I knocked out everybody I came across and he commented on it. So yeah... must have killed someone by accident?
Is there a list somewhere of all sidequests and how to acquire them? I'd rather not miss any...

First visit starts during the evening I think... The sun is either setting or rising both times when you arrive in Hengsha. Geographically it's hard to say because you can't see Shanghai so it's hard to be sure if you're approaching from the south-east or north-east.
I'm guessing it's setting because foreigners from the upper city only come down to the lower city to go clubbing at night, so it's probably like 7PM when you arrive and then 10PM by the time you go to the Hive. That said, by the time you break into Tai Yong Medical it's day again because the sky is blue.
For your return visit... It may be different. You can see the sun setting or rising as you fly into Hengsha, and it's still on the horizon as you break into the Belltower port. You have a clear view of the ocean from the port where the sun is on the horizon IIRC so it would be rising I guess.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time in there, too. Did you get around to the executive safes and corporate vaults?
This happened to me too, however I believe it is a glitch as
I still got the Pacifist trophy at the end.

Yep. Cleaned them out, deactivated most of the security I could find. Was cool, although I couldn't get into one section that needed a keycard. I assume that will come up later.

One of the tracks on the OST is even called Hengsha Daylight.
But yeah I just double-check, too. Both videos of 'arriving in Hengsha' show the sun on the horizon, and both view from the Belltower dock and Tai Yong Medical balcony you can also see the sun on the horizon. Both visits to Hengsha also have a bright sky visible through the plates (was rather sure that it did at least but but wasn't sure if it really was the same both visits to the city).

Man, I love just how much detail and effort went into the sidequests in this. Better than the main quest IMO. Much better than the snoozefest most of HR's were.
On another note...
Wonder why they decided to ditch the DX1-layout stylized HUD of Human Revolution in favor of a clean and flat redux of Invisible War's HUD for Mankind Divided.

You know, I was just thinking the same thing as I just loaded up DXHR on my PS3 for my other post...
Sort of liked how the the previous HUD was stylized and 'angled' like an optical headset.
Looking at it right now on mt TV, interestingly the aug and weapon huds seem smaller, too (though the energy/health bars are much bigger).

Seems Deus Ex MD on my Steam account is stuck on Update Queued, I've tried restarting Steam and trying to move the game up the queued order to have it download the update but nothing working. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm assuming its a server issue or something.

All of the corporate vaults need their own keycard. Versalife is the one that's actually story-related, and in the main building.

Ok finished the game tonight. Won't spoil in this thread, but I gotta say 10/10, disagree with the complaints in the reviews, this game for me is PURELY between Human Revolution and the Original Deus Ex - modern controls and gameplay systems, but the sandboxy nature of each building and zone is so far ahead of HR. Truly what I wanted from a sequel. Can't wait for the next one.

That's pretty much exactly how I'm feeling.
I think it's still missing the story and atmosphere to match the original game but I'm still absolutely loving it. The level design is some of the best that I've seen from any fps game period

Vampire is Deus Ex transposed into an urban fantasy setting, they all belong to the same family of games.
I think the story in the first game is overly convoluted, but the first game was designed to represent a lot more of everything. Both sequels are much more focused narratives. This one is clearly bridging HR with DE so that's a win in my book. You can see where it's fitting in.
The atmosphere...I mean it's very different, the mechanical apartheid etc feel very real. I thought they did a great job of bringing a sense of oppression to the game. I'm not a minority irl, I've never experienced that, and I think it would be silly to say a game about cyborgs is the best place to tackle those issues, but I felt like it got it 'right' from an outsider perspective - the random police searches are actually super infrequent, but just often enough to make me feel pissed at them for doing it (even if some of them aren't even all that mean while doing it, it's still demeaning),similarly there was a time I took the non-aug train on accident coming back from a mission, and the immediate "WHAT ARE YOU DOING" kind of response when I got off was jarring and shocking. Even when you don't have to, I found myself sticking to the 'aug only' sides of the trains and stations and other areas, just to avoid dealing with the cops. The fact that you can get this sense of degradation without the game really beating you over the head with it (Like, yeah it's always present, so thematically you see it all the time, but mechanically it's not like you literally cannot walk down the street without being stopped, quite the opposite) is impressive to me. For me that's a win, they don't have to resort to shock value in any way, there's no 'real' slur being used, it's not about color of skin or gender or anything, but it still feels oppressive in a real way to me.
The variety in the architecture really helps keep it from being stale even in samey environments too, the Palisades feels NOTHING like Golem City, for example. or even the red light district. This reduces the sting of having less areas to visit compared to the previous games. In those games ALL of HengSha basically looked the same, or ALL of New York, Detroit, etc. You only have Prague (and mission areas etc) here, but the distinct zones and buildings feel quite different to me.

The thing about dx1 is that while the story wasn't that great for the most part, there was a lot of it and it had a strong ending. It kept the pace up fairly well. HR has a more concise story, but it feels very stretched out and thin. Like ten hours of plot in a 20 hour game.
I won't disagree, I just don't think the original's STORY is something to really hold up as like, a beacon of what the game should be. I enjoyed the conspiracy trappings, and the sequels have done well with that also, but Deus Ex jumps all over the place at a rapid pace to cover everything. I mean that game is no longer than HR or MD yet probably has 5-6 times as much plot crammed in (not as much dialogue, just the story jumps quickly). As a teenager when that game first came out, I loved it to death but I couldn't have told you what was going on for the life of me. It's very dense and suffers from RPG fetch quest syndrome where you spend so much time doing sidejobs for people to get information about the main plot, that you forget how it ties together at all if you don't either play it very quickly or pay close attention.

The DX1 story is very engaging. There are a lot of great and memorable moments and characters and it really sucks you in. HR and MD just seem distant because they're trying to have some kind of grand message or metaphor instead of being about you, your brother and your friends. HR actually did a much better job of getting you to connect with the characters than MD

I'm undecided on the game right now and was wondering if you guys could help me here.
How much story is there and is it possible to get through the game without having much action? I like stealth and played the last game that way.
I have checked a few review videos but they don't really specify much on that.

Question on The Harvester sidequest (spoilers):

I exonerated Johnny and Radko. From poking around, I know it's Daria but I wasn't given the option to accuse her. The detective just packed up shop. The quest is no longer in my log. Did I screw something up or will it continue later.

Since I got my performance issues sorted on the PC version I'm really enjoying the game. I'm on hour 22 right now and on the Give Me Deus Ex difficulty and people have to be just trying to speed run the game from the start if they've breezing through this game. That or they're killing everything and everyone that might be an enemy. Yes there are things you can quickly get through but I only notice that in highsight. My first encounters usually take a while as I try to think about the situation I'm in and maybe do a trial run to see if something works or not.
I wish they had gone further with the world interaction though but at the same time I can see how that would have made things unmanageable. I will say though I believe Human Revolution had a far better opening and tutorial experience. I have real issues with what Mankind Divided did at the very beginning of this game by comparison and I can easily see people being turned off and/or frustrated by this game from the jump. It's surprising too becaused once that's done and you're in the game proper you have far more time mess around and learn the controls and how to play the game. In fact the opening mission/tutorial feels completely tacked on and added after the fact.
That's my main complaint at the moment but outside of that I'm loving the experience. I think the overall tone and story feels more serious then I was expecting and I'm glad they're trying ot put weight behind it and aren't shying away from certain things.

Certainly but I think Mankind Divided picks up the baton on Warren Spector's "One City Block" idea which Bloodlines really encapsulated* and takes it even further. That's not really something that any of the other DX games have ever really done. Honestly I think Eidos Montreal should have been a little more upfront with the messaging on Mankind Divided and emphasized this aspect of the game. The tightening of the scale makes this feel quite different from the rest of the series.
*I know that Spector had nothing to do with Bloodlines- I just think it's probably the best realization of the concept that we've seen until Mankind Divided.

I didn't fully ghost my way through everything, but you easily can. There is less 'boss fight' stuff interfereing too, the couple boss type fights I had A) I possibly could've avoided, not sure, and B) were extremely capable of being snuck around/nonlethalled all the same. I put literally 0 points into combat related abilities until I had spare points near the end unless you count the tesla launcher as one, but it's really more of a super stun gun power.
Very satisfying game to sneak in.
It's funny you bring up characters, I do think Deus Ex has memorable characters, but if you think it makes you 'connect' with them where MD doesn't...IDK man that sounds like some nostalgia bias going on. Almost every character in DE besides a few are almost completely disposable, rarely do you interact with any one person more than like twice in that game. It throws so many random folks at you, the only reason I know so many is due to playing it a half dozen times over the years, For every Tracer Tong or Manderlay there's a....the french girl I can't think of her name. Duclair? idk. Or Jock who you KNOW but he really has 0 personality and you barely talk to. Even your brother is barely in the game.

LOL, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who stuck to the aug side. After I killed the cops out of spite I went through the "naturals" gate.

Whelp. I think I glitched my game. As an explorer, I go to places often in games way before I'm supposed to. So in side mission 3
When you were supposed to go check out the apartment Sarif found I had already been there and seen everything. Unfortunately it seems I can now not get the piece of information I need to progress the quest. This is really frustrating as it was an interesting side quest.

So wait, I preordered off steam, and I get a bunch of DL content incl soundtrack?
That's really weird. I've been places before I'm supposed to and when I go back, the new info is there (I'm on my second playthrough.)
Actually, it looks like you completed that part. That quest spans the entire game, and that's the way the mission appears in the quest log until you get the next part later on.
