Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

If it is something like the end of Type-0 I just hope it isn't as horrifically executed.

But I agree with this. I'm preeeetty sure that there's going to be one more location after Insomnia that's a little fantastical. But just one. Nothing like a giant plot twist that reveals we're actually 2/3rds through the story or anything.

I also wouldn't be surprised if it's similar to FFXII where the final stretch is simply a few regular battles followed by the final bosses.

Insommia is a linear affair since its a
battleground
so once we reach the
throne room
shit about to get real. For the record it's what I imagine to happen I haven't read no leaks or anything.

The length of a game shouldn't be an excuse for poor writing and performances.

The only thing that truly stands out to me is Glado's voice. Other than that I don't think the writing or performances are poor. Not the best but not god awful like I'm hearing here.

I guess I must be some kind of anomaly who actually enjoyed every single FF I've played, some more than others but still liked them all. In case you're wondering, I've played VII / VIII / IX / X / X-2 / XII / XIII.

US release gonna have dual audio? Please?
Nah FF12 back when it released people were not onboard, I think it took the shittyness of 13 to make people realize it was good.

I recall FF12 being seen as a return to form, outside of criticisms on who should've been the main character.

it's ridiculous to hold videogames up to the standards of anime and especially Studio Ghibli. for one thing Ghibli is internationally distributed by a little company called Disney. Square may be a big deal in video games but it is not Disney. it does not have the resources of Disney. it does not have the decades of experience in voice actor work that Disney has. it does not have the money to throw at projects that Disney has.

furthermore it's ridiuclous to think that a JRPG containing dozens of hours worth of content should be held to the standards of anime that is either produced in half hour chunks. at most a feature length anime will have 2 hours of dialog, compared to about 40 hours. to even get to that level in videogames would require 20 times the resources applied to your standard feature length anime.

20 times the resources required!

40 hours is 20 times longer than 2 hours!

so yeah i feel like it's an unreasonable request.

??? You don't have to be a juggernaut like Disney to accomplish some of the requests that are being brought up here.

US release gonna have dual audio? Please?

Yeah.

eh, it's not an excuse so much as it is the realities of production:

2 hours is less dialog to write, proof-read, rehearse, etc. than 40 hours.

now you can go ahead and say length doesn't have anything to do with it but if you want further proof try working a 40 hour work week then working a 2 hour work week and compare.

FF12 has always been the best polygon FF game for me.

Imaging what could it be if Matsuno stayed till the end for the original release, and if Ito were given a bigger team for the ZJS version (job change function babie ><~~~).

With both the original director left during development, the difference between FF12 and 15 was the former was left with Ito and Akiyama, who didn't try to change everything.....

I'm imagining this as well. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's just one more location that isn't necessarily long, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's the final location, either.

I loved 12 from the start.

I've had a very weird relationship with 12. When it initially came out, I was in love with it because I had been anticipating it so much, aka it's shiny and new and I've been waiting for it so it has to be the best thing ever. But then after a month or so passed I hated the shit out of it. It took me around 2 1/2 years to beat. I was also 11 at the time, so it was a very difficult game in my eyes. Not really the most kid-friendly game. I would put it off for months and go back to it. Also fuck the Elder Dragon or whatever it was called.

But then some years passed, I replayed it, and I liked it. Then a few more years passed, and now I'm just kind of "meh" about it. In the middle. It has some excellent qualities but the story, characters, and music didn't appeal to my tastes. Also, the License Board was dumb as hell.

Still buying the re-release next year tho.

FF12 came out when I was in the midst of my PS3 hype so I didn't give it much time (plus due to my shit tier planning I was crazy underleveled and got stuck) so I am secretly looking forward to the remaster more than a lot of games.

I know this is an anime thing but...have they ever heard someone breathe before? I'm not really convinced that they have.

It isn't 40 hours of dialogue. Most of that time will be spent on gameplay.

the issue is that your definition of bad and better; more than likely differs and clashes with others.
Do you see any of these, (relatively no-name) actors doing anything other than anime in the foreseeable future after this project is done? Or even getting honorable mentions for acting awards? Or even getting mentioned again after this game ships? Come on man, these dudes are not putting their best foot forward and for good reason.

I don't think it is perfect. There are going to be tons of awkward lines for sure...but I also don't agree with the notion that "stay cool" is the worst thing ever....in my eye, what you are asking for is a dry humorless tone...that IMO would negatively effect the game to me.
I never said it's the worst thing ever, only that it's a bad line that clashes with the tone of the opening. Like another poster said, if Prompto was saying it in a different tone than his most common one, it would make more sense. Good dialogue has rarely ever met dry and humorless, quite the opposite, the dialogue in this game is dry in the sense that it doesn't actually sound like conversations and that disconnect certainly doesn't help scenes that are meant to be comedic.

As much as the Witcher gets thrown around in comparison to this game, I feel like I have to admit, I hated what little I played of W3...it wasn't to my taste at all (twas boring to me). BUT I moved on to things that are.
That has nothing to do with acting so it's sort of a useless anecdote.

This idea that everything needs to hit this specific level or else it is bad, is one of the worst things about the internet lately. At the end of the day, it is super subjective and people constantly act like it isn't. You may find Prompto's tomfoolery to be unrealistic and annoying to the point where it takes away from your enjoyment of the game; while someone else might love that shit. Neither one of you are wrong. But its not this black or white thing people so often make it out to be. Liking or not liking something doesn't make you better or worse...this mentality taints forums for me.
It's a mainline title in the biggest RPG franchise in the gaming industry, there have been entries before this one that A)had better acting direction and B)had better scripts. You should expect better from a triple A game in 2016. When even Wolfenstein, a series in no way shape or form known for story, is getting some great results from the actors as well as a fantastic script that's way better than it needs to be for a nazi shooting simulator, you should expect more.

I might be mistaken, but I believe killroy is asking what the reception is to this video as he/she has not seen it yet.

I'm just seeing this thread, and fear even asking, but how are people liking this?

Lots of positive impressions. The press rather likes it, indeed. Plenty of criticism from fans, too, of course, but plenty of positivity as well.

Just some random thoughts and impressions:

-I know the Ch.0 stuff is likely heavily edited here, but even then the game sure drops you right in, doesn't it? You're set loose in a field and given a few minors shops and things withing 15 minutes of New Game.

-I love the customization of the magic system, but only having three elements, plus the way it's tied to what's essentially a "grenade" mechanic feels like a weird bummer. Taking up a slot on your action palette is also a huge disappointment. So if you want to have, say, one spell of each element available, you can only have one "weapon" on you. I really hope there's a Kingdom Hearts-style Shortcut Palette that gets unlocked, or something.

-Only one special ability per party member at a time? What? That can't be right. How ridiculously, disappointingly constrictive - as is the apparent total lack of control over party member's behavior or when you trigger combination attacks.

-Hopefully the "Astralsphere" isn't as small and straightforward as it appeared in the video. Maybe there's additional "pages" or something? I'm getting pessimistic vibes of XIII's Crystarium, which was just a complete straight line with occasional "branches" that just dead-ended after a node or two. Please give some real flavor and role-definition to growing these characters.

-Clothing customization is great. Hope there's a good variety of pieces. Fantastic that they seem to be striving to keep things in-engine as much as possible, too, so you'll always be dressed the way you want. Noctis in a puffy vest and baseball cap during somber moments is pretty hilarious.

different strokes for different folks? I mean i dont ask people why they may like NMS since it isnt my business, some of us just want an japanese styled rpg that isnt Tales of.

lol, what?

that's good to hear. thanks! i'll give it a skim now that i have some time

According to Kags that's all of ch0

All of this. SE's localizations in general though have just been worse.

Like seriously guys, remember Type-0? Literally one of the worst localizations I have ever witnessed in a game. I was completely shocked that this was from Square Enix, let alone Final Fantasy.

Then again this is the same company that gave tri-Ace a budget of 5 cents for Star Ocean 5.

According to Kags that's all of ch0

Really? What about the CGI scene where Regis sends off Noctis and co.? That's a flashback? That's a little odd....

He's asking the impressions of the game, not how could people enjoy what they are seeing

k.

Most VAs tend to do anime and such for a good chunk of their careers...not sure how this is some bad thing.

Troy Baker got his start in such work....his rise is kinda rare. I am also sure many of these guys will in fact get more work. they are working on a FF game afterall....that can't hurt to have in your resume.

not sure I get your point here.

Honestly Idk what's going on I always believed ch0 was the dawn trailers. Who knows ? maybe it's a fakeout by SE or The flashback occurs when Ignis tells Noctis that the reason hes not home is because it was part of Regis plan to keep him safe and out of the city.

The CG send off scene happens after chapter 0, then it proceeds to car breaking down.

Perhaps. Sigh. Honestly not going to shut up about CGI until I know that there's more than just an opening (flashback) and ending. I get it the visuals are good and there's costumes and there's a CG movie but pls :(

The CG send off scene happens after chapter 0, then it proceeds to car breaking down.

That makes sense and is what I was expecting. I was just under the impression from that post that nothing between Chapter 0 and the car breakdown scene was missing.

How do you know this though, if I may ask? Not doubting you, just curious.

Without doubt the best footage i've seen so far, after e3 i had pretty much accepted that XV would be a turd, but this video has me legit hyped. Also i'm so fucking glad you can change out of those ugly black justin bieber outfits.

I'm not sure if i'm the only person, but the more the SE demos the game, the more dishearten I get. They keep showing re-designs and re-designs of main characters... they pretty much have no creative vision when it comes to making Noctis older. Young Noctis had an asian look going, but fast forward 10 years and Old Noctis looks like Ocelot from MGSV with the exact same get-up has his dad. Like what the fuck happened, did his sleep and the powers of the Lucii Ring fuck up his appearance?

i thought he asked how people could like it, which is why i said different strokes for different folks.. people have varying tastes. or did i misread his question.

No, he asked "how are people liking this?" which is another way of saying "what are people making of it so far?"

English is a weird language.

Versus
fan?

Well yeah, been following since high school and now i'm working full time. I understand Tabata is the go-to guy when it comes to getting things done, but if you don't have creative vision what good is that? Doing more harm than good, no?

First off, they already made Regis look very western, and somehow you tell me Noctis is his son - which is hard to believe already. And now, 10 years later (from the new cut scene) you tell me Noctis has aged and somehow magically looks more like his father? Where's the consistency in that?

Well yeah, been following since high school.

Same here but i let that go in 2014. I know its hard but it is what it is.. All we can do is appreciate what we have and pray for the best.

Edit: he was given a budget and timeframe to release the game. So decisions had to be made its easy to cast the blame on him in that regard. But after the mess of last gen they couldn't afford to make sequels. I think that's why he did the multi media thing to cover as much ground as possible.

Watched 26 minutes of the vid
Liked what I saw
Can't wait until Nov, but it's clear why it was delayed for two months since there needs to be a serious sprucing up of the graphics/animations/AA.

Where the fuck are the CGs!

I'm having a hard time getting excited about the side quests/hunts when all u get are Gil and accessories (weapons?)
For an open world rpg, it really needs visible gear customizations
Are they the only way to earn AP?
That'd be an awful idea
Same for the mini games
Meh

On a more positive note
The graphics look pretty darn good in motion still

But where are the fucking CGs!!
