Anyone skipped the Wii U but excited for the NX?

What is there to be hyped about? Next to no games have been announced. The hardware will be mobile-grade technology.

I can see the appeal if you love handheld gaming, but hate the awful hardware and screens Nintendo inevitably chooses for its handhelds. At last there will be an HD-class Nintendo handheld.

I skipped the Wii and Wii U and am very much open to the NX being worthwhile. Now that mobile displays are so good, I'm quite keen on the idea of playing a souped up handheld at home.

The possibility of a greater # of nintendo games being released regularly for 1 system has me excited. That's about it at this point though.
Games are what's important, first and foremost. If Nintendo has A LOT to show for NX, I think it'll finally turn some heads.

With NX we won't necessarily get the entirety of 3DS + Wii U in terms of the size of the library, but I think we'l get a lot of content since the two will, in a sense, be combined.

I'm excited. I hope Nintendo doesn't drop the ball. They came up with this new idea that combining development teams is for the best, so I hope it works out.

I have a Wii U, but despite my best efforts to play with it, I always get anxiety when attempting to play it. I think it's because the UI is so bad and slow. I know that if I want to load anything up, that it will take a very long time and I have a very short attention span.

I'm someone who bought every Nintendo console since the NES, but entirely skipped the Wii U.

Between the gamepad, the high entry price, the underpowered hardware, the not very interesting software (imo) etc I just didn't bother.

Weirdly I'm finding myself very excited for the NX though. The hybrid console/handheld format should allow me to access all the interesting 3rd party support Nintendo handhelds get in console format (I don't really enjoy playing on portables), and could make up for interesting new experiments. That and it should also help solving the software drought problems that have been plaguing Nintendo consoles since the N64.

If the price is right I think Nintendo could hit really big with the NX.
I didn't buy the wiiu after the wii, but have owned all of the Nintendo coonsoles otherwise. I'm totally getting an nx.

Had a Wii U, was fun for a bit but the dry spells were unbearable. I can't say I'm excited about something I know nothing about, but I AM excited for it's announcement.

I have never owned an original Nintendo console at launch. Every one I have bought was years after its initial release. Given that the only consoles I actually bought when games were still produced were the SNES and Gamecube, I haven't had much with Nintendo console gaming. I have owned every Nintendo handheld of some kind from the GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, and New Nintendo 3DS. I have always more valued and enjoyed the handheld market from Nintendo than their console gaming. They lost me ages ago when the original PlayStation came out, and I have never been fond of their mentality regarding console gaming.

I took a chance and bought a Wii U for $200 in the original box, four games (Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 8, Nintendo Land and Need for Speed), two Wii U Pro controllers, two Wii U remotes w/ Motion Plus, and the Smash Bros GameCube controller. I never really experienced either the Wii or Wii U, so I feel as if I have two entire libraries to look forward to. I bought a PS4 at launch, and I have been largely underwhelmed with the titles. Most of the games I bought could be played on my PC, and the only exclusive games I love are Yakuza and Persona 5. I doubt the magic of being a kid with a Nintendo console can be repeated, but I really enjoy the Wii U. Seems like a breath of fresh air with the exclusive titles. Only main issue is the GamePad and its rather ass backwards UI system.

As for the NX, not sure how to feel about it. I like the idea of the console and handheld hybrid, but I need to hear more about the release schedule of games for the console. I also need to see a price point. I would have never bought a brand new Wii U even today, but I happened to get lucky with the deal I got. I feel Nintendo will somehow fumble the potential and interest people will give their new outing after the Wii U stumbles.

How can you skip a system that plays your GameCube wii and wiiu games in one box ? Yes the system isn't really cheap but God does it have amazing games? One of the best systems I have ever played

It doesn't play your Gamecube games? I mean it can play your ISOs but in order to rip those you need something that can probably already play Gamecube and Wii games anyways (a Wii, or a PC with disc drive that can read and rip Gamecube discs).

The value is a lot less IMO when you consider how cheap Wiis are and those can already play GCN/WII games. The majority of the price is for Wii U games, which IMO is worth the price of entry but it's not difficult to see how people might not be interested in the entirety of the U's lineup.

Proud WIi U owner here and can't wait for NX. My first Nintendo was a Game Boy back in about 1992, then an N64 in about 98. Been buying day one since Gamecube (except for iterations like DS Lite etc.)

I can't say that what could be on the inside really bothers me too much. I buy Nintnedo consoles for Nintendo games and any third party exclusives it may be lucky enough to have. That strategy has me a Wii U library of about 30 games. Not bad.

I have no idea how anyone could skip the WiiU, but here I am on a gaming enthusiast site reading this.

I've brought this up before but in 2014 Nintendo released DK Tropical Freeze (one of the greatest platformers of all time) and Mario Kart 8 (the greatest kart racer of all time) early in the year. They ended the year with Smash 4 (some may prefer Mele but 4 is top quality and full of content) and Bayonetta 2 (one of the greatest action games of all time). In between those amazing bookends they dropped solid titles like Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, etc. Yet gamers ignored it. Nintendo ran circles around their competitors. They released the 4 best games of the year and gamers didn't care. They would rather vote Shadow of Mordor goty. :/

2014 was one of Nintendo's best years of quality game output ever and it didn't do anything. And following it up with a 2015 with Mario Maker, Splatoon, Tokyo Mirage, Xenoblade, etc didn't change things.

I have no idea what Nintendo has to do to pull gamers away from picking up trash in Fallout or whatever, but it's clear putting out amazing games isn't enough. If putting a screen in the middle of a totally traditional controller is enough to scare gamers away, then there may be no hope.

NX will be coming out at a time where the Wii U still has a better exclusive game library than any of the other consoles. So yes I am excited.

If the console turns out to be an actual competitive console this time around and not a under powered glorified next gen Ouya with handheld capabilities i will be extremely decided but since i haven't seen what the actual product is and i haven't really been excited for a Nintendo console since the N64.

I want to be excited i really do but it's the same song and dance again i just don't have the time or patience to care i want more from Nintendo i don't just want Mario and Zelda and Donkey Kong i want new interesting and fun games.

I find the issue largely to be a lack of third party support. As great as Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario Maker are, they are largely first party games. Where are the wide variety of shooters? Or sports games? I just bought a used Wii U, but even I can acknowledge that online gaming is inferior to Xbox Live or PSN. I can easily understand why people would be turned off by the console coming from the PS3 or Xbox 360. The library release was also mixed from about 2012 to about the point you mentioned. The high cost of the console for weaker graphics and processing also didn't help.

I was real excited about the NX originally, but the more we hear about this hybrid business, I'm less interested. I haven't written it off totally since we have no real idea of what they are trying to do so I'll keep an open mind until we find out more. I'm more interested in a "family" of devices that run the same games than I am of one device than can be a console or a handheld. I think console players like myself lose out in the end. Two pieces of hardware that use the same games means everyone wins.

As long as it does not force me to use a Wii U style game pad, I'm in. And maybe even if it does as long as the game lineup is solid.

I'm a WiiU owner but I'm highly skeptical about the NX. According to rumors NX will probably be an oversized handheld and underpowered console, neither of which sounds very exciting to me.

My first console was the N64, my favorite console might be the Gamecube (ties with the dreamcast) and I loved the Wii-mote (did not like the underpowered Wii), but I skipped the Wii U entirely.

I can't be hyped about NX if I don't even know what it is. At this point I care less and less with each passing day.

1. I am fine with the NX as a handheld as long as it packs a half decent SoC to give it some legs for the future. I am also fine if it can connect to the tv as a portable console 'hybrid'. What could be interesting... is what would games cost on such a console?

2. I am also fine with the NX as a traditional console only if it has specs meeting PS4. Anything less than this... would be totally silly. It doesn't require 4K.

3. I am fine with the NX family of devices idea however... I really don't want to buy 1k of Nintendo devices and games in one year. I also would be unsure how this would benefit development teams unless there is some great new technology easing the burden of multiple systems. I also fear this would water down efforts to make a handheld or a console just to keep prices reasonable. This family would not be great at any one thing and would fall short of 1 & 2 above.

Lastly I am NOT fine with -

A console who's hardware is insufficient out of the gates. I want my investment to last at least one generation. Be in the ballpark of a respectable handheld or console.

bought wiiu with 100€ discount, no interest in nx.
i have so many games to play that nintendo is an aftertought at this point

I'm someone who bought every Nintendo console since the NES, but entirely skipped the Wii U.

This is me too, though I would have bought a Wii U if Zelda had released earlier. Now that I know it's coming for NX, I am most likely going to get Zelda for the the new console instead. Depends on what NX is of course. Can't say I am excited for NX as I don't know what it is.
All I can say is I am excited for BOTW, it looks great and I can't wait to play it.

I am feeling rather pessimistic about NX, and that won't change unless Nintendo gives me (in my mind) good reason not to be. There's a lot of hardware coming out over the next 12-14 months that will capture my dollars: PSVR, PS4 Pro, a new gaming PC and Microsoft's Project Scorpio. An underpowered console/handheld isn't going to make my list in 2017.

I bought a wii u and because of it I'm not interested in the nx at the moment. Which is a first for me and Nintendo hardware.

Looking forward to all Nintendo's output being put into one system and with a handheld that's not severely dated.

So if my impressions of that thread are correct, people interested in the NX are the one wanting a follow up to their 3ds. I'm not sure if that is a good sign, but hey we don't know anything yet. Let's see.

The true question would have been "Anyone skipped WiiU and 3DS but excited for NX". That would be a good sign if there are some. Maybe there will be after the reveal.

Came close to getting a Wii U but never did, didn't have the games I wanted.

As for NX, well, still waiting to find out what it exactly is first. We've had bad info before and found the system to be different than all the rumors and speculation and even with some supposedly confirmed we may find out it's something sorta different.

So wait and see.

I bought the Wii U and it's currently sitting in a box in my closet.

NX is not something I have any interest in.

This is essentially where I am. Played it for maybe two months, became completely disinterested and never plugged it in again. Played Smash/Mario Kart/Mario 3d World at a friend's place and there just felt like there was no soul to any of them, just the same thing over and over again.

So yeah, with little third party support and first party games that aren't for me - I don't see a reason.

I'd like to try Nintendo games again, bit they always turn me away as soon as the system gimmick is announced. So at the moment I'm in wait and see mode.

I imagine Wii U titles won't be BC. We may get re-releases or remasters though.

With the limited audience of Wii U, BC is kind of pointless and would only be a costly inclusion. Maybe software-level BC will be an option down the line, but for now, Nintendo needs a clean break.

I hear you. I'll probably get both an NX and a Wii U.

My last Nintendo platform was the Gba, so I am pretty excited to return to a Nintendo platform soon!

You won't play this guy on your GBA just so you know.

Totally opposite.....I've skipped the Wii U but I'm disenchanted with the NX. The more I here about it (the rumors) the more it seems this thing isn't for me.

If it's a handheld then I'll be getting it. It'll be the only way to play the next mainline pokemon/fire emblem games.
