PS4 Pro specs revealed - 4.2TF, 8GB GDDR5, up to 310W power consumption

I suppose you'll be the person front in line with a big smile, dishing out 500 bucks ever two years. If you're happy with that, then have a blast with the big three companies and their futures.
let people spend their money however they want, actually you do sound mad

Maybe it's just me- but the visuals on display look damn good and that Horizon footage looks quite a bit better than the original PS4 version. That's enough of a reason for me to upgrade.

Hmm, probably going to wait on this until I go for a 4K or decide PSVR is something I want. Was expecting to come out of the meeting with a new pre-order but I dunno doesn't seem necessary yet.

Lewl that presentation was bad, all I got out of it was that Sony wants to sell more over priced 4k TV sets, the whole "behold the power of 4k" when I know damn well it's upscaled, they should have went more into how it betters current 1080p experiences since a whopping 2% own 4k TVs.

The comments along the side were all that kept me entertained.

Ebgames better have a damn good trade up offer otherwise there's not much reason to even bother.

$515+ Canadian for the PS4Bro or $370 for a Gtx1060 lol

I also laughed so hard when it WAS two fucking ps4s stuck on top of eachother LOL!!!!

You know what, if it was marketed as a high end 1080p device this would come off as a damn good deal, but fuck off with the 4k.

Do you remember the exchange (in the Sony E3 thread I think) where a dev said the Pro would have a feature no one knows about?

Any idea what that was supposed to be?

In here the big problem is the 310w and on other topic is the lack of UHD Br.

A $399 4.2tflops console was announced an say that's minor, almost like the xbox S.

It's not upscaled it's just more efficient rendering

If it was more efficient rendering it would actually be rendering at 4k just more efficiently. It's however rendering at whatever the games native res and making it 4k. That's upscaling however you slice it.

Sony biggest mistake was the footage they first showed needed something with hdr and 4k to actually show the difference. Many people didn't see any difference so they were disappointed. I think if they showed Horizon footage first people reaction would have been a bit different.

Yea, too many uninformed comments about the 310w. It's just a max PSU rating

They needed to focus more on the potential benefits of 1080p displays, no question about that.

Looking at the 8GB RX470 which is a ~5TF card that has a power draw of ~133 Watts. The one I looked at has a core clock of 1254Mhz and 2048 shaders so how the fuck does the PS4 pro even need a 310 Watt power supply? A 2304 911mhz Polaris should draw no more than 110 Watts, probably less, the CPU, WiFi, mobile, HDD etc should use less than 50 watts. This is the same ballpark as the OG ps4 so why do they need the beefier power supply? It seems odd to me.

There's a difference between straight upscaling, and the various reconstruction techniques.

I hate that same old power supply max capacity discussion so much! It has been exactly the same since at least the first PS3 revision, on each and every revision...

Calm down folks, the PS4 Pro will not even come close to consuming 310 watts, everything is as it should be.

The fact that you ask this question tells you just how piss poor people's attention and comprehension are.

FTFY.

Aside from the question of UHDBD - which by its omission in the presentation could be inferred to not be included - all the questions about performance on HDTVs was in Cerny's segment, and was clear as day to me.

"Up to 310W"

Gaf: 310 Watts wtf my PC doesn't even used that much.

ignoring the "Up to" part.

GAF Please.

Exactly. I shouldn't even say this but I a bigger movie collector (Standard BD) than a gamer, so I was disappointed with no UHD-Blu-ray playback.

Then I realized this:

PS4 Pro: 4.2 TFLOPS GPU (1 TB) $399

Xbox One S: 1.4 TFLOPS GPU (1 TB) $349

As a gaming machine, there's no comparison! We are in a different league

If someone is a video file they aren't going to be playing there HD discs through a gaming system!

This totally ignores the fact that the PS3 for a long time was the best Blu ray player on the market and was used as a primary player by home theater enthusiasts.

is it native 4k ?

only answer with yes or no

We all know the answer to this. It's not native. Sony is actively telling developers to use checker board rendering and the results are supposed to approximate an image close to 4K. Until we get RAW footage and people scrutinize it, I don't think you'll have your answer as to how much more important it is to have native 4K versus upscaled from 1800p.

310 Watts is not a problem, it's a curiosity. It shouldn't use any more power than the OG PS4 so why the bigger supply, there has to be a reason and I cant see it in the spec sheet.

What could the Pro be doing to be displaying those games at 4K? My 4K set displays 1080p games at an upscale to 4K, but they don't look like that! I wonder how they are doing it.....
