Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

Do you guys think we'll see another community patch? I sort of feel that they wont change much else. They said theyd listen for the first patch, but Im curious if theyll consider another
 
So is now when you're supposed to play for the callsign?

First time going through in weekend two. Ttk is still too low, I use the ticks over amped weapons bc they work decently on people camping the banks and still destroy people with the orginal assault rifle. There is a little more speed, but grapple is too necessary for me to think about trying anything else. And rodeo still sucks bc it seems like people have it down the time I jump off with battery and regularly can take me out (short ttk makes ot hard to get away in open, which most of the map is lol).

Dont like 3rd person titan loading and still missing attrition.

It's an awesome kill feed, visually great, but... come on. Accurate hipfire on a SMG is a necessity in a game this mobile. Reminds me of TF1 CAR accuracy tbh.
Accurate yes, but to the point where you don't even have to ADS with the gun? And this is without COUNTERWEIGHT mod.. will they even have that mod for this gun now? I like the hipfire accuracy of the carbine in this, it's perfect. The C.A.R needs to be lowered a bit, at least without the counterweight eh?

After allll day with the game today i have to say they've created something great here, but it's not what the original Titanfall was. It's like a bastard child of Titanfall and Blop3. They've finally been able to do a decent Pilot V Pilot. That's something that was horribly missing in the last game because it just didn't work. It works well here.

Also, i have a renewed faith in the Titan combat. Scorch is a blast to play. I mean really fun despite being a fucking slow tank. And this is coming from someone that rarely ever played with the Ogre. I think we have something special in store for the Titan play once we get all the Titans in.

There needs to be a change to powercell. As it is now it's not worth it compared to health regen booster because

1. your health regen without the boost is too slow. 2. powercell doesn't increase replenishment of tacticals like stim fast enough to warrant it. This really does need to be reconsidered

Also, let me customize my pilot and not be locked in based on what tactical I pick.

Id say bring back the sidearm with anti-titan weapon too, but ttk is so short you dont have to worry about running out of ammo and reloading your main. One of you will be dead before the clips run out.

I already feel like rodeo is skewed really hard against pilots as is but holy shit. Scorch is INSANE, even moreso if you spec into the more damaging/longer lasting flame shield. Literally don't even need smoke anymore with him.

does this also mean you can hold out the flame shield if they grapple towards you?

I did wonder about this, someone on stream earlier was using the flame shield to do damage and I wondered if you could stop grapples with it, I guess it's hitbox can hit rodeo pilots then!
 
After playing this and last weekend, I'm at peace with what TF2 is going to be, but I think it still has issues. My short list:


  • These maps just don't showcase the unique elements of Titanfall very well. Who puts out-of-bounds trees in the middle of a map in a game that's about parkour freedom? Were these just all designed for CTF and shoe-horned for every other mode?
  • The default rifle is too accurate and too damaging at too great a distance, and its accuracy falloff on full-auto is far too lenient. It just needs some tuning. I think a lot of the TTK issues people have with the game stem from this one weapon alone.
  • Bounty Hunt is still not a fun mode. Still too campy, too forced.
  • Titan shield core- if it's going to stay like this, can I pull and then replace my own core so I can get a shield? Logic. It... fails.
I'm hopeful there's a big list of creative and interesting perks and talents we're not seeing that mess with map detection, weapon usage, kit powers, titans, and other things. Maybe I'm reading too much into the one "wacky" power at L12 - the "hover in place while aiming" one, which combined with the shotgun and stim can lead to some fun surprise kills on opponents when you just jump and don't come down.

Of course in a ranged exchange it's useless. Non-motion in this game is guaranteed death. I found myself detaching scopes from the guns when using it,as I wanted to maintain my sight profile as close to default when airborne.

Yup, that always worked. But now if they just jump on your back this kills them faster than smoke would and is basically always up.

You can murser titans super fast holding the shield up actually. It's really powerful.

That AI voice is so nice. In R1 I always used the Japanese or Russian voice lol.
 
It's strange that Titanfall 1 had a really in depth tutorial on both pilot movement and combat as well as Titan movement and combat.

Titanfall 2 has the gauntlet. That's it. The gauntlet. So it's effectively useless for new players and teaches none of the new stuff to old players. No way known the original Titanfall team made this. No fucking way.

Tech Test features a subset of the SP training mission.

I said the same thing about scorch. I almost never played the ogre and found the scorch to be very fun and became the go to titan in my short time with the game. I think they've tried hard to make each titan quite unique too, so I am looking forward to that. In TF1 there wasn't a whole lot differentiating the 3 compared to all the things they can do with the 6 here, from the energy bar, to abilities, primary weapon etc, and even dashing is taken further to differentiate.

As for the whole CAR thing, I'll have to see the difference between the counterweight and not. But I think with the CAR you never really should be ADSing, even in the first one tbh. And I think that's a good thing. I'll have to mess around with it to know for sure. And I'm sure they're still tweaking certain values on the weapons. I think it's hard to say without seeing spreadsheets to compare, but the high accuracy of hipfire on it doesn't bother me in itself, in fact I'll probably love the weapon - again.
 
I don't understand the lack of bot-farming hate for Bounty Hunt... It's so worthless, and they even pose a serious threat to pilots =(

Or is it that everyone just wants Attrition instead?

Please keep the Aim Assist on PC for controllers for Titanfall 2.

That is the only way I play the original, with a controller, and the support on that was awesome.
 
I never played the first game so i'm not in the best position to criticize it but i think one of the biggest problem is that most of the maps are too large.

Bounty hunt for exemple is just 5 vs 5 and because the maps are large, i barely encounter enemy players. The majority of the time ì'm running and jumping around rather than fighting. It's like i'm playing battlefield on console all over again.

Just my 2 cents.

Is it safer/more viable to jump out and take the enemy pilot on foot in most cases?
I suppose then you have the advantage of an autopilot Titan right at your side, and they're likely disoriented after jumping off.

I see people complaining about the 3rd person view transition being jarring and taking them out of it, but it seems players online have no trouble popping in and out of their mechs.

It makes sense that it's a quick transition for nabbing stray batteries and such, but when used aggressively it feels...dirty? I guess it was a valid tactic in TF1, and I guess it's valid here, but it must be so hard to balance this stuff. Like people say, odds of rodeo success are already stacked high against the pilots; in their approach, after they're forced to jump off, and now even while in their mandatory animation with that Scorch shield thing.

Also sorry for the dumb question, but how do you perform those Titan finishers? I understand the enemy Titan has to be in critical state, but how do you initiate the move?
 
While I commend respawn for trying to respond to feed back in such a short time, it's clear the game just can't be salvaged at this point. This is so much less of what made titanfall special and so much more of the often joked "cod with mechs". It's ironic that that used to be a weak attack on a stellar new ip, but now It's dead on. It's not necessarily a bad game mind you, it's just not the game I wanted or expected. This is truly a step back from one of the most special multiplayer game I've ever played.

I do agree with that, but.
Getting outside is worthless for me because I use a heavy rifle and suck at first shot accuracy.
 
Well, apparently there's no system in place for afkers. Just got out of a match where we barely won and had a guy who was afk literally the entire game. Spawned in, he stayed there for 2ish minutes until somebody flaked around, saw him in the middle of an open field, and killed him. He spawned in, stood there. It's real annoying.

Otherwise, I hope they move the spawn around more readily in the final release. I've had several games where I keep spawning into the same place despite having the entire enemy team, at least two of which were in titans, within 50 feet.

Also, here's hoping for less open maps. It's super frustrating to be constantly sniped from across the map when I call my titan on homestead. The laser is a bit broken in that regard IMO.

Yeah for sure. I was wondering why it was called a flame shield instead of just a shield.

Some feedback:
- Nerf the mastiff
- I dont like that my ticks glow orange...looks enemy like?
- Hardpoint amping a base. Maybe allow for once its amped, a player doesn't need to camp there to keep it amped. I saw too many times A and C were amped by their respective teams. Leaving only 4 players on each team to fight for B.
 
Played the updated beta today and it definitely feels faster now/movement feels better but overall I'm still not a huge fan of it. The maps (so far) are definitely the weakest element and I'm still not a fan of the battery mechanic, I just don't find it to be particularly great or fun. But that's fine, I'm at peace now with the fact this isn't the sequel I want and I hope Respawn get an audience that enjoys the game. Plenty of other games to play. I'll buy it when it's cheap for the single player next year.
 
Today I finally played for a longer time, experimenting and stuff. I can say that it is an ok game, but it is a disappointing sequel. More than 2 years ago, after playing the first Angel City match in multiplayer beta, I pre-ordered the game, the first and only time I had ever preordered anyting. As it is now, I will not pre-order TF 2. I will elaborate further tomorrow.
