I told Windows to download it, and it grabbed a 4 MB file that said I was too early to play, lol.

There's no Xbox code. When you redeem on the Nvidia website with your Xbox email, it is automatically added to your account.

These codes may be coming from companies who build computers for large businesses, and may just have codes from their GTX video cards for Gears 4. A lot of computers = a lot of codes

There's people already selling tons of codes for $3 and $5, so it's not unthinkable that there's fraudulent keys out there, that might get revoked.
Usually these kind of codes go for like $30+ and game isn't even out.
