Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

People comparing FF15's graphics quality with The Witcher 3 make me chuckle. It's an entirely different league and even the console versions of the Witcher look really good (even though it's the high end PC's where it starts to look absolutely brilliant). Don't get me wrong, FF15 looks decent (in the Gamescom build), but there's really nothing spectacular about it from the purely technical standpoint.

This brought me some serious Bravely Default flashbacks. Just imagine if the end game portion is anything like that lol

die demon you don't belong in this world

NO GOD PLEASE NO NO NOOOOOO

Seriously thought, i was thinking something like the party reaches Insomnia and tries to deafeat it once, fail to do so, Noctis retreat and goes into Time and Space Chamber, comes back to kick its ass.

to try and bring this back to the 50 minute video. Watched an analysis vid and some pretty interesting stuff that we've pretty much all missed.
Link here if you want to watch it, has some misinformation in some parts

Its mostly small stuff but basically the bits we missed are:

- Chest icon on the mini-map. Seems like chests are in.
- The Cocytus is an elemental weapon. Always love those :3
- The Engine Blade was a birthday gift (lol)
- Engine Blade makes the same (or at least similar) revving noise heard in the original versus reveal trailer.
- Clinging onto a warp point uses stamina (same as running) so you can't just stay there and be safe out of harms way forever anymore.
- The game will let you know when treasure or mining (elemental stuff) is nearby.
- There's an advert for Cup Noodle on a billboard (lol)
- another Royal Arm(?) called "swords of the wonderer"

and some stuff I noticed that the video guy didn't:
- Chocobo sprinting seems to take out a bit of stamina at a time for a moment of sprinting, its not like a run. But Chocobo's regain stamina over time, its not like FF12's Gysahl Greens (yay!)
- Iris is actually a "party member" in the scenes were they are walking around together. Her HP is measly though, but it does give cadence to the idea that she is an added guest member

Thanks for this link, I'm watching and loving it.

Or, if Altissia is anything like its real-life counterpart, he may go there, swim in the canals and gain superpowers or some shit, Radioactive Man-style. That, or he dies :P

The lighting in Duscae at least absolutely looked more impressive to me than the lighting in the Witcher 3. Even in the Blood and Wine, which looks better than the base game, it looks a bit flat during day time scenes. I also don't really agree that there is that big of a difference between W3 on consoles and on PC. Certainly not near the difference between the earlier videos of the game and the release game.

I haven't checked the thread or the video because I'm on medio blackout.. but I'm too curious: as a general perception, how do you see this video? good? bad? mediocre? amazing?

Depends who you ask.

If that sounds vague as hell that's actually the most accurate way to describe anything related to FFXV since like 2013.

For me.. I loved the look of it. It looks fun to me and I'm excited to play.
The graphics (flat 2d trees etc) and frame rate are my only issues but hopefully those are sorted by release..(honestly I'm doubtful though)

Here on GAF? Mixed reception. Gameplay looks fantastic. Visuals need polish.

Hands-on impressions by those who actually played it are overwhelmingly positive, with just very few negative impressions.

It depends on a persons capacity for self deception and delusion.

It's like someone who's pretty in certain angles and in certain lighting conditions and hideous in others.

Can I talk plot? This is pretty spoilery, so don't highlight casually.
So King Regis suffers from accelerated aging due to being linked to the power of the crystal and keeping The Wall up. And now Noctis shows up in the prelude scene having visibly aged. So why does everyone say there's a time skip? Maybe he links to the crystal like his father did and puts on a few years. Or am I completely off-base?

It made me feel pretty excited for the game. I didn't pay attention to whether or not it was lacking in graphical fidelity, just from playing a video game stand point, I saw a lot that interested and excited me.

Gameplay seems to be generally perceived as quite positive (of course there are always some haters). Regarding it's graphics the overall reactions are mixed to downright appalled (of course there always some that like it). The game can look really rough at times, especially on Xbox One. :(

Previous leaks have hinted at a time jump in the game and seeing an older render of Noctis lends credence to those leaks. That's all. I mean, Noctis could very well have just put the Ring of the Lucii on and it ages the fuck out of him. Who knows.

Once he knew he wanted to avoid that patch, Tabata says he estimated that two months would be enough to put that content on the disc and allow for extra time to make the visuals as complete as possible.
“It would take about one month exactly to fit everything we wanted in the day one patch into the disc version. And with that, pretty much all of the technical issues would be sorted out,” he said. “And then we thought that after we got that technical base down and there were no problems there, it’s one more month to polish everything up and get it really great. And that’s why it was two months.”
The level of quality that the fans are all expecting...wasn’t quite there yet.

The main thing there is working on fixing the bugs which affect the visuals of the game, polishing that up and doing the final optimization push. The other thing, I think we can get much closer to that perfect game balance in that final balancing period as well, to make it a game that’s really fun and easy and comfortable to play for any kind of player.”

In Tabata and the amazing FFXV development team I trust. :3

By the way. Do you watch the movie before or after the game? I have been in a pretty deep media blackout for this one. I've only followed the technical discussion.

I think he's really only referring to depth of field issues, pop in, and dithering.

I thought it looked great. I didn't notice any "horrible graphics" until people started posting screenshots. It's just not that noticeable in motion. It reminded me of when they released one of the last Watch Dogs trailers around March 2014, a couple of months before the game released... and people were taking screenshots from it that almost literally looked like an N64 game. When I played the finished product, it never looked anywhere near that bad. So when I see that awful screenshot of the Chocobo race starting line, it doesn't worry me too much.

Probabaly 1080p on both consoles, stable 30fps and a great AA solution. Oh, and improved LOD. Believe! :D

Thing is, the awful chocobo screenshot and others were actually official promo material provided by Square Enix... You would think they choose the best pictures to portray their product. So what looks the game in not so great situations? ;)

Before playing the game is ideal, but considering how fast Kingsglaive plot is moving I think it's better to experience first 2 chapters of the game first.

Highly doubt it will end up being 1080p fixed.

My expectations are main 1080p with drops to 900p during action-packed scenes for PS4, and main 900p and lower for Xbox One.

I DO believe that the game will have a more or less stable framerate at 30fps, and if it drops it won't be something extreme like the lower 20's.

I think LOD will remain the same, sadly. :(

They definitely did not do themselves any favors by making Xbox One footage nearly half of the 50 minute video. It was not in a very presentable state. It's akin to advertising Bayonetta with half Xbox 360 footage and half PS3 footage.

Yeah, and the Watch Dogs trailer was official too. Point is, sometimes poor screenshots can be sourced from official materials, yet somehow they simply don't truly represent the finished product that you play on release day.

It's good that we know from watching the video that's pretty much the worst it gets, and SE marketing can't pick screenshots to save their lives.

Nice. The only reason I'm so harsh with FFXV is because Versus was my most anticipated game ever and I've been waiting long. If they fix the graphics this is shaping up to be a wonderful jrpg.
