1. The vast majority of people who listen to music on their iPhone 7 will be using the included headphones with no adapter. This is a temporary solution and has nothing to do with "design"

2. The mouse lasts at least 3 months on a charge, and takes like 1/2hr to charge fully. So, a couple times a year, you'l throw the mouse on its back and plug in the cable before bed. Wow, the absolute horror. Small price to pay for what is the most ideal place for the port, on both an engineering and aesthetic level. Not like the mouse is used, or displayed this way, even a tiny fraction of the time.

3. I own a Macbook, use it heavily and never in a fucking million years would I need to do that. I've also witnessed this laptop being used hundreds of times, in a shitload of places, and not once have I seen such an adapter plugged in. Yes, there MIGHT be a scenario where this is required, and it IS possible to do, so lets make an image out of it and pretend that this is how the product is expected to be used, or is actually used. For sticking in that many things, you would need a hub on MOST laptops on the market today, even port-heavy ones.

4. Uh, you can also charge the pen by sticking it to a lightning cable. This is a secondary charging method, if you need a quick charge, and is in no way required to use. It is, however, convenient, and logical, and the pen could be charged this way. Doesn't mean you should stick the pencil in and leave it lying around like that in random places. But yeah, Apple should have made this charging method impossible, so that they can't be shit on with such memes.

5. Every battery pack has a bulge- some take up the entire dimensions of the device, some are at the bottom, some are at the top. Apple's solution tends to be in the middle, and I guess this is subjective, but I don't see it as looking worse than any other battery pack. And functionally, it's better than anything else out there.

So, five photos which are meant to provide some kind of theme, but which in reality are intellectually dishonest, misleading, and trollish. One can make the exact same set of photos for any other tech product. But, a perfect photo for a narrow-minded whine and troll fest like this thread.

Meanwhile, this is no different than all the other transitions that Apple has pushed in the past and which in retrospect were absolutely the right course of action to take, and which enabled better, sleeker, and more reliable and robust products. Is using an adapter 100% ideal? No, but you can never have a perfect transition. Does that mean you should NEVER make changes? That's what I get from this thread. The hatred and viciousness towards Apple is really pathetic.

Phil offered what could be a useful solution to those wanting to charge the phone while using the 3.5mm jack. Apple hasn't gone on a fucking marketing campaign advertising the dock for this purpose. It was a sincere email to a questioner, and it could have very well solved their problem. Apple is not pushing anyone to buy anything. The adapter is included in the fucking box. The dock has been around a long time. Nobody is putting a gun to your heads and forcing you to smash you current iPhones and run out to buy the 7. The 6S is still a beast, and an excellent phone. And for those of you who DO get the 7, all your headphones will ALSO work on it, right out of the box. It's a product positioned for the future, just like Apple has done countless of times in the past. And each time, we hear the same angry whining from the same kinds of entitled people who are unwilling to look 2 feet beyond their own noses. In a year almost all headphones will have lightning versions and this will be a complete non-issue.

But feel free to spend your energy in the meantime pretending that Apple has taken infringed on your human rights, just like every other fucking time Apple has made a change for the better, and were followed by the rest of the industry in short order. Whether it's optical drives, or Flash, or removal batteries, it's the same predictable, short-sighted shit each time. And, given time, Apple has been proven right in pretty much every single instance. Not that anyone here would actually admit that, as obvious as it is.

Lol, nobody is licensing Lightning. Only Apple has it. If anything, Apple will need to move over to USBC.

And most of those transitions "Apple pushed" were because 1) they were on an upgrade or die cycle anyway and 2) they pushed the transition after the format was already dead. The floppy drive thing is revisionist history, even MSDOS and Windows games were shipping standard on CD for years when they dropped the drive.

You can stick that hub into ANY laptop, or desktop, and it would look like shit. So, what's the point of that photo? That makes the design of the Macbook "terrible"? It's an easy solution to make sure that people don't try to use the Pencil or Magic Mouse while charging, because you really would never need to. Both can be charged to a useable state in literal minutes (if not seconds in the case of the Pencil specifically).

The design of the hub is terrible because it has all the ports sticking out every which way. Obviously nobody is complaining that a hub is letting you plug in several things at the same time. That's the point of hubs in general. The complaint about this specific hub is about this specific layout of ports.

There's always a design reason why something ugly and inelegant ends up being that way. I'm a Surface Pro user, I'm pretty well versed in shitty design decisions that, according to their designers, totally have a legit reason to be that way. You can follow the trajectory of the designers struggling to figure out what the fuck to do with the stylus to the device, for instance. For two years it's attached to the same port as the charger. The next model you attached it via a little flap attached to the keyboard. This year they're attached via a magnetic strip on the side. All kinda "eh", kinda functional, not at all optimal solutions. All perfectly "valid" reasons if you explain them away.

Bad design is bad design, even if there's a reason why it's designed that way. In fact, it's not "if", there's ALWAYS a good reason why bad designs turn out that way. Hardware designers aren't complete idiots no matter what company the designs come out of. I'm critical of Apple's poor design choices just as much as Microsoft's and just as much as Samsung's. It's more concerning coming from Apple considering simple, elegant and form + function designs have been their thing for such a long time.

Apples wiring and chords have always been really cheap and easy to fray I've found. I can see them discouraging using them in ways that cause bend and stress because of that. But it's still not a really good design reason, IMO. It's just justification to keep using the thinner cheaper material which also breaks faster which increases turnover rate.

So you have your headphones plugged in, and charge your phone simultaneously, 24 hrs a day? You can't, oh I don't know, find a tiny window in the day to charge your phone without headphones in your ears? The iPhone 7 should have great battery life, it shouldn't need to be stuck in a charger most of the day. If you start the morning with it charged, in extreme situations you should need at most to stick charge it for 1/2 hr tops at any other point during the day, if at all.

So sorry, I don't buy your predicament. These use-cases and scenarios seem absurd and ridiculous, cobbled together only to bash Apple, and not something that normal human beings would have an issue with. It's not about liking or not liking. It's about seeing if there's any real merit to the fake outrage people are displaying, and their fake reasons for the outrage. In all probability this change will have a near zero effect on your life.

Maybe because i'm not 100% in the market for a 7 ( i do want it though), but I will likely get an iPhone in future at some point, and most likely it won't have a headphone port. I have to move on.

Am i forced to? yeah, i guess so.

So am I part of the problem, letting companies give me the shaft and just taking it? Guess it depends on your perspective. I usually just see it as I'm not big on complaining about things.

So you have your headphones plugged in, and charge your phone simultaneously, 24 hrs a day? You can't, oh I don't know, find a tiny window in the day to charge your phone without headphones in your ears? The iPhone 7 should have great battery life, it shouldn't need to be stuck in a charger most of the day. If you start the morning with it charged, in extreme situations you should need at most to stick charge it for 1/2 hr tops at any other point during the day, if at all.

So sorry, I don't buy your predicament. These use-cases and scenarios seem absurd and ridiculous, cobbled together only to bash Apple, and not something that normal human beings would have an issue with. It's not about liking or not liking. It's about seeing if there's any real merit to the fake outrage people are displaying, and their fake reasons for the outrage. In all probability this change will have a near zero effect on your life.

So first it was "why can't you give me an example" now it's "No your example is stupid, you're stupid".

Yeah this is going nowhere and I'm sorry people are being so mean in a thread on an internet forum to a company that makes billions upon billions of dollars. Truly I weep for the poor souls at Apple that I'm critical of a design change because it negatively impacts me if I were to buy one.

If you don't know yourself, what you want exactly conclude with your post, what exactly does this say about you telling me to reread your post? I mean I'm not even outraged. I legitimately don't care. It's just a design flaw to me, as a user, because it would negatively impact me.

But I really need to stress, that I really don't care, because I'm not buying an Iphone anyway because my LG is still working and I really don't like replacing phones anyway.
