Trump refuses to commit to accept the results of 2016 Presidential Election

I do agree that I don't see Trump doing post election rallies telling his supporters to continue fighting and calling for more violent retaliation against the government. You don't go from completely respected democratic process to insurrection or civil war in a single election.

Although he is the latest downturn towards someone influential who would go to those rallies. We've been on the slide since the Tea Party really. Just is how the US far right is building it's influence and appeal like how far right groups are gaining popularity in Europe.

That will be the more interesting aftermath of the election since we won't be having a violent revolution like so many seem to want, whether the European "far right" standard of pro-welfare state, anti-people not of the "nation" eclipses the U.S. standard "far right" of anti-welfare state. Trump is a bit of a American/Perot-ish middle-way in that regard.

The people who "don't belong" getting benefits factor probably will always win unfortunately.

They used to burn witches, I don't know why but I assume it has something to do with their magic powers? Since we're dealing with a warlock we should probably follow procedure.

Have decided that I'm going to get some people together for election night (in the UK), watch the whole thing and only eat American food / drink American drink. Probably be dead by the time the results are in.

He has some great campaign advisors. This only strengthens his "fuck the establishment politicians" even more, and this will only makes his fan base like him more. Whether it's enough to be president... As a European I remain hopeful that, surely, the majority of a country of over 300 million people can't share his views.

Literally fuck his base....

He's absolutely right that he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and still have his base...

Literally his problem is he focuses so much on appealing to those who already love him that he forgets you know literally everyone else who isn't deplorable.

Anyone else hope Trump's empire completely implodes and he and his children go broke? Or am I just evil.

His entire family besides maybe Barron, Ivanka and the other daughter deserve to be broke for the rest of their lives for the damage they've done to the country. Realistically, I think Mark Cuban is right in that the Trump brand is bankrupt in 7 years. Ivanka will probably come out and denounce everything that happened during the campaign after a few years have passed in some tell-all book, saying she was held hostage or some shit.

Nah, Trump can parlay this into a career as a Glenn Beck style nutjob media personality in a heartbeat if he wants to. Losing the election isn't going to make him go away, and I suspect the worst is yet to come.

Most witches are savvy enough not to flaunt their nature on national TV, but it's clear that Hillary was far too prideful about her recent promotion to wear anything but her ostentatious new uniforms. To be fair, it's not every day your regular Space Wench becomes a Cosmic Malvengatrix.

Actually IMO Donald trumps policies fall into 3 categories

Stuff he's thought about : eg abortion lgbt etc where he normally is progressive

Stuff he's inherently wrong about and gives no thought to : race relations , international politics ,Climate change

Stuff he shifts around to please ppl : (this overlaps with the first two at times) eg again abortion, gun rights etc

It's almost as if the idiot if he gave time and thought to certain things he could be a liberal but he doesn't and is too thin skinned and opportunistic . But I guess that can be said of any ignorant idiot .

Mark Cuban also said Trump's brand would increase tenfold after the election. I think billionaires all talk out of their asses.

Thing is though he consciously re-positioned himself to be more palatable to the GOP by shifting on abortion (he now says he's pro-life) and gay marriage (he'd prefer you don't ask but he'd like to say it's now settled but personally he's against it) and so on.

When he first ran for President in 2000 he was strongly pro-choice, wanted wealth taxes, gay marriage, campaign finance reform, universal health care, and assault gun bans. Which would have actually put him to the "left" of Gore and Kerry and even 2008 Obama/Hillary.

Dave Weigel looked at Trump's 2000 campaign book here in 2011: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2011/04/enter_the_donald_take_two.html
"I really believe the Republicans are just too crazy, right?" he told Tim Russert on Meet the Press. "I mean, just what's going on is just nuts."
The goal of health care reform, wrote Trump, should be a system that looks a lot like Canada. "Doctors might be paid less than they are now, as is the case in Canada, but they would be able to treat more patients because of the reduction in their paperwork," he writes.
In The America We Deserve, Trump proposed a one-time 14.25 percent tax on individuals and trusts "with a net worth of over $10 million." He predicted that it would raise $5.7 trillion, "which we would use to pay off the national debt" and pay for Social Security. (The first part of this seems quaint now.)

"By imposing a one-time 14.25 percent net-worth tax on the richest individuals and trusts," he explained, "we can put America on sound financial footing for the next century." Like basically every other Trump idea, this one came with a story of epiphany and self-sacrifice. "The plan would cost me $700 million personally in the short term, but it would be worth it."

And from some articles at the time he was running:
The irony in the possible Buchanan-Trump matchup is that both men left the Republican Party to get away from the likes of each other. Buchanan says he left because the party had lost its way on core principles, such as the abortion issue.

Trump says he quit because "the Republicans are just too crazy right," a comment that he could easily have been aiming at the Buchananites, judging from some of Trump's comments about the conservative commentator. Speaking Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," he called Buchanan a "Hitler lover," a reference to Buchanan's new book stating that Hitler posed no real threat to the United States at the start of World War II.
Before opting for Ross Perot's Reform Party, Trump was known as a Republican with socially liberal but economically conservative views.

He backs abortion rights - a stark contrast to his Reform Party opponent Pat Buchanan - tax cuts and universal health care.

He supports free trade - but only with the US getting tough with countries that refuse to open their markets.

"Japan for many years has ripped off the United States, big league," he once said. "England has been a terrific partner.

"France has been a terrible partner, a terrible team player."

While he had said he broadly favoured tax cuts, he also proposed a surtax on every person and trust valued over $10m, the proceeds of which would go to paying the national debt.

He had said that would mean he would have to stump up some $700m but economists say his figures didn't add up.
I now think that article misquoted him, "big league" should be "bigly" right?

Also:
The developer's aides, razor sharp in black suits and sunglasses, handed out samples of Trump 2000 hand sanitizer -- a wink to the candidate's reluctance to shake hands

why is this such a big deal? let the big baby cry in his corner

Because it's unprecedented in US political history? For starters. And possibly extremely dangerous.

Surprising no one, Joe Scarborough just spent the first 10-15 minutes of his show downplaying the "I'll leave you in suspense" thing and saying it was the media blowing things out of proportion.

Joe Scarborough is worthless, and I have no idea why that show is still on the air.

Probably answered but why do we need his acceptance? Is it a requirement of some kind to move forward? Also, didn't he say the opposite right after debate 1 or 2?

I hope that the FBI and National Guard are prepared to respond and arrest Trump and his followers if there is even one incident of violence when he loses. We have to show a message that demagogues will not be tolerated.

We don't need it, but it's good for the country to have it. It's one of the things that makes America great.

Meh, still don't think this is significant. It's just Trump being Trump. Let him whine if he wants to.

I'm just glad when this stupid shit is over.

Being a public figure of influence, presidential candidates develop a large following of people. Trump and Sander's were especially cult-like, people who are willing to follow these people to extremes because they are viewed as visionaries and leaders into a new golden age.

A president not conceding to the fact that the democratic process has indeed worked is asking for there to be civil unrest. Think about it from the perspective of the loser. To their mind, they lost specifically because the democratic process failed, not because their loss was legitimate. If the democratic process had worked, their would be in power. Therefore, they cannot believe in the government they will now have to spend the next 4 years under is truly about taking care of them, because now their voices don't matter. That's the basic recipe for a freedom movement.

A presidential concession is to signal to their followers that the democratic process has worked, and that just because they lost, that doesn't mean they have a right to overthrow the current person in charge, and today's election cycle has been one of the most intense in this regard. Just look at how the Bernie or bust people reacted to Hillary winning the primary, even after Bernie conceded to his loss. Now imagine Trump's even more ravenous fanbase actually being egged on by their cult leader into believing the country is indeed against them.

We'll see how it turns out, but I think Trump supporters are shrinking in number as the process goes on. I also their their too cowardly to do anything more than sucker punch innocent protesters at their rally. But it is soemthing to watch out for.

Any American that refuses to accept a democratic landslide can go self-deport to Russia.

Fucking deplorables.

Didn't you hear? This is now a badge of honor for troglodytes and hatemongers. They wear it with pride even though it was SOOOOO offensive to them weeks ago and hurt their feels.

In what was the best start for trump his refusal to say he'll accept the result and calling Clinton a nasty woman arrested rightfully the only things people are talking about today. Someone is kicking themselves for not demanding the debates be 60 minutes.

Because if literally anyone else said this it would be the end of their political career.
This implies that Trump has a political career.

I hope that the FBI and National Guard are prepared to follow the law they've sworn to uphold rather than encourage the fantasies of R/D partisans in their open desire for bloodshed (by other people of course, not them).

Thank you for agreeing with me, that is exactly what I said.

No, it's not. There would be no legal grounds for the National Guard or FBI to arrest Donald Trump for anything.

I think benjipwns fuse box has burnt out following the last debate
Sorry, I'm just a big fan of not finally killing off the republic so some partisans can jail and/or execute their political opponents for being egotistical bullshitters.

Ensuring the peaceful transition of power is what the country is built on and definitely part of what they must uphold.

The transition of power will be from Obama, not Donald Trump.

It is against the law to incite violence.
That doesn't grant the FBI and National Guard arrest powers for state laws.

Especially not the mass arrest of Republicans on the orders of a Democratic President.
