The mayor just confirmed that the new law about police video needing a court order to be released doesn't go into effect until 10/1. She left it at that.

That thing is smaller than the officer's heal. If it's a gun, it's a tiny handbag gun or something. Nothing a cop with a vest should really be afraid of.
Holy shit, this might be the most ignorant thing I've seen in this thread.

Even worse than "I'm the blackest".

Seriously......what???

wtf%20(2).gif

What, it's smaller than a pack of cigarettes? Sure it can be dangerous, but not to the point where a cop freaks out and shoots someone over. I've always heard that little .22 pistols weren't much more powerful than a bb gun.

First Google result for .22 gun deaths. "“Harmless” .22 calibre Rabbit Rifles
Kill More People Than Any Other Type of Gun"

Edit: to be fair depends on the gun. Still, a gun pointed at you is a gun (IF he actually point it at the police).

.......it's a goddamn fucking gun for Christ's sake.

Those are .22 rifles.

Okay, fine. Cops should treat every gun like it's an assault rifle.

In regards to the second quote. IF he point it at the police, you get shot. Period. You point a gun at a cop you get shot. What we don't know is if he did or not. We need the video to know what really happened. Is this Tulsa or did he confront the police. We have no idea unless the video is released.

Looks like a revolver to me. The small part that's dark is just the handle. There's a reddish/brown part pointing away that looks like the barrel.

I agree with you. However, and this is not in defense of cops going trigger happy, but IF he even has the gun in his hands cops have no way of knowing what is going through his head or how fast the gun could be pointed at them. He should have never had the gun in his hands (if this is what the video ends up showing) while having ANY interaction with the cops.

This isn't judge dread. Not long ago cops wouldn't shoot first. They would try many descalation tactics first. Most news reports of a police shooting would include a statement that the perp started firing and they took him down. Now it's just "he had a gun, I was scared".

.
The idea of defying a cop while holding a gun in your hand seems completely beyond the pale for me. (Owning a gun period is fucking crazy)

I just can’t get my head around not following the instructions of someone pointing a gun at you. Police or not.

Yes. This isn't a movie. If you raise a gun at a cop he opens fire. There has never been a time where cops would let you get a few shots off first. You can't seriously believe this.

A man who was at the protest claims that the civilian was shot by an officer and things escalated afterwards. Shaun King shared the post if interested.

Woke up and checked the news: reporters being attacked, a civilian shooting and the national guard being called.... Yeah that's enough over the pond news for today I really don't need to watch this cycle again.

Conflicting Reports. Some say it was a civilian that shot another civilian.

OK, fine, move it to Duke.

Duke hosted the Rose Bowl one year during WW2, they have experience in these things. Still have the same stadium, too, and much of the same staff (I can't back that last part up).

IF they are going to do anything other than massively increase security, they'd:
A - Make it a 0 attendance game like the Orioles-White Sox from last year
B - Move it to Clemson since the Panthers originally played there, and it's closer

There is now video regarding the civilian who was shot.

Victim was hit in the head with a rubber bullet or tear gas canister.

Edit : I don't know how to link to fb videos.

It's so hard to know exactly what's going on. I guess we wait for exact reports. Witnesses are saying very different things.

Dude on CNN sayin some really weird shit. Saying Charlotte is going to become the next Dallas/Baton Rouge/ect. Not exactly cool to incite that.

Edit : Fuck me I really wish I wouldn't have watched that video

You mean like when these guys did all of that, including holding guns, pointing guns, threatening with guns...

Well, it's definitely the direction we're heading in. Since the government doesn't seem to actually want to do any real reform this is going to be the natural outcome.

Witness account of what happened. He says he helped treat the man who was hit.

Here is pretty much what happened after his video ended. Similar to the one posted above, but full length. Bodies are blurred in this one for anyone worried about seeing anything too graphic. That "witness account" says they started unloading on the crowd, but you can see in this video they all have batons in hand and are standing there. The gunshots came from within the crowd somewhere else.

Going to be expensive for NC after all these businesses and events pulled out too. Hope the governor is squirming.

I dont get it. If the video shows the cops did the right thing. they could end this all by releasing it.

Ive been away from charlotte for a week so im not sure whats the full story.

Show the video.

Holy shit CNN just showed graphic video of a guy who was shot(?) at the protests and you could see the blood pour down the street from his body, horrific. What the hell happened?

They have to make sure procedure is followed. If you release evidence improperly it can compromise an investigation. Something is supposed to be shown tomorrow, but to who I don't know.

Here's an interesting caveat regarding footage:
This is the sixth time in the past year that Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers have been involved in the fatal shooting of a civilian, according to police data. The district attorney found police to be justified in the five previous killings, according to local news channel WSOC-9.

All of the department’s officers began wearing body cameras a year ago. Three of four fatal shootings that happened from September 2015 to May weren’t captured on cameras. It’s unclear if a June 3 shooting was filmed by the department’s body cameras.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s tactical and SWAT units do not wear body cameras, the Charlotte Observer reported.
Since it looks like a plain clothes cop carried this out, I'm wondering if he was even wearing a camera.

Okay so what exactly is happening at Charltote now? I heard something in the news about protests and whatnot, but not having acess to 24/7 US based news I'm sorta confused about it.

Angry mob? Which apparently forced the police to take action on them? Is this because of the recent cases of black people killed by cops?

Was wondering if the NASCAR Hall of Fame was going to be hit, was there a couple months ago and despite me having a marginal interest in the sport there's a lot of cool stuff in it. Wonder how things like the display of historic cars that are in plain, easy view of the street held up.

Thank you. Some sense in this thread. Until the video is released everything is hearsay and 100% unreliable FROM BOTH SIDES. People don't seem to get that.

Tulsa looks like 100% murder (probably inexperience/fear but still murder) while this case is completely unknown until we get real facts.

I haven't said shit in this thread about the incident. Who is guilty and who I havent commented on because without a video I don't believe anything being said by anyone. So please miss me with this "both sides", "the guy inventing scenarios of justification is reasonable bullshit".

I see you.

There were multiple cops there when it happened, so I'd say the odds are in the favor of there being a body camera on at least one of them.
They confirmed the officer who shot didn't and the footage is from the other officers' cameras.
Ok, good. So no excuse then.
Hardly think they'll release it. Seems like they wanna drag it out until you need a court order to get it.
If they don't release the footage, or claim some bullshit like the footage is "missing" or "cameras malfunctioned", I'm inclined not to believe a word they say.
