Final Fantasy XV TGS 2016 Trailer

It's not a preformed narrative. She sits in a chair during her debut trailer, gets knocked around in two other trailers, and spends the entirety of Kingsglaive as a damsel in distress in need of saving.

This is a selective interpretation of what will amount to ~3% of the game, Kingslaive had shit characterization almost across the board (Noctis >>> Nyx - all the talk about people preferring Nyx is absolutely insane to me), and even there, Luna was among the better characters, damsel in distress or no.

So I wouldn't call this a good grounding for the narrative. The main problem with this debate is that ambiguous words like 'strong' and 'weak' are being thrown around without being given the slightest amount of definition. Does she have to be a good fighter? Does she need to have an active role in the story? Is she allowed to be vulnerable in the face of a vast evil empire? Seriously, this is what gives the "Luna seems weak" narrative a preformed feel: not only is the evidence for it fairly scant, but the metrics people are judging her character against seem completely arbitrary.

Also, goddamn. Since when did Noct have emotions? From being on the verge of falling asleep 24/7 to shouting 70% of the time he speaks.

Loved the trailer, though.

Sooo good.

*Leaves back out of thread because the same nonsense is occurring judging by this one page

Haha yeah I'll be here now and then to see how this thread goes till the next one pops up which is the ATR.

FFXV threads are one of a kind and it's neither good or bad, but thinking makes it so.

*hehe

Trailer was sort of boring. Shiva sisters feel reminiscent of nymph spirits, that's pretty cool.

Another detail that stood out...

Leviathan & Bahamut?

Yes, it has been pretty much established that this is Bahamaut. So he will be in the game but I don't think as a Summon, more as a key character.

Are you kidding me with that trailer? They literally recycled 80% of the content we've seen before.

I'm so confused. Why do they play an epic track like Omnis Lacrima over a few guys just talking casually in a beach resort? What?

Right, If the leaks continue to have any sort of weight to them of
Gentiana being Leviathan in human form, then is Ardyn Bahamut?

Whoever keeps cutting the XV trailers is doing a terrible job.

Ben Moore of Easy Allies is at TGS and got play the latest build and said it ran very well. Made him extremely excited. Quite the turn around cause he was worried for the game after playing it some time before E3.

He played the OG PS4 version

Leaks say she was
Shiva
Right. Which is why I am not sure why people keep bringing back the leaks. Almost every leak had majority of the stuff wrong in one way or another, this also includes the good ones.

That aside, the game looks good so far which is more than what I can say for FFXIII.

P.S regarding the beginning of the trailer
It looks like Noctis is frozen in the crystal and perhaps that is where he will gain some powers as said by Ardyn voiceover and also the moment when we will get the time skip to 10 years

I agree. The trailer looked like the guy who edited Kingsglaive cut it. The gameplay segments, especially, were terribly edited. We had the gameplay segments showing chocobo ride, car, airship and train, good so far. Then suddenly we get the summon and this is a rather abrupt edit with Ramuh followed by Leviathan, Shiva and suddenly cut to an attack Titan. Why not just show all the Summons in a proper way.

Honestly the trailer could have been made with a better editing but I don't think SE is giving Tabata any budget for CGI unlike Nomura :P

Putting all my usual skepticism aside, I'm really surprised how people react positively to a supposedly launch trailer with barely anything new or contains any exciting set pieces like what we had in E3 2013 trailer. A lot, a lot of footage are already found in previous demos or trailers. Also Luna is hardly in the video, we don't get see to her do damn anything new aside from getting slapped by the main villain, WHILE Final Fantasy main theme is playing in the background. Holy shit I'm crying at this editing.

I think that was actually my first time hearing Luna's japanese voice and I don't know if it's because I now associate Lena Headey with the role but my god that was nails-on-a-chalkboard bad.

Yea it's shitty. I'm one of the few who defend this game a lot but i can't see how this trailer could get anyone excited.

E3 2013 trailer is all pre-rendered stuff so why do you keep going back to it? =/

It is clear from what we have seen that it was simply not possible on the current generation hardware. It is hardly struggling as it is.

I like the fact that they have used real-time footage for every trailer and only show stuff that is actually possible in the game. I'd rather take this than whatever Nomura promises in his game. I mean the KH1 secret ending in KH2 was cool but all it had was a bunch of QTEs. Same for the final fight of KH2.

Game looks pretty good now, hopefully that's the OG PS4 version.

The trailer itself sucked tho imo, felt like they edited it pretty poorly.

I can't tell at this point if they're hiding almost everything or if the plot is super, super straightforward.
The basic of the plot is straightforward as it is. There is nothing more to it, atleast to me. This has got me excited as I hate complicated nonsense.

But it is the journey to the ending that counts. Which still remains a mystery. How do we get each of the summon? Is there any twist, betrayal, villain red herring? What happens to the character and what about their fate by the end of the game? As we play the game, we will be attached to the characters and it would be great if the game has a satisfying end unlike FFX/XII/XIII.

Maybe they don't have great material to work with :^)

Seriously that was a dull trailer
That's not true. They have the footage to make a great trailer. We have seen glimpses of it in the other trailers, e.g the bird fight with Zuu and the huge beasts like the Adamtoise. But they aren't showing it for some reason.

Yikes - the first few seconds are pretty much a spoiler for who the main villain is right?

Still - cant wait to get dis game :)

I got excited :)

Really wanted a story focused trailer, and this is it. Okay, it lacked more "epic moments/gameplay setpieces" (same old Titan fight and more Duscae again lol) but overall it's a great video. And the game itself looks so pretty.

This is much better than Afrojack's E3 trailer.

There's actually a total of 5 Shivas in this scene, 4 in this shot. So it's possible they're just clones and not multiple beings.

And I know mods always say we don't want things to become an echo chamber, but don't all these threads pretty much turn into one? Not just of a one sided view, but rather an echo chamber of both sides yelling without any real discussion? (But personally I'm biased and I only see one side dismissing any argument another side has)

Some people have some opinions that look like they won't change no matter what for better or worse.

Leviathan & Bahamut?

Yes, I thought that was always obvious since they revealed the painting.

But I guess some people still think there's Diablos and Siren or some other crazy stuff.

Siren is not in the game or even a fish / mermaid! She's a trash tier summon FFS. Diablos is not much better compared to Bahamut.

I was hoping Luna would be like Guts from Berserk in a way. She takes alotta suffering but is crazy strong. It will be a damn shame if she doesn't send Arydn flying to hell after she slapped her. It also doesn't help that she was slapped around when she was a kid too... she just can't take a break. Meanwhile, her husband is busy riding around in a car trying to find out where's daddy.

Almost all the material was new to me, the trailer had a nice narrative arc (things go wrong, we see the beginning of Noctis' growth, we settle into the adventure and get a glimpse of the things to come), the music continues to be great, and the game looked good.

i.e., different opinions, I guess? For me, it was the most impactful FFXV trailer in some time. I think it helps to be excited for the game in the first place.

Pre-rendered footage isn't needed to make a good trailer, though. I think this trailer would be stronger if there was better transitioning between scenes and Omnis Lacrima wasn't playing over all the characters talking to each other.

I don't think the problem with the recent FFXV trailers is the ingame footage. I think the problem is that whoever is cutting the trailers is doing a poor job of presenting the footage they've been given to work with.

I still cannot get over the fact that I find Noctis's design to be bad, but I do like he other 3 companions.

Almost feels like he's stuck between the uncanny valley of trendy/stylish and last season.

jesus christ stop using a PRE-RENDERED trailer as comparison

nothing of that was real

all

bullshit

There was plenty new without spoiling endgame stuff, pls.

E3 2013 had everything new because they hadn't shown anything yet back then. It's now 3 years after that with 2,5 months of marketing left.
