Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

The more i watch the footage, the more i feel slightly more optimistic. This will never be Versus, but what's there is very solid, and the gameplay seems pretty interesting. They were skipping around to avoid spoilers and large backtracking, but it still felt like the pace was decent.

I wonder if you can fight that giant bird they were sneaking around
Most likely. Typical you are not yet ready for this but we'll show you anyway young grasshopper that rpgs do. Besides we see it attacking them in the uncovered trailer so we'll meet again big bird

You know, I finished watching this and I'm... cautiously optimistic. It looks like there is a lot to do, and I love the costume changes etc.

It's not a very pretty game, and framerate is annoying as hell in this video. But I guess I'll just wait and see.

Yeah, the people saying it looks like hot garbage blah blah blah. I can't tell if they are serious or trolls. I'm not necessarily talking about people on here. I agree with some complaints.
Sometimes when people describe things one way or the other they exxagerate it. This will be the best FF game ever, 10/10! Or this looks like trash, how could anyone think it's okay to put this out after XIII. Exxagerated statements just to get a reaction.

Strong opinions do tend to form however after seeing Noctis' face for a decade so errybody is in their feelings at this point

Look at what this silly person had to say!

I don't really have time to go through a whole 53 minute video of the game, nor am I super interested to since most of it is just stuff that's in the early parts of the game anyway. I'll say that they have some balls putting out a video like that because for better or for worse, they're showing people what to expect from the game as it is.

So... the good? I think that coming off FFXIII being a divisive disaster, especially with two sequels which performed subsequently worse and worse, and FFXIV being a MMORPG which doesn't fill the needs of single player FF fans, FFXV feels about as inoffensive as it can get in the modern gaming climate. I think this is an important point in recapturing good will from the mainstream market, especially internationally, but it also makes the game feel really boring. By inoffensive I mean it seems to check the bare minimum in every checkbox for what people expect from a modern AAA console RPG these days. But that also makes it feel like it lacks a unique aura of being a major new FF title rather than a FF title trying to be everything else which is already popular. Oh well.

The art design is top notch though. I think visually the game looks interesting, the monsters look great, and while the world looks kinda plain, there are FF elements which give it a unique flair. The same can't be said about the graphics, which well... honestly... look like a prettied up PS3 game. I don't think that's an exaggerated statement either. The animations, the textures, the lighting, the open world-ness, etc, there's nothing there which really screams like it's a leap from GTAV for example, which was a PS3 game. Compared with other native PS4 titles, there really isn't a comparison at all. In particular the animations look janky as fuck. Probably the most disappointing part.

Story-wise the video makes it very clear that the game is going for a straightforward and traditional tale which puts its cards on the table early and you're following a fixed collect em all journey which links you from point to point. I don't think that's bad as long as each location is interesting and has smaller stories of their own. We'll see. But overall, what the video really reminds me of is that FFXV really seems to want to be... a brand new generation's FF1. It's an odd feeling but that's what I see. Noctis and his three friends are the four Warriors of Light. They go on a journey to seek out macguffins, to defeat some great evil being and save the land, and the mission motivation is driven by a single princess. FF has attempted many different stories since FF1, but since the first game there hasn't been one with such a simple set up. Ever since they have started telling large scale stories, FF has been about unwilling heroes or quests driven by deception. This seems to reset everything right back to a group of adventures with a common purpose who know and trust each other before the game even began, going on a quest with specific objectives. We'll see how that pans out.

Looks decent, but my hype is fairly low. I'm sure I'll still like it, but even TW3 was only an 8/10 for me. I'm just not as interested in the idea of an expansive, large scale epic game as I am in something more focused and cohesive. The writing here doesn't strike me as being particularly special, and while I'm excited for aspects of the combat system, and do find certain mechanics to be really interesting, I don't really think the enemy or boss design is going to be well thought out enough to really take advantage of them. I still think it'll be fun, and I like the art direction a good bit. Anyone who thinks the game is going to be straight up garbage is a doodoohead dummy, but the nature of this game's development makes it unrealistic to expect the same tightly woven experience I might find on a lower budget title. I'm expecting an experience that wows me at points but feels ultimately forgettable a couple months after.

EDIT: Lol, duckroll got right at what what I was feeling when it came to just ticking off boxes.

Just saw the video

and have to say Hype restored!

Dat music - is so glorious!

I also dont mind adult noct appearance and the VAs.

This really does feel like a callback to Final Fantasy 1. Like you said, four heroes setting out to restore peace to a kingdom through reclaiming a crystal. All in all though, it's the journey, not the story and set piece moments, that will truly make or break the game.

Everything from the car rides, to the mini-games, to the beasts and monsters you encounter, and the sidequests you take will determine whether the quality of this title. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of difference in opinions when it comes to one's enjoyment of the game based on how much time they put in indulging themselves into the world or simply focused on finishing the main narrative.

Probably said a dozen times but I'm seeing a lot of textures drawing themselves in.
The Hammer Head logo on the garage door, on Cindy's hat.

I agree, nothing visually in FFXV looks top-class. It looks good to me, but this clearly isn't like the past where Square were leading in the graphic department. I also do like the simplicity of the plot. If they're trying to get the mainstream audience along with people burned from FFXIII it's probably good to not release a bonkers Nomura-story and instead an easy to follow fantasy tale. If they want to do some crazy stuff with FF they can do it with a potentially less casual battle system in FFVII-R, FF Type-Next (eventually) or FFXVI if things go well for them.

The gameplay loop looks really fun. I like the idea of the pseudo-open world and I like the idea of spending a lot of time just exploring and taking out all the monster hunts and stuff. It's sure isn't Versus but it's still got me pretty excited.

Magitek Troops are ace. I wanna see more enemy designs and encounters like these.

EDIT: holy shit I actually love this so much.

I find it super surprising that this game seems to handle tight space combat very well. With warping and whatnot, I just expected all close areas to be ass to fight in, but that seems to be an unfounded worry of mine

I had some worries. I remember small rooms in Kingdom Hearts 3D being awful, especially with the movement in the game being WAY too fast. The camera was a nightmare at times.

I expect things to really get crazy when summons show up. Ramuh was was pretty insane, so how can they keep that kind of thing contained within a set area? Like you can't use them in caves i guess, and you can't use them in towns or cities either...do we know how many are supposed to be be in this game?

This is literally the first thing that comes up after starting a new game, so I don't think the FF1 comparisons are a stretch.

It's hard to say whether or not the story will be as straightforward as you're suggesting since we've basically seen footage only from the first 3 chapters so far in all the trailers except for that quick sneak peak of some point later in the game.

But then again, most Final Fantasy stories are just a fun ride with interesting locations and set pieces more so than any kind of deep, complex narrative.

Mini summons lol
6 measly summons according to the rumours?
Or 7?
Carbuncle is not for everyone right?
Meh

I honestly have no idea about either. I would like to know about caves too (though i suspect you won't)

As for the amount, we know of at least 4. Ramuh, Titan, leviathan, and
Shiva
. There are leaks about a couple more, but we aren't sure.

I think it will just be a big elemental spell that goes off, if you're in a cave or other confined space.

it's only for the people who finished the platinum demo apparently.

Didn't Tabata say that more "not quite summons" to the scale of Carbuncle would be in the game? or am I just wrong?

Also, this game's story seems like a huge mix of ff1 and ff10 (we are the 4 warriors of light; we must get all the summons and we are exporting their master to beat the evil forces)

Looking a bit into the lore (i was wondering what the "plague of the stars" was. Seems quite cool.) Unfortunately what it is is a perfect red flag for
Luna's death
and a potential end game where
an eternal night happen.

I remember when people still dreamed that towns would be populated as they were in the early footage.

Going around that market area where a vendor literally popped-in two feet ahead, with few to no visible NPC's. Yikes.

I'm still looking forward to this game and will be there on Day 1, but to no one's surprise, it's going to be a technical disaster.

Just noticed some of the NPC walking animations...

not good.

:/

Considering how it looks in the video, it looks like the only npcs with that issue are vendors. I wouldn't worry about horrible draw in like that for the full game (i hope)

Also, theres a cutscene shot where theres a lot of people in the background. I think they just didn't show populated areas for whatever reason.

Come on, that was just one area and instance, there are plenty of other areas in the game

The pop-in won't be a huge issue, just saying that in regards to this particular case, it's pretty damning. I definitely think people are setting themselves up for disappointment if they think the towns will be a densely populated as previously shown though. You're welcome to not agree with that, by all means, I'm not here to change your mind, but I'd rather be pleasantly surprised that it does than disappointed if it doesn't.

I would have preferred a grand CG opening, but it is what it is. I just hope they remedy all of the crashes & graphical issues that plague the game.

Now that I think about it, I kind of have to agree. A start with them just moving the car would have been better tbh.

Is that the entirety of Chapter 0, those first two minutes? It seems to just show the first two minutes then edit out whatever else happens and cuts to Chapter 1.
