Resident Evil 7 biohazard - "Lantern" Gameplay Trailer

How? From 3 freakin minutes trailer?
2 trailers and 1 demo that are the same

It's quite obvious that this trailer and the demo are the found footage portions of the game, and not representative of the full experience.

Maybe these tapes are the new collectables, so instead of reading through someone's diary, you actually play what happened to them.
Maybe, I can see that happening
Perhaps the next trailer will actually show the game and not another VHS type.

This looks exactly like Outlast. It looks like it plays like Outlast. It looks like Outlast.

I mean, I'm sure once there's a gun and some other stuff, it'll be different, but right now the gameplay and art design is taken right out of Outlast.

I wonder how Red Barrels feels now that RE is stepping on their toes right when they are about to release Outlast 2 (which has a setting and art design even closer to what they are showing here).

Oh come on, lets not pretend like Outlast is the sole creator of those concepts, Outlast itself was a cheap imitation of Amnesia for the console crowd with hilariously poor hide and seek mechanics.

The more none shooting stuff they show about this game the more it falls off my radar.

The shooting in traditional RE was different. It was about defense and management. I imagine it'll be the same with this. If you're looking for extensive shootbang I'd probably look elsewhere.

If that's true, make sure you quote everyone who thinks otherwise then blast them in the RE7 OT.
They will, did you see the demo thread where they turned an underwhelming 10 demo with nothing to it into the biggest mystery on the Internet.

Outlast is not as original as you think it is, lol!

Then maybe Capcom should release a trailer that doesn't make their game look like a vanilla-ass Amnesia clone if they don't want people to think that.

I'm sure they will once they're ready. The game is still around five months away from release. They have plenty of time between now and then to show of the core part of the game rather than the tape sections.

With that said, I think some should go back and watch the surrounding screens shown in the trailer during Sony's E3 conference. It seems to show a lot more of the actual game rather than one of the tapes.

I'm not a RE fan to begin with, but I want to know how does this different from the 1000 FPS horror games on Steam.

I mentioned this in another thread and no one had an answer for me, but where or what are these games you mention?

I see all kinds of people driveby'ing and regurgitating that same base post "oh man the market is oversaturated with these kinds of games!" "there are thousands of these horror games on steam!"

...Where are they? What are they? C'mon name 'em

There's not nearly as many first person horror games as you people keep claiming, two serious ones have released in the past year, Soma and Layers of Fear, and they were both made on shoestring budgets.

Nothing wrong with letting a AAA developer step up to bat for once, we haven't seen anything when it comes to the genre's untapped potential.

I'm really tempted to make an info dump topic on RE7 since people keep on having fears that have already been addressed.

Write up a post on my full thoughts on the trailer in a sec, but reading the replies I see the same sort of fear-mongering from those who haven't been keeping up with the news. This is one of the 'found footage' segments in the game that were also in the demo.

lol resident evil and metal gear...when japanese wants to surf on hype to sell lot of generic stuff and forget what made their games strong.

it's sad for old people knowing roots of the licences.

Sales. It will sell millions on name alone if it is halfway decent.

But it would sell trillions if it was called Magnum Hazard and had Barry Burton on the front in triple denim. He stands high on a mountain of zombies who have been one-shotted, smiling into the camera, his sunglasses resting neatly atop his head.

I'm waiting until after TGS to make final judgements. The reveal trailer was great, I liked the discussion of the finger even though it amounted to nothing.

Capcom you gave us a demo and two trailers that are "not represantive of the final game" then when are we gonna see the actual game?

It's hilarious really and we have people that are defending this shit here of course. Time to show or go home, the game is coming so soon too. If they can't show real game play and these are not "representative" we have other serious issues here...

These teasers aren't even intriguing, they are straight up trash, I'm not sure what some are seeing in these lol.

We had a horde here defending RE6 to the very end and through the garbage reviews and all the criticism, fanboys gonna be in denial. Of course it's our fault to react to something based on the awful things Capcom keeps showing and not based on our hopes, dreams, words and assumptions. Who even needs the footage, amiright.

Still disappointing to me and this video does nothing to change that.
This is really not what I want from a Resident Evil game. If they wanted to go back to the roots after RE6 I would have loved to see something like Resident Evil Remake again.

Why call this even RE ? Could have been a new IP.

It is a horror game. It is claustrophobic. It has puzzles. It has tight ammo management. It has zombies.

So what is it missing? Cheesy dialogue and a third person perspective? Yeah, these two could go away and you can still easily make a Resident Evil game.

That's all in theory, though. This is still nothing more than a tease and we again have to wait until the next serving to make any meaningful comments. We only have one side of the game's direction, a side that they have nailed. The thing is that they would have to nail the other one as well in order to make a fine Resident Evil game.

I mean I could say "I don't see why the haters are hating" but I get that things are subjective and that these are teasers.

Looks good, and I will give it a shot. However I can see why some people are turned off by this, because at the moment it really doesn't feel Resident Evil like at all.

Heck 4,5 and 6 felt more "Resident Evil", despite being a change in gameplay just like 7 is with a First Person view. I will need to see more of this though as it is still early days.

Im more excited to see REmake 2, especially seeing as I never played RE2 so its basically going to be a brand new game for me.

Care factor dropping rapidly. I've heard that there are supposed to be weapons in the game, but so far, everything they've shown has just been yet another boring hide and seek simulator, where player agency doesn't exist.

They made Resident Evil great again. Finally.

Yeah, sure. They made it "great" by going the route of the most popular, tired and boring horror genres imaginable.

Amnesia was one of the most influencial games of the past decade.

Unfortunately, since it's still the best at what it started.

is this vr mode or do the graphics just intentionally look low-res because of whatever vcr effect they are trying to do? isn't this set after RE6?

My guess is that throughout the game you play tapes which deal with the Baker family. These will be without combat because you can't kill important characters and these segments will be like what you see in this trailer. The actual 'current' time in the game will have you going against disposable enemies and play more like RE is known for. Maybe at the end you fight the Bakers in the 'current' timeline.

Fear isn't going to stop until they show people what they want. The longer it takes, the more unhappy the response.

This looks really interesting.
Haven't liked the serie since RE2, but this looks good.
Also, first person = no shoulder camera, which is a huge plus for me.

Definitely gonna buy.

What I'm looking for is shooting being your main method of attacking, like every other mainline RE game. Not interested in hide & seek and/or melee centered gameplay.

Looks really really good. I'm hoping the demo is at least somewhat representative of the final game, which this gameplay trailer kind of implies.

Ugh, I just... I don't even know where to begin here. I don't like what I've seen and played of RE7, I really don't. Yet, I know there's a lot more they haven't shown, and I'm trying my best to keep an open mind, but when exactly is the marketing going to match what Capcom has said about this game? When am I going to see the form of combat, resource management, survival elements, exploration, puzzles solving, etc. that are all supposedly in this game, yet haven't been showcased in anything shown of the game so far. For that matter, why even show anything that is "not representative of the final game"? Do they want to deliberately push people away from their game?

I really don't get it. I mean, maybe if the game was a year or two away this would all make more sense to me, but this game is out at the end of January, 5 months away! What is this supposed to be, even? I really don't see how this is related to Resident Evil, or how it's supposed to be a return to it's roots when everything I've seen is as far from classic RE as could be. Tone, gameplay, everything. As of right now, I don't even want to play it. Maybe if they actually showed the game, I would.

I think it's the point of making her look generic. Like a normal person. Which in of itself can be scary, more so then another "look at all these fleshy bits, uuuhh scary and grotesque "

For all we know she collects people and throws them to actual monsters, or she is just a person that experiments on people. RE have had normal people in it before, so they can do that again.

Yup, I'm still endlessly pleased this is the direction the series is taking. It is so, so obviously the right way to go.

Now I'm looking forward to seeing how guns fit into this.

Yup, ghosts and moving mannequins immediately reminded me of the og RE games

I shouldn't need to explain, but I mean the atmosphere, puzzles, notes-- there were elements of all these things in the demo and we don't know the context behind the mannequins/ghosts. Do muscle headed cigar chomping gatlin gun zombies and Yakuza zombies and zombie tanks in China remind you of RE?

I think I'm really going to enjoy the videotapes in this game. Looks scary and fun, and even more interesting than the scenario in the demo.

That said, as on board as I am with this game, they probably *do* need to roll some footage of the actual game out at some point so people can stop worrying that this is some kind of Amnesia clone or whatever.
