When I switched from the OG PS5 to the Slim PS5, I just moved across the SSD, and I was surprised to see all my games just showed up. So... probably, is the answer to your question.

How so? 7nm to N5 at most i seen it claimed a 30% reduction and on this in depth article its actually only a 20% reduction at same settings
TSMC is touting a 1.8x higher transistor density (~45% area reduction) when compared to the original CLN7FF, but it will only enable a 15% frequency gain (at the same complexity and power) or a 20% power reduction (at the same frequency and complexity). With the CLN5, TSMC will also offer an Extremely Low Threshold Voltage (ELTV) option that will enable its clients to increase frequencies of their chips by 25%
N5 to N4 power efficiency gains arent explicitly mentioned beyond "some performance and power improvements through various BEOL enhancements"

N5 to N4P is another 22% improvement in power efficiency
If my math is right going from N7 to N4P is a 37.6% power reduction (if we assume N7 to N5 is a 20% power reduction) and 45.4% power reduction (if we assume N7 to N5 is a 30% power reduction)

If PS5 Pro is only using N4 then the power efficiency gains will be lower than those mentioned above

I'd have definitely bought one but so many ps5 games are on pc now. I enjoyed the ps4pro boost when I bought it but it doesn't make sense for some of us now.

Some might say it's an extravagant use of the PS4's fast GDDR5 memory, so the extra DDR3 memory in the Pro is used to store non-critical apps, opening up more RAM for game developers.

"On PS4 Pro, we do things differently, when you stop using Netflix, we move it to the slow, conventional gigabyte of DRAM. Using that strategy frees up almost one gigabyte of the eight gigabytes of GDDR5. We use 512MB of that freed up space for games, which is to say that games can use 5.5GB instead of the five and we use most of the rest to make the PS4 Pro interface - meaning what you see when you hit the PS button - at 4K rather than the 1080p it is today."
Isnt this function already covered by SSD on current gen base consoles by suspending unused apps onto a page file on the SSD

Of course it's worth it. No matter how you look at it, it's still a good price/performance ratio.

It is also worth mentioning the convenience of buying a pre-built machine, this is also included in the price.

And since there are still many games that i haven't had the opportunity to check out, i won't have the impression that i'm only paying for a 6TF update.

I know that 0.7 is not enough to round up a full teraflop more. For fuck sake, I know some blokes back home that are rounding these 16.7 Teraflops to 33 Teraflops, because they think FP16 is something worth mentioning. 😂😂😂

Play the games you want to and buy what you want to. Pricing isn't your concern for me. If you don't think PS5 Pro is worth 250 more over PS5 than fine that's your opinion. Mine is that for the amount of money I get a much newer and modernized system. A better GPU, a boost mode, 2 TB storage, 2 extra GB of RAM and upgraded wifi. That's enough for me.

I don't care what hardware is inside what I care about is developers taking advantage of it. Lets have those discussions and not if its worth it.

Switch is a technical albatross and not worth $400 but it has some of the best games I played this generation.

Yes it did / does, but im not buying the Pro with any thought towards 8k. Why we bicker and move goalposts is beyond me. It's a 4k/60 machine and as long as developers adhere to that Im fine with it.

PS this isn't directed at anyone just saying why are fighting over 8k stuff now lol.

You don’t use the better percentage of pixels to rendering performance. 77% more pixels =/= 77% faster rendering.

However, if the PS4 Pro only did 1080p>1440p most of the time, it’s even less than 77% faster.

GR2 and Resogun used a different method - basically it was 2160p with VRS set to 1/4. So shading at 1080p, rendering geometry at 2160p.
GT:S, Knack 1/2 were also 1800 CB, since we're listing the 1st parties.

And then there's the list of titles that did 1440p (Ratchet, Shadow Of Colossus, TLOU, Uncharted 4, TLL etc.), and Spiderman which was DRS (but I don't remember the range).
If we averaged all of the above - 1st parties would actually land below '1440p shaded pixels' - not that it matters as end-results are more important - but for people that equate pixel-counts to GPU performance metrics, PS4Pro was nowhere near 2x.

Having read the detailed breakdown of what NDD did in Uncharted, I wouldn't call it lazy at all.
There were elements of CBR that just weren't possible to hit target performance metrics at 2160p(even 1440p wasn't some 'free lunch' in Uncharted - they had to put work into it) - and they made the choice of 1440p with their AA based on quality achieved - compared to lower CB resolutions (like 1800p).

Because it launched at $399(DE) & $499 (PE). Four years later there should be a substantial price cut not increase.
As far back as August 2021 they claimed the PE no longer selling at loss and the DE had its losses offset by peripherals and PS4
Yes, and then inflation happened.

I'm sharing with you 2024 data, which is obviously after August 2021. Things changed.

Seems all that tech is worth it if you look at it from future proofing angle. We still got a long way to go this gen and games are coming out blurrier than ever (mostly 3rd party). If it was a simple case of rt on 30 / rt off 60 then yeah the pro is not needed. But the hit to res this gen to get to 60 is painful.
