Civilization 6 announced, out October 21st

It doesn't go into much detail about the game itself, but TB talks more about what he thinks of it and how it compares to previous launches of the franchise. And his opinion is surprisingly glowing actually, he's really liking it more than he expected to seeing how it's "vanilla" Civ 6.

I've not heard anyone complain about the game so far, except for maybe the AI being too easy?
 
AI seems like the main complaint. Which is unfortunately pretty par for the course in Civ. Hopefully Firaxis is working away at improving that area of the game in the next month.

Some people have complained about so many modern quotes? Seems pretty silly to me.
 
Looking at the tech and civic trees, is it me or does Civ 6 delves into the future even less than its predecessors? It's pretty much ends at where we are today.

What was in the base game of civ V that was more future like, the only thing I can think of is that mech robot, if you want more future tech, post beyond earth

No need to be snappy. It's fun to build up a civilization and then end up at a point where it's doing semi futuristic stuff.
 
Civ has never really attempted to stray too far from contemporary times in its modern era progression outside of the spaceship itself. Even in civ 5 the only real future tech goodies we got to play with were Giant Death Robots and Xcom Squads, which are a joke unit and a crossover easter egg that wasn't even in the original release respectively.
 
How Civilization 6's fantastic music evolves through the eras (PC Gamer)

Pretty awesome, but I find it hard to believe that the "Theme" song to the whole game will be the American theme.

That is because Christopher Tin, who composed Civ IV's Baba Yetu, confirmed that he was doing the music, but also the description he gave a while back for what the Civ VI theme represents, doesn't sound like he intended to use something American focused.

Which makes me question what the Theme might actually be. It was played in London as part of one of his concerts but I don't think it has been revealed yet.

Edit - Actually I can confirm PC gamer is incorrect - Christopher Tin suggests there are Italian Lyrics to the Civ VI theme

Is this talking about the "base" music or the theme song? Because the video is making it sound like this is the game's Baba Yetu, and I thought we already knew the theme was Sogno di Volare?

PC Gamer are completely wrong on that front. They are right that it seems each country has a core theme that evolves through the ages - but this is not true of the theme.

Christopher Tin (who composed Baba Yetu) is doing Civ VI composition. He says himself it has Italian Lyrics

"Wanna know where I got the Italian lyrics for the new Civ VI theme? They're from the Leonardo da Vinci quote that Leonard Nimoy recites when you discover Flight as a technology in Civ IV: "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.""

Frankly what Christopher Tin describes sounds a whole lot more fitting

Yeah, that's what I thought. An Italian piece called Sogno di Volare, which if I remember correctly, he's actually done live in London.

Still, the thing about the country's music evolving through the centuries is pretty neat.

Oh yeah, its absolutely awesome. Just a shame PC Gamer are confusing matters. I really want to hear the new theme. Was gutted I couldn't make the performance in London

Yeah same, it's a good choice. It will be really great to hear that evolution of each theme for each Civ you are playing against, particularly in the longer games.

Yeah, I'm a glutten for Epic games for some reason, and I tend to go for larger maps, but with fewer civs because of the fact that turns can get pretty bogged down by late game with too many.

Does this build have all the game features in it? Like game customization? Did they provide greater control over setting things up? I often would use mods in Civ V that limited the game to the Renaissance and such.

I also wonder if we'll get more scenarios from the start this time around. I loved all the different ones in Civ IV, but was rather let down by the pretty subpar ones in V. The period specific and historical settings were great to play around in and Civ V didn't really do very well with that stuff. The Steampunk setting was pretty great, but that was about it.

Nope. One difficulty, two game speeds, three landmass types. Only 10 of the Civs available.
 
I'm very happy with the role that the geography of the map has driving the majority of the decision making. Much more so it appears than in previous iterations.
 
Al these positive previews are making it hard not to bite.

But I promised myself I'll never pay £49.99 for a PC game. Especially when it's going to have a bunch of expansions.

Help me stay strong Neogaf.
 
Looks like the pc gamer video put an update in the description about the theme song confusion. At any rate this is amazing on so many levels, can't wait.

any chance they are hiding future tech stuff from the tech tree? I really hate how the information age basically has nothing, I'd like to see them actually guess on some 100+ year tech just to make the end game even more fun.

Yep. It throws out so much of the conventional wisdom of largely static Civ starting builds. Now your builds are much more reactive depending on the geography for district siting and fast techs that present themselves, to the point that general builds are basically obsolete.

You can access coast tiles from inland by using a harbor district to produce ships. You can also use an aqueduct to get some of the bonuses from nearby fresh water supplies, but I think you're still locked out of stuff like the watermill that needs to be built in your city center near a river.

Someone answered that question earlier with a no, you can build inland now so long as one of the city hexes is on water you can build a harbor

I'm kind of hoping they have multiple for each, in which case it would be forgivable, but in the end it won't matter - I'll find a way to mod the wonderful William Morgan Sheppard quotes from Civ V into Civ VI along side the Sean Bean ones. Shit might even get the Leonard Nimoy ones in there too.
 
has anyone seen the price cheaper than 22% off yet (GOG). I'm waiting for a 27% off deal to appear, but curious about everyone else.
 
Everyone complaining about Civilization 6 price... Here in Mexico, I don't know why, I don't want to ask, the price is 600 pesos, that is, 30 dollars. Really, it was a no brainer to me.

Ohh well. I won't hold my breath for that kind of depth and control. At the very least they've talked about making mods easier to use. Civ V was kind of a pain in that regard even if adding them was "easy" thanks to the workshop.

But I really hope they've put some time into making good scenarios. Then again that might just be cut off as DLC.
 
Been watching some people play the early build and its pure anguish. They miss goodie huts, and make bad decisions constantly. It pains me to my core and yet I can not look away.

It's not really impressive to me. This just confirms I'm going to instantly turn VI's music off just like I did with V: having to listen to the same theme with different arrangements for a whole match is a stupid, horrible idea. IV's non-civilization-discriminant songs and mix of Ancient and Classical original tunes with real world compositions for the following ages remains the better framework for a Civ soundtrack IMO.

I actually kind of like it and think it's pretty cool. And huh, I've never turned the music off in any Civilization game, and I have almost 300 hours played just with Civ 5!

But to each their own I suppose. :)

Yeah, I found that the Civ V music lulled me into the mindset of the game, especially as it hit mid game slog. There's this piano piece that I've never figured out the name of that's very slow and has this building up to high notes, and a cascading fall that I really really enjoy every time it's on.
