Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

It seems like a pretty ham fisted attempt of medias in res if that's all there is. Like there's no narrative development during that scene besides Noct being old and the assumption that this adventure will take them through their whole lives (and that they'll obtain Gears of War slip n slide to cover powers).

FF Tactics prologue, this is not.

So is this the keyart to snorlax noctis?

Does that mean he woke up to fight his demonic self
That would explain ifrit/chaos having a sword lol

Possibly plenty of unknown context. I also think that these kinds of openings actually DO paint a break picture. Cold openings are typically about showing a character in a bad situation and it makes you wonder what it's about and how they're going to get out of it.

Mission Impossible 3 comes to mind.

Uncharted 2 does this as well. Breaking Bad too. But from what they showed us I don't think they nailed that feeling.

Like I get the idea behind this to a point, but...

Yup had we seen something like all the swords flying around him and some superhuman moves and then him defeated so it harkens back to FFII opening it would've been much better.

The only narrative point I can get from it is the unity of the bros saving him and huddling together.

This would have been a much better way to display it. As the scene stands, it lacks in composition, it's way too short and most of all it makes Noctis look like a totally incompetent moron.

At least we can rest assured that the androgynous devil on the throne is just as stupid for not finishing him right there.

Still not judging until I see it all and how it all fits into the context. There could be more to it, or not, and it may not even be trying to go for that specifically. I enjoy conversation but until further notice I don't personally have enough to go on in order to arrive at some verdict. We'll see!

Final boss or not, he reminds me of Xemnas armor(him sitting on a throne and and pushing the player back with AOEs)

latest

those AOEs were so annoying xD

This is a JRPG, so you will get multiple stages to the battle, with even enemies possibly changing, but do not expect to get to play as OLD noctis for awhile.

I'm not sure why you caps locked that. It is already confirmed that Noctis gets older as times goes by. For all we know this is him fighting a summon. The final boss would ruin things right away if they gave a glimpse of it. I'm still betting on the final boss being something completely different because Tabata constantly teased that the villain is going to be the greatest FF villain yet and he WOULD NOT ruin that.

CURSED FOOLS!
I just beat all of kh2.5 recently (and kh2 for the second time) so its so fresh in my head.

Just finished watching it. Probably just echoing some words here, but I'll just share my thoughts either way.

I have to say I'm still very much hyped for this game. The VA's could be better, but they're fine as they are. Old Noct is meh. Frame rates need work. Antiallias pls. Have to say the XBONE version seems to be a bit worse than the PS4 version. Based Shimomura.

Anyway, I'll buy this game day 1, play it, and enjoy it.

Yeah, but also why would Ifrit be the final boss? ;) That's very likely him. Huge Horns, everything engulfed in flames. He also didn't seem evil/antagonistic but a bit bored actually. Astrals have with a few exceptions (Leviathan and Ultros) very human-like appearances in this game:

It is likely one -if not the final- battle against astrals that Noctis has to overcome in order to use of their power.

The worst part of Chapter 0 is that instead of using it to show what a badass you'll become (the proper way to use this narrative trope) they make Noctis look like a totally helpless loser. He pants and squints at the flame, walks forward gormlessly, gets caught on fire and panics about it, end Chapter 0.

What on earth?

After they all huddle you see a blue light envelop Noctis, then he says "Let's go!" I assume he starts off weak but he's drawing power throughout the fight.

Though I kinda like how Prompto casually puts out the fire and is like "let's play hide and seek with him lol".

I think that's definitely Chaos in that scene. Ifrit is a savage beast that has no matter sitting on a throne brooding and drinking wine like Chaos. There's fire because Chaos controls all four elements.

This got me too. Meanwhile, Noctis nurses third degree burns and quietly weeps.

I dunno, I just wish I got more of a badass heir to the throne fights massive demon vibe and less of a douchebag lights hobo on fire vibe.

Plus, Ifrit is one of the weakest Eidolons in the FF series. That would be a laughable final boss.

There are only a few Astrals and I'd bet most of them have a pretty similar level of power considering they're all meant to fill different niches in combat. Think more along the lines of XIII (a few summons each as usable as the next) rather than a traditional power hierarchy like older FFs.

I got so riled up on the ugly parts of the video that I forgot to mention how Cor is BAE. Man, such a cool guy. Can't wait till the inevitable choice between saving Cor or Prompto to
immediately sacrifice the latter.

I prefer Gladio, especially 10 years later Gladio with a good hairstyle

, Cor is a close second

Old Noct looks like a fusion between Adam Driver and Milo Ventimiglia.

What if the real reason Old Noct exists is for Square Enix to gauge whether fans nowadays prefer a young protagonist as in FF12 or an older protagonist like the scrapped Basch design from OG FF12? This could determine the fate of FF16!

I kinda wish they introduced us to the characters before just expecting me to believe them and their history together. Part of the fun in the other games was how all these different people came together, developed their relationships, learned to understand each other, and learned who each other was. If this is the beginning of the game, this game lacks that element I really enjoy, and just starts with these relationships established, which is a big reason why I don't think I really like the cast at all yet. And getting to know them in the present doesn't really help me believe that they have anything more than a superficial bond at best.

Hell, I would've taken a full movie or anime OVA or something based on just Noctis growing up and how he and his servants/friends came to be acquainted.
Young Noctis was a mistake.

Agreed.

That being said, I feel like his English VA has been improved a lot based on what I heard in that video.
