The Lightning Dock - Apple's answer to charge and use headphones

The absolute madmen! Wanting to two separate actions on their phone, these guys are thrill seekers. Not to mention they probably even think this should be a free service! God damn lunatics!!!!

If it's that big a deal, don't buy an iPhone. There are hundreds of other phones out there that will fit your needs much better if you need to charge and listen to music at the same time without an add-on.

You'll make it through this tough time. I promise.

I like how they created a solution to a problem they also needlessly created.

Yeah, they totally shouldn't have created this dock years ago like they did.

I could tell from the title this would be an ignorant, troll-infested Apple shit-fest, and boy, I wasn't wrong.

Yes, Apple removed the headphone jack, as has been rumored and basically known for MONTHS. I love how people are still trying so hard to work themselves into a rage about it, even thought they've had so much fucking time to get used to the idea. Don't like it? Deal-breaker? Don't buy the damn phone. Meanwhile, this is no different than all the other transitions that Apple has pushed in the past and which in retrospect were absolutely the right course of action to take, and which enabled better, sleeker, and more reliable and robust products. Is using an adapter 100% ideal? No, but you can never have a perfect transition. Does that mean you should NEVER make changes? That's what I get from this thread. The hatred and viciousness towards Apple is really pathetic.

Phil offered what could be a useful solution to those wanting to charge the phone while using the 3.5mm jack. Apple hasn't gone on a fucking marketing campaign advertising the dock for this purpose. It was a sincere email to a questioner, and it could have very well solved their problem. Apple is not pushing anyone to buy anything. The adapter is included in the fucking box. The dock has been around a long time. Nobody is putting a gun to your heads and forcing you to smash you current iPhones and run out to buy the 7. The 6S is still a beast, and an excellent phone. And for those of you who DO get the 7, all your headphones will ALSO work on it, right out of the box. It's a product positioned for the future, just like Apple has done countless of times in the past. And each time, we hear the same angry whining from the same kinds of entitled people who are unwilling to look 2 feet beyond their own noses. In a year almost all headphones will have lightning versions and this will be a complete non-issue.

But feel free to spend your energy in the meantime pretending that Apple has taken infringed on your human rights, just like every other fucking time Apple has made a change for the better, and were followed by the rest of the industry in short order. Whether it's optical drives, or Flash, or removal batteries, it's the same predictable, short-sighted shit each time. And, given time, Apple has been proven right in pretty much every single instance. Not that anyone here would actually admit that, as obvious as it is.

No, they just happen to have a solution for lunatics that inexplicably want to charge their phone and also listen to audio at the same time.

It's an easy solution to make sure that people don't try to use the Pencil or Magic Mouse while charging, because you really would never need to. Both can be charged to a useable state in literal minutes (if not seconds in the case of the Pencil specifically).

Lol lunatics like people who are out all day and charge via portable battery or charge and play in their cars... lunatics

So, a genuine question here: Why is Apple still in business?

Yeah. Why is a company, that sets the bar for every phone, still in business.

qaNccL6l.jpg

I don't get the iPad picture.

I use headphones (for music) and charge (for maps/GPS) while driving, so this is disappointing

With all due respect, you shouldn't be wearing fucking headphones while driving. It's dangerous, and makes you unable to hear important outside noises.

I think most people under estimate how frequent people actually perform this action. I can see two lunatics from my seat in the train right now. Should I let them know they are crazy?

Please show me in the post you quoted where I called anyone a lunatic.

I simply said that there are hundreds of other options for you if this is such a deal breaker. There's no need to be so angry.

I love threads where nearly 100% of the first 50 posts are people shitting all over Apple's overpriced badly designed idiot crap. Every time I see an announcement for new Apple products, all I see are hassles to using hardware and programs that are easily used on other systems and cost less money.

So, a genuine question here: Why is Apple still in business?

Because clearly biased, agenda-driven trolls like you don't dictate Apple's business- hundreds of millions of other people do.

Apple is the most successful company on the planet, in the most competitive industry on the planet, with their products having on average the highest reviews, customer satisfaction ratings, and sales- but in your opinion they make "overpriced badly designed idiot crap".

I wonder who's in the right, you or Apple? Gee, I'll have to sleep on that one. Because everyone who buys an Apple product is a fucking moron, and every reviewer who give their products excellent scores are paid off, right? It's just a huge conspiracy that only you can see through. Meanwhile, pretty much every aspect of your favorite device (maybe the exploding Note 7?) is no doubt influenced a thousand ways by Apple's products, but you're too ignorant or intellectually dishonest to admit that. You will also never give them a shred of credit for their multitudes of successes, because that's how trolls are.

A lot of people who had no interest in iPhones or Apple devices seem real concerned about what other people buy.

I'm curious. What's their setup? Headphones plugged into phone, and lightning cable plugged into the train's wall outlet?

If this is a really frequent use for people and a deal breaker I guess we'll find out this holiday.

They hate it when those sheeple buy products they enjoy.

Agh damn I would so buy this if I was courageous enough to stay iPhone instead of switching to Android. :(

Stanning yourself into a meltdown 101

I7 looks dope and is definitely worth a look but losing the headphone jack is fucking stupid and indefensible. It's a money grab

I'm continuing a joke based on Pops calling anyone who did this a "lunatic" like two posts above yours.

I'm also ignoring your sage "don't like it? Buy another phone" nonsense because if this was their corporate strategy they wouldn't exist because that's the dumbest idea for consumer marketing I've ever heard. It would take real courage to tell people to not buy your product straight up.

Sorry, how is it a money grab? What will the average person who buys an iPhone 7 be forced to buy after they open the box? All their headphones will fucking work with the free adapter included, and the lightning earpods are included also. Please, elaborate on this "money-grab". Don't use throw out words cause they sound cool, and bashing Apple is cool.

Oh, and Apple silently doubled all their storage capacities on all their new and old iOS products. I guess that's also a money grab?

Never heard of an aux in for a car before? Many older vehicles have them. Not every car has a usb cable to do both at the same time...

Of course, but I've seen several people (namely the user he quoted) mentioning they use their headphones while driving, that's all.

I'm not talking about corporate strategy. I'm talking about people posting these rage-filled posts about how stupid and shitty stupid Apple are for removing stupid headphone jacks and they're ugly and dumb too.

With that kind of effort put into being angry about something (and let's face it, a number of the people complaining are the typical anti-Apple crowd anyway, who are more interested in ginning up "anger" than they are actually addressing something that would affect them), why not just move on and spend that time searching for a new phone? Speak with your wallet. It's silly to just keep posting tired "courage" memes and screaming until you shit your pants. Nothing is worth that much hate.

When your homies pass you the aux... but you got that iPhone 7.

I'll still be up at 3 to get my Apple upgrade.

I mean, if the iPhone switched to USB Type-C, they could have established some kind of non-Lightning standard alongside the other Android phones.

Air pods are almost assuredly going to be low end sound. All I've heardis they are the old Apple ear buds aka shit only wireless

It is a bit of an oversight for the VP of Worldwide Marketing to not mention the Beats line, but then again, he just said what he likes.

Stans like you were defending this shit the minute the rumors came out and trying to shut down the conversation. Now that the confirmation is 100% set in stone you assume everyone should've already gotten over it? Did you at any point even listen and try to understand the complaints? Because it's pretty clear you haven't.

Phil offered what could be a useful solution to those wanting to charge the phone while using the 3.5mm jack. Apple hasn't gone on a fucking marketing campaign advertising the dock for this purpose. Yes, it could've "solved their problem"...the problem that Apple created on their own through a completely unforced error. Telling people "Just use the old phone" is essentially pulling the "we have a product for people who don't have online: it's called the Xbox 360". And we all know how that worked out.

And this here is the real issue with stanning. No, the removal of the headphone jack isn't a violation of the geneva conventions. However, this argument can be used for literally anything they do or could do in the future. After all, these are luxury devices and save for texting and calling functionality, absolutely nothing on the phone is "necessary". If you enter the conversation with an approach this simplistic, of course you can excuse anything Apple does. It's the convenient ticket to pull the "Apple can do no wrong" argument. Because nothing is necessary, nothing is therefore a dealbreaker, so anyone complaining about it is [insert derogatory handwaving bullshit here] (examples: entitled, whiny, childish, bratty, spoiled, etc. etc. etc.)

I'm not talking about corporate strategy. I'm talking about people posting these rage-filled posts about how stupid and shitty stupid Apple are for removing stupid headphone jacks and they're ugly and dumb too.

"Just don't buy it" is not a magical shield to shut down conversations about complaints you don't want to hear. I'm already not buying it. Am I automatically not allowed to ever comment on it? Are people who ARE buying it not allowed to ever comment on it because they're buying it?

Consumers have more choices other than "buy" or "not buy". Contrary to what some may wish, consumers can and will criticize decisions they deem poor. If you really can't stand having these conversations you are always free to remove yourself from them.

Complain little and "the market has spoken! X dumb thing Apple did turned out to be a smart thing!"
Complain a lot and it's "y'all haters just wanna manufacture outrage for some reason! Just don't buy it and move on!"

You are willingly refusing to have any scenario in your head where the complaints are listened to and given their proper time of day.

I may be an apple fanboy, but:

1) not going to comment on current situation
2) The point o date mouse port being underneath, in my opinion, is to DELIBERATELY prevent you using it as a "wired" mouse. Unlike the trackpad and keyboard, the mouse moves around. The cables aren't meant to with stand that kind of motion.
3) inelegant, no doubt, but convenient to be able to charge your pencil from the iPad. If you hate it, just use a charger. Perhaps in future iterations it will use induction charging like the watch and airpots. We'll get there I think.
4)USB-C hub isn't apple design, but we all know the goal of the macbook, which is to be as few ports as possible. IF you need ports, and many people do, the macbook isn't the right machine for you.
5)The battery pack DOES look ugly, but in person, it's actually super nice. it still feels like you've got a thin phone. I think it's one of the rare examples where Apple has actually made a product skewed heavily towards function and less form. And they get a ton of flak for it.

I haven't really kept up with apple products lately but lol at removing something completely standard and offering only a proprietary solution. Sad thing? People will buy it, so why wouldn't they?

Who in the hell wants to always have an adapter in reach, in addition to a charger (that you can't use simultaneously out of the box) and a pair of headphones?

Apple will clean up off air pods and additional licensing fees from companies like Belkin who will pay for certification.

Honestly, and I don't mean to give you shit, you need to take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself how you can be so blindly passionate and delusional about a corporation you aren't even a part of. It's scary
