Remember Halak is still RFA, Blues only have initial rights to him, and the whole matching process.

I'm sure the Blues are going to pay whatever he wants or they wouldn't make the trade

Or not

RealKyper

I also hear that Blues made deal without talking contract with Halak so don't expect any new big immediate announcement on that front.

Ehh i could name 10 better goalies than Chris mason easily.

Yahoo rated him as the #8 most valuable UFA this offseason

8. Chris Mason, G, StL – Perennially underrated due to the fact he’s been a No. 1 in the lower-profile NHL towns of St. Louis and Nashville, the late-blooming Mason has quietly been a top-10 netminder since the lockout.

8th most valuable UFA doesn't change the fact that there are plenty of better goalies in the league than him, and it's a weak free agent goalie class

Oh I'm not arguing that he's an average goalie compared to most in the league. But I do think he's underrated for the most part.

Either way, I answered my own question from before. He's UFA, Halak is traded, the writing's on the wall.

If halak signs with the blues, then it looks like the habs have filled their quota of annual dumb offseason trades :lol
Let's hope their quota went up. Brian Campbell needs a new home.

Flyers should've gone for Halak...

they did, they were one of the teams.

"Bob McKenzie TSNBobMcKenzie

Sources say PHI, TB and SJ were others pitching hard on Halak, What's clear now is that, in spite of playoffs, Price was and is MTL's guy"

Fuck yeah, I've been engrossed in e3 news and just saw we got Halak.

WTF were Montreal thinking?

Eller is promising, but injury prone. Good job John Davidson!

Sooooooooo hockey fans

Worst deal thus fars? Kessel for 2 no. 1s, a 2, and a 3 OR Halak for these prospects

Only time will tell, if Halak signs with a KHL team then Kessel for sure.

Value-wise, I think the deal is fair. Halak is really still just a backup with the potential to be a starter. Getting a recent first rounder and some other guy is pretty much what goalies like Halak have gotten in the past.

The real issue here, if you're a Montreal fan, is whether or not they made the right choice between Price and Halak. Personally, even though I think they're both overrated, I think they would have gotten adequate goaltending either way.

One more reason to pray for a new team in Quebec City. I'm gonna wait the free agents season before I leave the bandwagon, but there is just too many reasons to hate the Habs organization.

The bottom line is this: Carey Price was good in the WJC. He won a Calder Cup in the AHL, but he was given Halak job and Halak might have won too. In the NHL, Price was never great. He had some great months here and there, but with him the Habs were a losing team, constantly. With Halak, they were a winning team. He's the reason the Habs made the playoffs in the last two seasons. He's the reason behind the SC run this year.

I don't care who has more potential. You want to win. Tons of players had a lot of potential and they failed. Remember Alexander Daigle, Gauthier ? Well, from what we know, Price is like Daigle. He doesn't work hard in practice (unlike Halak), he's partying, he's not serious. Plus, he has psychological issues. Remember when he threw a puck at the opposing team after a goal ? Remember, each time the other team scores, he blamed his defensmen by raising his head. Remember when he cried in the playoffs because he couldn't make a decent save ? Remember when he raised his hands like Patrick Roy when they booed him ?

Habs must think that because he was in the shadow of Halak, Price learned what it takes to win, to get better. That's a serious gamble. Because you know if the Habs lose 3-4 games in a row, with a few soft goals, the crowd will chant Halak name. Radio/TV shows will be quick to call the trade a mistake.

My 2 cents. Life goes on.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Lots more Carey Price LOLs for years to come in the Northeast. I'm lovin' it.

So happy to acquire Halak. Finally the Blues have a goalie to build around, something they haven't had in forever.

Too bad to lose Eller, but you have to give to get. Habs fans, Eller is going to be a good forward in this league.

St. Louis will likely be forced to gamble and overpay. Montreal didn't want to put themselves in that situation, especially when they've already got a lot of money committed to a few players.

I think the Blues would have been better off signing Mason (33 y.o.) to 3-year contract or something, probably a couple mil cheaper than Halak, and focus on signing guys like Perron, Erik Johnson, and one more forward to replace Kariya (6 million freed up there). But it sorta looks like they're focusing on being a defensive-oriented team.

When all is said and done, Montreal may be the winner here. But when you've got a young, sorta proven goalie in your system.... I'd hang onto him.

For whatever reason, Montreal must've known that they wouldn't be able to resign Halak. Maybe he wanted too much, maybe he wants to play in the KHL. Cuz if he was ready and willing to resign with the Habs for a reasonable amount and they straight up chose Price over him... :lol

Not sure that's true. Halak is better whe he gets 30-35+ shots.
What I mean is more investing money into defensemen and goaltenders as opposed to forwards. But we'll see what they do. I really have no idea.
