Driveclub VR Confirmed for PlayStation VR, Out This Year

I'm wondering about the framerate of this. Locked 30 fps like the original is not going to work in VR by a large margin. There has to be a significant graphical downgrade in order to achieve this on current PS4 consoles (i.e. excluding Neo here).

Also, not offering the new tracks as DLC for existing DC owners would be incredibly stupid.

It's 60 with 120 reprojection. Read the thread.

I bought the original Driveclub because I thought the VR mode would be a paid upgrade. What a waste of time and money, sigh.

At least I hope they can keep it at 60fps this time.

Nice!!

Holy shit, i just realised how insane this game will probably look on Neo.

Yeah I'm really curious to hear impressions from people, want to see what the differences will be like. Obviously all VR games should basically come default with a Neo mode given their release dates.

That's really good news, I need to see some videos of it running, find out how many tracks there will be and get confirmation about whether they'll do a season pass in the way that they did with the original game.

Wonder they could enable weather on Neo or it break the parity rule?

Not sure Neo would have the extra power for this. I reckon they might downscale the game from a higher res to really help with anti aliasing and overall image quality which makes a huge difference to VR stuff. That's how Neo will likely be used here. For simpler games Neo will probably also help make 90 or even 120Hz native titles rather than the reprojecting from 60 method.

As for feature parity. I'd say the dynamic clouds is more an aesthetic thing, weather not so much, BUT I can easily see feature parity not quite applying so strictly to VR stuff. PSVR wasn't part of the leaked slides as far as I remember, it could be held to different rules than ordinary PS4 content.

The person who posted this blogpost was ex-Evo currently in WWS ITG.

I imagine whoever chose to remain at Sony instead of going to CM are the ones finishing up where Evo left off.

There's a quote from Rushy (DC producer) in another thread which I can't track down stating that Evolution is the only company that has worked on Driveclub VR.

That's likely the reason that they couldn't talk about the game until now, as they probably had some ex-Evolution staff finishing it up.
Or maybe codemasters is now finishing it off given that pretty much the entirety of evolution wax picked up by them.

lol @ "You'll need these".
Gets me every time

We who? SIE Immersive Technology Group? Because I swear Evo worked on this.

Anyway, hopefully the new tracks make it into the the regular game as well.

They've now confirmed that they will be offering discounts for this to people who own the original game's season pass.

It's not the same game. There is plenty of content in DC to justify the $15 price tag.

This is a stand alone product.
It is the same game, just with VR
It's not Evolution made a new game with new tracks and cars, because they can't.
This is just VR DC.

No discount for Driveclub owner? Can't believe Sony ask us to buy the game again.
Sony please.

Discount?

I was expecting a patch... or perhaps DLC at most :/

Is it gonna be all the same tracks and cars again? Edit: nm, read the OP

I don't understand what you're upset about

Driveclub VR comes out to add VR to the DC experience and you're not happy that it's VR only?

They've got an ideal alternative game for you..

The problem I have with this is that it finally adds city tracks to the game and that the only way to be able to play them is in VR mode.
The only reason why there isn't an option to play this game as the original is to push VR, and I guess that's understandable.
Still hugely disappointing for me as I loved Driveclub and have no interest in VR at all.
Would it be so hard to do another DLC pack for the original game to include the new tracks for 15€ or something? :-/

Uhhhhhhh so you're just in here to shit on VR? You realize this is largely the same game as the original Driveclub? So... no? What the hell XD

Yeah that's exactly what I'm doing. Just dropping in to shit on your VR parade. SMH

VR is giving me so much cognitive dissonance. I have a Rift and I really like it, but the software is a huge issue. I'm sure there's a ton to come for all VR devices, but Playstation VR is getting a bunch of exclusives that I really want. Also, with my time with the Rift, I've realized comfort is a huge player in this game, a game that it seems the PC versions of VR are losing. But then there's the power issue on the PS4. I think I'm going to have to just wait, I really don't want to drop another 5 hundo on VR, especially since the Neo will probably feel necessary after a PSVR purchase. I want this game so bad though!

Dammit VR, what are you doing to me.
