening to revoke and grant press credentials based on how favorable coverage is.

I thought he was leading up to banning CNN, but he walked back a bit.

Clinton is probably gonna have a recession to deal with and is already heading into the WH with Bush II favorability ratings... she's very lucky Trump was the nominee but I think she's toast in 2020, unless of course Zodiac Killer becomes the nominee. Even then though...

??

I've heard Republicans claim that the US has been ruined by Obama. As if we live in some dystopia.

He just claimed they shut their camera off as soon as he started talking badly about them, which... I don't even know.

I've been watching way too many of his speeches and am used to the occasional jabs at the press, but he's just disintegrating tonight. The "I'm not running against Crooked Hillary, I'm running against the Crooked Media" thing seems like a really bad tact for him to take.

I wonder if he realizes going this hard on the press immediately after that article makes it seem more credible, not less.

Literally gay people can marry and a black person can be president. That's it. That's dystopia for racists and homophobes. Not war, crime, the economy. Gays n blacks.

You build your world on hate and love ruins it instantly.

Yeah, I've been watching fairly often because it's one of the craziest trainwrecks.

You're definitely right, he is real bad tonight. Yelling and even more tangential than before. He even tweeted after the article came out all of these strange cheering-him-on tweets from people who seem like suspect accounts.

And he just opened Pandora's Box with the affair/dress comments. Now comes his affairs, it's fair game now.

I'm watching the Trump rally in Fairfield, Connecticut and he is just a mess. He is now bitching to the audience about if he looses the election he will never forgive them for wasting his time and money and not winning. What a damn looney toon... Now he is kicking out a protestor and saying she looks like Hillary and yelling, "Bye, Hillary. Get her out of here! Say hi to Bill for me!"

He's losing it. He just accused the CT governor of changing his name because he thought it was Daniel, then Dan, and "now" it's Dannel. Then he makes fun of the name Dannel for a while.

Water is not wet!
On the topic of "exhausted, frustrated, and bewildered", today i decided to listen to what right wing radio is dealing with this. Started with one of the most repulsive out there, Mark Levin. Yeah, hes not to happy with Trump and the GOP. Hes blaming the GOP establishment for not getting their candidate on point lol. i thought the Republicans would eat themselves alive if/when Clinton won. i was wrong. They are doing it right now and im loving it.

They did, but Trump is the GOP. Most Republicans wanted the insane racist to run the country.

Yes... yes! Trump is going to turn on his base and its going to get nasty!

Listening to Mark Levin right now and he is calling Trump the leader of the Never Trump Movement lol

Dude is losing it hard.

This was always unprecedented but this is pitiful. Running a losing campaign on predicted bitterness for impending loss.

I mean what...
