Resident Evil 7 biohazard - "Lantern" Gameplay Trailer

Should just be a PT/ found footage for half or a third of the game and then you are either Jill , Chris , Claire or Leon and investigate what's going on in this location

Do it capcom , just for the record I'm loving the PT X first person direction since it's the 7th game , we need something new

I honestly never knew so many hated this game. I totally get hating the games it inspired, but Amnesia and SOMA are awesome.

Agreed, it's weird seeing all this newfound hate for it, (Maybe the sub par sequel ruined it's reputation? People who never played it just assume it's trash like Outlast? No idea) Amnesia was brilliant at the time it came out. I haven't played SOMA yet, but Frictional's earlier horror series Penumbra was just as groundbreaking in its heyday.

This is horrible. Looks and feels nothing like Resident evil franchise. It's just "spooky game N#6783" without the charm Resident Evil had.

Posts like that prove how risky their whole marketing approach is. If you keep doing this for too long there is the chance the general population rides a hate train with no return. You could show them a pretty decent presentation of your game after that but they'd still treat it like the piece of shit they have created in their mind that the game is.

I'm one of the firsts to call out Capcom for stupid ass things, but REVII is not one. At least not yet.

I played it for the first time this year. I can appreciate the setting and the puzzles but the actual gameplay loop of hiding from some random monster that you are defenseless against was pure crap. It's a borderline broken gameplay loop and all it means is that you have to hide in a corner and do nothing for a few minutes. Terrible.

Looks like something I've come to expect from technically competent indie teams who do these hide and seek style horror games. Still not liking this direction. They'll need to show some absolute core gameplay loop to me that WILL BE in the final game and not these demo-sorta-"not representative of final game" snippets. Item management, melee action and gunplay, hit reactions and bullet feedback, enemy AI while in combat. Those are the things I need to see to be interested in this.

If this fucking game is a stealth hiding bullshit game like the horrible amnesia and all its crappy clones I will go crazy. Hiding is one of the worst mechanics in game history. It's RE, I have a gun I DONT NEED TO HIDE.

They better not screw this up.

Agreed. Hiding is just not fun.

Yeah I enjoyed Amnesia and SOMA for what they were but I kind of agree with this

It's not broken at all, it's just different.

I can understand not liking it and I certainly see why people wouldn't want this type of experience in RE though.

Yep, right now what we have seen itself isn't what one would expect for RE. The action games kept the older feel in terms of arsenal and fighting. Anyone saying this is like the old games must have not played them in awhile. We're promised at the moment that they should be, but I don't blame anyone for being skeptical considering what has been shown.

Makes me laugh when people say "it's not Resident Evil", because it's exactly what happened before RE4 and then it became the best Resident Evil.
I, for one, welcome the change.

It's because RE4 is easily recognizable even if some didn't like it's direction(which is justifiable)

RE7 doesn't look recognizable in the Kitchen demo and doesn't look recognizable in this gameplay trailer.

This game continues to look like some low budget indie game. So far I don't see a reason for attaching the Resident Evil name to it.

The game looks like pure and utter shit. I mean what the fuck even is this? It's more modern day run and hide garbage which absolutely is not Resident Evil. I'm gonna have to bow out I think, every time I see somebody say "this is them going back to their horror roots; it's what you wanted" I just want to slap their smug faces. Call it an overreaction but this isn't what we wanted and you saying that just makes more things more annoying. Outlast 2.0 Fuck off.

I'm getting V/H/S vibes from all the story bits through watching tapes. which is interesting.

That's probably the only thing that has me really interested. Really hoping for some "fighting portions" or weapon usage (obviously too early, just saying my hopes).

To me, as a RE game this does nothing. I grew up with RE1 and then RE2 being one of my favorite games of time, pretty disappointing that this has become Resident Evil.

calm your tits!

well it still has some shitty voice acting, so that is certainly resident evily.

They definitely should be marketing what this game does differently from other FP horror games, since in terms of gameplay they still haven't shown anything that sets it apart from stuff like outlast and amnesia (and even those have unique gameplay gimmicks). Because even in terms of just running and hiding they haven't shown any gameplay feature unique to this. Alien Isolation had all sorts of tools you could use, Amnesia had the sanity and match system, and even Outlast had batteries for your camera.

That being said, if they have combat, resources, and puzzles like they have stated, then I'm still pretty excited for this. The atmosphere and visuals in this trailer looked really great, the enemy was really creepy (except for when she spoke at the end lol) because she didn't make any noise at all. No lame growling or angry noises, just silently stalking around and the kerosene rush of her lamp as she passes by. It looks like the levels are quite large too, and hopefully won't be super linear but something akin to the classic RE games on a little bigger scale.

But yeah, there just better be combat, and it better not be like a "special" circumstance where the game lets you get a weapon for one encounter and then takes it away and you're back to hiding for the next few hours until it allows you to get a weapon again. Wether you run and hide should be dependent on your resources and how you want to use them.

It doesn't really look like a Resident Evil game but that's okay. Too many franchises stick to the same formula. It's refreshing to see Capcom doing something different. I'm definitely curious.

Looks good, aside from the horrid IQ and texture work.

Seriously sub par graphics, If you told me it was a PS3 exclusive, I would believe you.

Trying to remain optimistic but that did absolutely nothing for me. It just reminded me that Outlast 2 is coming out and looks good.

My guess is that throughout the game you play tapes which deal with the Baker family. These will be without combat because you can't kill important characters and these segments will be like what you see in this trailer. The actual 'current' time in the game will have you going against disposable enemies and play more like RE is known for. Maybe at the end you fight the Bakers in the 'current' timeline.

Exactly this.
Love the new direction they're going.
And with the VHS-theory there could be a thousand great possibilities to mix all the genres and elements the series had in the past 20 years in one game.

Imagine that one tape is heavily focussed on survival, the next one on exploration, another one on puzzle-solving, next one on zombie-action...

This might actually become the "Cabin in the Woods" of videogames!

Guess you don't like Alien Isolation either. I loved that game despite it being mostly hiding. I did get bored with Amnesia and Outlast though.

That doesn't sound too fun IMO

Yea sorry. Love resident evil, I cannot stand amnesia.. I can't get into hiding games. It's not fun, it's not tense, it's just boring. "Hide here, now hide here, now run, now hide". Not feeling it though I'll be honest. I really think this is going to be a found footage situation and one of the series regulars are going to show up to see what's going on in the mansion. Gunplay will remain fps though.

I really hope the whole game doesn't have your character talking over the action like that, especially if they are trying to go for a serious immersive horror thing.

I'm still not totally sold on this direction, definitely needs something beyond the 'walk around' and 'hide and seek'. I don't think its impossible to translate some resident evil mechanics to this new direction.

Shame this carries the RE name. It's fine and all, but they're shitting on fans... Same as if the next Zelda game was suddenly character action or the next Metroid game was a multiplayer chibi style game

do people really think this is only going to be a hide n seek game like outlast? the demo and this seem more like a introduction to what has happened at these various places

Would be cool if other devs hadn't have been doing what this looks like for years already - Where does Resident Evil 7 differentiate from those games like Amnesia, Penumbra etc?

I wasn't expecting Silent Hills to be like how P.T. was at all, same went for Resident Evil 7 after that teaser demo they released.

Oh well, at least Shinji Mikami is still making games.
