Of course it isn't, they are leading the market and they will keep leading it.
No I'm saying Sony is being complacent. By implying they don't have to be reactive to whats going on with other player in the market just reminds me of the arrogance shown in the past. What they announced yesterday wasn't impressive to me and I know they could have done better. PS4 was a prime example of a more hungry Sony. They went for the better GPU. They went for the GDDR5 ram. Folks can excuse it all they want, but I expected better.

Did you want Pro to be on par with or better than Scorp? No I'm saying Sony is being complacent. Regarding the PlayStation 4 Pro, he suggested the Xbox wasnt even being considered its main competition. Rather, it was the PC. I saw some data that really influenced me, he said. It suggested that theres a dip mid-console lifecycle where the players who want the very best graphical experience will start to migrate to PC, because thats obviously where its to be had. We wanted to keep those people within our eco-system by giving them the very best and very highest [performance quality]. So the net result of those thoughts was PlayStation 4 Pro and, by and large, a graphical approach to game improvement.
There is a bit complacency here, but also a alot of ruthless pragmatism.
No matter what message board warriors claim, Scorpio is not a threat to PS4. The majority of PS4 owners are far too entrenched and the networking effect is too great.
That said. All Microsoft needs is to regain its hardcore, high spending market and bring that back into the fold ready for next gens launch. If they achieve that, the eventual PS5 will have serious momentum problems.
It just seems right now that Microsoft are playing a longer game than Sony.
Yikes OP. I think you might be showing your colors a little too blatantly on this one.
Calling out a quote from more than a decade ago on a wholly unrelated subject is a little embarrassing for a reach.
What exactly is going on with "other players" in the market? No I'm saying Sony is being complacent. Arrogant Sony really are back, aren't they?
I think this is a very interesting insight into their thinking.
Panic from what? What did they have to be panicked about?
the whole PS4 Pro has panic reaction written all over it
...how?
Care to explain how stating the obvious is deemed as arrogance?
Does the ps4 pro at least support 4k video streaming?
Seems like they think they can win it out lke this. May end a costly move in some ways
Why would it be reactive when it was leaked first, clearly in development first, and launching a year earlier, OP?
Try harder, man.
There wasn't much support for dvds when the ps2 released with a dvd drive, there wasn't much support for bluray when the ps3 released with bluray drive.
Its a weak excuse.
But all their other businesses aren't performing terribly.all their other businesses performing terribly and being propped up by Playstation, better to quickly rush out a new Playstation with the only defining feature needing a new TV purchase and a "better with our new VR business" sticker
They are moving from the mentality of asking what consumers want and going with a "Sony knows best" attitude.

Pretty sure Cerny thought this whole thing up the night before PS Meeting yesterday, and they pretty much slapped 2 PS4s together to create the Pro.
They definitely did not plan for this at all and suddenly it blew up in their faces a day later and it's already a failure reaction.
Yup.

I would argue that Sony are playing the longer game, releasing a unit like this instead of a Scorpio like revision so early, so they can focus on a bigger PS4 to PS5 like upgrade later on.
MS seemed like they were most unprepared, announcing a unit a year in advance with specs they hope to take advantage of at that point, but only on paper at this point in order to take some sails out of the competition.
I think coming in early, cheaper and with this approach is a safer bet considering that globally, Sony does far better, so they can afford to essentially experiment with this kind of refresh along side their current unit.
MS is hedging their bets on the power game and will be pushing 6tflops from here till next year, even though it's only a 30% jump

I was hoping it would at least be on par or close. Its not just that though.
Eh, they just gave people folders when they have been asking for that. They are moving from the mentality of asking what consumers want and going with a "Sony knows best" attitude. Also, they aren't taking the competition as seriously.
Book it right now: if they continue on the current path, they will recreate a PS3/Xbox 360 flip in market share next gen.

I was hoping it would at least be on par or close. Its not just that though. Why UHD Bluray? Don't get that one at all. As someone who currently doesn't own a PS4. I was looking to jump all in with PSVR and Neo this holiday. I even can excuse the 4.2TF or whatever, but no UHD bluray bothers me. Its like they are cost cutting on the highend model. What gives.
But all their other businesses aren't performing terribly.
All this leaves Sony with $546m in profit for Q1 2016, but the most interesting thing - and silver lining maybe - is that 78 per cent of this figure came from the PlayStation division.

If it keeps spinning off other parts of its business it'll be more dependent on Playstation.
What's his excuse going to be when it turns up in the PS5 then?
It may be forward thinking, but the sluggish OS isn't impressive. Compatibility with apps I never used even on my surface book doesn't mean much. Some of us just want to play games and that's all. MS is honestly just taking a kitchen sink approach and seeing what sticks.
I'm not just talking about the console.
Pretty much every thing related to Xbox at this moment, from the system OS, to custom accessories, to thee Windows 10 integration, seems far more forward thinking than what Sony is doing.
I don't see the Xbox making anything near a resurgence this gen, but the groundwork is being done to hold on and entice the hardcore market in a way Sony is at best ambivalent about.
Putting it another way. Sony still seems like its in the business of selling boxes. Microsoft has moved to the business of gaining and retaining users.
