Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

I just made a huge mistake guys

I played a round of TF1 after binging on (and starting to feel okay about) TF2.

It's like the shackles were lifted. NO MORE MOLLASES, I COULD MOVE FREELY! TITANS WERE PLENTIFUL AND EFFECTIVE! RODEOING WAS A FUN GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE! I COULD FLY AROUND THE MAP WITHOUT GETTING INSTANTLY SHOT DOWN!

Also, first person mount up animations are 1000x more badass than 3rd.

Yeah I made the same mistake.

Original game is FAR superior. Fucking devastated right now. :(

Eh, I don't like it. Even with classic aiming. The Titans are a kill streak or score streak or whatever. Might as well be CoD AW or Ghosts where the score carries through death. If you think otherwise you're lying to yourself. Matches feel completely empty now since the bots are MIA. I do kind of like the battery mechanic I can see it promoting teamwork to keep the Titans around longer. Pilot V Pilot shouldn't exist. That's basically a newer CoD with robots. It wasn't fun and it wasn't in the spirit of the original game. I'm very disappointed Titanfall OG is a great game. This is a sequel gone wrong.

Never played titanfall before. Tried the test last night - didn't like it. Seems so slow and reminds me of COD which I haven't touched in years. If I'm going multiplayer again this year - it will be Destiny.

Yeah, seemed pretty slow after what I'd seen of the first game.

And there's no setup to change aim and shoot to the bumpers :(

Played about an hour. Quick impressions from a PS4 player who has never played the first.

-I really enjoyed the speed and maneuverability. Felt a good deal faster than CoD and it was really satisfying nailing headshots coming out of a slide or double jump. The default aiming felt off. Classic felt a lot better to me, even having not played the first game. Felt fantastic after that

-Bounty Hunt was fun when the grunts and specters get involved. Mowing down a huge group to earn a Titan right off the bat in my first game was incredibly satisfying and put our team at a huge advantage.

-Amped Hardpoint was dull which surprised me since Domination style modes are usually my favorites.

Overall I'm digging it so far. Need to put more time in to say much about the titans and other elements.

After playing this some more I feel my biggest problem is how much the maps deter you away from the movement system that made Titanfall fun. Everyone just camps rooftops and as soon as you wall-run or whatever you get instantly killed by the guy who was on the rooftops waiting for someone to pop out.

Also, this has encouraged camping snipers which is something I thought I would never see in a game like this. Of course there was some snipers in TF1 that would sit in different parts of the map but with the maps in TF1 you could easily juke them out, in TF2 with these big open maps most of the time your running on ground and you can easily get shot.

After reading impressions in this thread I feel like the people who never played TF1 will love this game but the people who did won't as of right now.

Never played the original as I was a Playstation 4 owner at the start of this gen.

I'm liking it so far tho.

I can see how it's not as mobile as the trailers made it out to be but the game is still pretty much a blast.

I guess having no expectations about it makes the experience better.

Without question the biggest problem in Titanfall 2 is the lack of AI, the decrease in verticality / movement, and the speed.

If they could have done this Beta early enough to address these things the sequel could have really delivered but these are some glaring miss steps

Or having no point of reference with the first game.

I'm feeling pretty mixed on this. The grappling hook and slide are great additions, but overall the mobility doesn't feel as good as the first one. Maybe it's just the maps, but I had a hard time getting around fluidly.

I also miss having the little screen with Sarah/Spyglass giving you update on your titan.

Does anyone else feel like the Titans are also way weaker and easier to take down compared to the first Titanfall? Also I hate the new rodeo mechanics...

Just got done playing with some friends. Maybe it's cuz I despise the maps, but the design of these maps just makes me not have fun at all compared to the first game.

Yeah the maps aren't great either. They're slightly bigger advanced Warfare maps.

Respawn are reminding me of Bungie. They work better with less money and a tighter deadline.

Eh not really. Having no expectations isn't the same as having no point of reference for how it should feel. You could've played TF1 and still had no expectations for this game.

I would say that is it very reasonable for someone to have expectations for a sequel to something if they had played the prior one.

Also why does it really matter? It's stupid semantics when we should be discussing something about how I liked it and others did not.

Damn that's something that's missing!!! Even something as you taking down a Titan when Blisk says, "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" that's character! That's life! That's neat' or getting a double, and just hearing him say, "That's a double" little stuff like that adds a lot, and I'd tack that on to my post about battlefield banter bringing life!

But the Titanfall crush was awesome too ;)

I'm hoping that some of that stuff is stripped to reduce file size. I've played some real network tests with vmc and those versions of the game have like no dialog or music at all, and cut down textures as well.

Not impressed either, after playing a few hours (I'm level 7). I don't feel the same rollercoaster effect of the first Titanfall. My main issue is that it's now Titanfall with less titans, they should be raining from the sky, riding, fighting them and ejecting from them should be fun and happen all the time. And I miss the bots and their chatter. I was giving the benefit of doubt for the new rodeo, but after trying it, it's definitely not as fun as emptying your clips in the titan hull.

The major positive aspect is the grappling hook. It's harder to master than the base wallrun, but you can see it has a lot of potential with its use of physics and momentum.
I'll keep playing it in case it "clicks" (or it gets fixed before release), but right now those impressions made me switch from "day one" to "no buy". :/

I just made a huge mistake guys

I played a round of TF1 after binging on (and starting to feel okay about) TF2.

It's like the shackles were lifted. NO MORE MOLLASES, I COULD MOVE FREELY! I COULD DODGE AND JUKE EVEN ON OPEN GROUND! MOBILITY IS REWARDED RATHER THAN PUNISHED! I DON'T BLOODY GLOW ON THE ENEMY'S SCREEN! TITANS WERE PLENTIFUL AND EFFECTIVE! RODEOING WAS A FUN GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE! I COULD FLY AROUND THE MAP WITHOUT GETTING INSTANTLY SHOT DOWN! MAPS ENCOURAGE PARKOUR! AI GRUNTS PROVIDE COVER AND FODDER FOR KEEPING THE PACE OF THE GAME FOCUSED ON ACTION!

Please don't wake me from this dream.

Also, first person animations are 1000x more badass than 3rd.

Fuck. I was afraid of this.

I wasn't saying it couldn't happen, someone more than likely would have expectations for a sequel having played the previous title. I was just saying it's also possible to have no expectations too even with playing the first title.

If we talk about why you like it and others don't it comes back to the point of reference. That could be a major factor. A game can't feel 'off' to you if you don't know what 'off' is. The Titan combat and movement can't feel better or worse since you have no baseline. I think I'd like this game more if I hadn't played TF1 but TF1 has colored my opinion since it's an immediate comparison. It's the same as a veteran Halo player hating reach while a newcomer loves it.

Another thing. Everything feels shrunk in TF2. In TF1 you had large interiors you could easily parkour in, here, they are cramped and very much CoD scale.

Titanfall 2 feels like a reboot of a game that didn't work. The population died because of a lack of content and customization, not because the mechanics were broken.

Really all we needed was a refined TF1 w/ more of everything we loved, not a replacement for those mechanics.

This is another spot on post.

Hell even the buildings and general geometry has A LOT of clutter, half of the time you have to put your boots on the ground with no options. Or risk being stuck during a wallrun.

What I don't understand is why failed the first game so bad?

It seems that it was the glory land by all the comments here. But nobody played it after some time. Or am I wrong?

Check the post that gets quoted above me.

As someone who never played the first, I really want to like this, I really really do - but I just can't get into it. It plays more like a rougher Call of Duty entry and the Titans aren't enough of a gimmick to shake that samey feeling. I was expecting the fast paced nature and parkour movement to be the standout, but it honestly feels sluggish more then anything.

Just played a match of titanfall 1 just to see how it compares.

It was glorious

It doesn't feel anywhere as fast / fluid as the 1st game so that's understandable

Not really feeling this game at all. Maps are weak and the movement feels worse than the 1st game. Titans last like 10 seconds. The A.I. are all clustered into the same part of the map instead of being naturally scattered around the map.

The only improvement I'm seeing are the graphics. Hopefully they fix the game up...

Between the grapple and the improved slide I think it feels fine. These maps aren't really in the city block/lab facility motif that some seem to want out of it but the more open spaces highlight the new mobility options pretty well. We have two maps, and the shooting feels as good as it ever did. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it.

Well, my suggestion after a few hours of playing is : please make it more like the original titanfall... I really don't like the majority of their new changes.

I guess I should go back and play a match of the original to really see how stark the difference is.

So my brother and I are on the same network, and while this causes minor issues in other games (like one of us being moderate nat) we're still able to play together.

This game however, hates us being on the same network. I will 90% of the time get kicked while the match is loading, and nothing I do fixes the issue.

I tried putting one of us on the DMZ, I tried just keeping UPNP on and letting it sort things out, and I tried forwarding ports, but nothing works.

This is EXTREMELY frustrating

Was surprised with the mixed impressions then i played it. The game def feels slower in terms of movement, might be a mix of the maps and gameplay but 1 felt faster, smoother, and more fun.

You know what, sometimes R2 can feel real good. It has the potential! The Slide and Grappling Hook can be ace when done right. And they're great additions to the pilot mobility. But it was changing everything else that's really killing my vibe. I want to love it, I really do. I want it to do well, it has the potential. I just hope Respawn can apply all this feedback within the next two months, if that's even feasible.

I know Rayme has been reading posts all day, and I know it's probably heartbreaking to read this stuff, especially the people who aren't saying what don't like. But I kno the potential is there, and I know they can get that Titanfall back to its roots. I just hope it isn't too late. Somethings I fear are, like our new gimped Titans- but dammit. I want to believe. I wish they had done a true beta a year ago like 343 did with Halo 5. Because this is a Halo 4 scenario, and if they release it like this, I really hope they can give us our Halo 5 one day.

Yeah they Fucked up.

Casuals might like it though.

Watch it break sales records across the board. Every time someone's favorite film/tv show/game, etc., gets a sequel or a remake there are a very vocal minority who aren't happy with the new direction. And they're so vocal that they can make you believe they are more numerous than they are. Then said film/tv show/game gets released and the average consumer consumes and studios make millions. Ghost Busters recent remake is a prime example of very vocal internet rage being nothing more than impotent.

TL;DR

It will break all kinds of sales records, and many people who complain about it will not only preorder, but will get the digital collectors edition for big $$$.

Uuhhhhh...about that. http://variety.com/2016/film/news/ghostbusters-loss-sony-50-million-1201834911/

I'm afraid this will be no different. It's the hardcore audience that would've stuck around while Gears4, BF1, and COD all drops around it. All my friends I played with that adored TF1 is not buying TF2. I was the last of my group holding out hope that all the announced changes would pan out. It's not, for me, and this game feels like it wasn't made for fans of TF1. Like what Cliff and Epic did with Gears 2 after Gears1, Respawn doesn't seem to of cared what the fans want and enjoy about titanfall, they just want their vision, and that's ok, but I don't follow this vision and I'll stick with TF1.

I played two matches and something feels different from the first one. The first game seemed much faster paced and I was jumping around and running on walls constantly. Seems like that doesn't happen now. And didn't we get titans sooner in the first game?
