Final Fantasy XV first 45 minute gameplay video (final build of the game)

Good point, yeah.

Lol, I assumed you were riding this train since Versus, too.
YOU ARE NOT A REAL FAN LIKE US

lol.

Don't get me wrong, I had heard of it. But it's funny, actually. My best friend in the real world, we grew up on FF games, all the way back to FFIV (when it was called FFII) and he was super jazzed for Versus. I wasn't interested in action combat in the slightest.

When he got ED, I watched him play it (and he was absolutely terrible) and we both hated it, except for Ramuh. He's hated it (well, maybe overstating it, he just lost interest) ever since, but he never got any good at it. I ended up getting it myself so I could see what a competent player looked like (I wrote that just in case I show him this post, lol). By now, a bit more familiar with action-based games, I took the time to really get used to the combat and fell absolutely in love with the concept and flow. I've been following it like it's my job every since. And almost literally, because I have 7 hours a day to kill at work.

So, I've been pouring through every bit of info there is out there, and there are just so many inconsistencies in the story that I've actually been more interested in following and studying the various groups following it, and some of the common elements with different viewpoints. It's actually been pretty fascinating. But, this angle just happens to also give me a solid, wider angle view over this thing with less emotion invested into it.

I feel like a lot of the people who have waited so long are just a little too close to get an objective viewpoint. And the majority of the reviewers won't be in that boat. I expect most of them to give it a fair shake.

still don't know why they went with the dissidia writer

Because Nojima on fire after this:

250

Or Watanabe after the classic Lightning saga.

That and some new blood taking over the writing helm can be good.

Because they need fresh people at times?
Yep, I actually was happy when I heard of her involvement because anything is better than those two now and any fresh blood is at least a new chance. Who knows, maybe she turns out to be a hidden talent after she was given the chance to tap into her full potential on a mainline FF instead of having to make something out of fan-fiction cross-universe nonsense like Dissidia.

It's official, I'm super hyped for this game. I kept trying to be cautious about it but man it's looking more and more fun as the weeks go. Super stoked, y'all.

which includes people outside of square

what was promising about dissidia's writing?
She hasn't done anything besides two Dissidias (on the first one she wasn't even credited as Scenario Writer, but as RPG Planner, whatever that is), so she really couldn't yet show off her skills and basically is still fresh blood when it comes to mainline FFs^^

uhh ok lol

Every day the wait gets more and more brutal.

What are people playing to pass the next month by?

R2. I'm suuuuuper excited for more Titanfall. I had 130 hrs into R1. I think it'll be a really nice palette cleanser before digging into XV (especially as I just played a bunch of VIII).

Lots of stuff out in the next couple weeks tho so hopefully folks will be able to stay busy

I don't play anything anymore besides rocket league and the occasional short indie hit. idk how I'm going to get through xv. I started uncharted 4 around launch and only finished it last month.

They needed 10 years to make it, you will need 10 to finish it.

I wanted to throw up when I first played Ed. I didn't touch it for about a week. Then I said I'm going to slow down and go through tutorials. Once I got a hang of the combat I was hooked, it was legitimately fun and wanted more.

I honestly think that's one issue is that the combat is not easily accessible... Right away. People were probably expecting to hit buttons with Noctis and everything dies. But once you get the flow of combat it really shines.

Man, all of these Noctis avatars. It's getting hard to tell who is who lol. We need an FFXV GAF version of this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSzOXtXm8p0

I've had this avatar since E3 2013. I used to frequent FFXV threads all the time and correctly predicted that Versus would become XV and be revealed at E3 2013 for PS4. I now work in the industry and don't comment as often as I once did. I still browse about as often as I did before.

kingdom hearts ii may be the longest game i've ever beaten :|

i can't even think of another rpg i've beaten besides kh1, the early pokemons, and harry potter and sorcerer's stone for the gbc

fake edit: okay ruby/sapphire are longer... and my fav :D

Totally agree. My first impression with ED was NOT good. Not at all. But, the dude that was running the controls, all he ever did was slash slash slash. Never dodged or parried. Never tried different weapon combos, etc. So, it was boring as hell. And there was no FF vibe at all, until we randomly found the cave and got Ramuh.

We went to go summon it for the first time, both of us completely underwhelmed, and we've both like "this better be good". My god, you should have seen our damn FACES! lol. We were legitimately stunned. That was definitely the moment it started.

I played Ed about a week ago back for hell of it. Summond him, and thought it was cool he still kinda hangs out a bit after he does the job. Didn't catch that the first time I used him.

Finally have my account activated, was afraid I am gonna miss this game launch. I have monumental faith since 2011 :)

Just realized AC is 11(!) year old now, still looking good imho

As Ignis said to Prompto in Episode Duscae:
"Sabotage is far beyond you."
(Which made Ignis look pretty suspicious...)

Just look at Prompto, how could he be a bad guy...? :3

Ignis has motive. He is tired of being the groups voice of reason (eat that lettuce, don't drive at night, we should make camp.) STFU Ignis!!! You can't tell me what to do!!!

Yes. The review thread will be a complete disaster.

Since I'm sure critics will be harder on this game due to the "10 years old wait", and I fully expect Metacritic scores in the lower 80's, or even the higher 70's, I also expect the review thread to be full of "yikes" and "welps" and "lol, 10 years waiting for THIS" nonsense.

It's going to be one hell of a spectacle.

That it will.

"You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.

This will be the quote to remember before going into the Final Fantasy XV review thread.

I just want as many people to just sit and enjoy the game as possible. That is all I want. A lot of hard work by many fantastic artists at SE went into the game. It wasn't just Nomura. It wasn't just Tabata. But a whole group of people that poured everything they got into the game to give everyone an unforgettable experience. It's not one person's vision. It's a team's vision.

So please, enjoy it. They did it for you.

I could definitely see mid- to high-80 and that would absolutely be fine. I'm following XVersus for over 7 years and never did I actually expect it to be the Game of the Forever just because it's been in development in some way or other for over 10 years - that's just silly and irrational. I'll judge it like any other game, though with a little bit more tolerance and sympathy because it's SE's first truly modern, in-house developed AAA. Also I see it more like a stepping stone, a needed step in the right direction for SE after last-gen, and thus would be totally happy with an ambitious but flawed game. FFXVI and especially BD2's next game, ideally FFXVII, will be the real test.

But first get new writers on board, please, ffs. Nothing based on anything Nojima or Watanabe touched. Imagine good writing in a FF, like, TW3-level
LET ME DREAM
[EDIT: Other than FFXII, obviously]. Though, to be fair, FFXV seems not as bad as expected from the recent footage (outside of the issues I have with some of the main characters' localization). Let's see how the final game turns out.

I'm with you here.

Good writing is absolutely the thing they need to focus on most at this point. Imagine Witcher 3 with poor writing - GOTG? No. All the complaints about controls and filler POIs would have overwhelmed the conversation.

Good writing brings lots of folks along and smooths over minor gameplay/presentation bumps that don't stick out when you're fully on board with the character and the world.

We've been speculating that those 4 dudes in the Goddess mural are supposed to mirror the main cast. The blind dude could be Ignis.

Exactamente.

A couple hours from now @pkollar will post something about FFXV. Most likely his impressions from the preview build he received less than a week ago.
