i feel like if Nintendo had followed up Wii w/ this it might have been big, but at this point? Unless it's like $199 I just don't know...

Ok, after rewetting it, overall thoughts:

- the console and the controllers are so ugly. whyyyy.
- those tiny controllers look uncomfortable as fuck. do not want.
.

I think since size was a consideration for the mobile controllers there isn't much room for improvement. Seems pretty slick to me overall.

I'm so disappointed. I'm 38 years old and I have no desire for a handheld console.

Sony and MS and getting to 4K and VR and Nintendo is stuck on barely better than Wii U graphics at 720p because they think people will still buy a handheld on 2017.

I don't get it.

I'm 37 and I prefer a handheld console. I don't always want to be in front of my TV.

Best of both worlds here.

Mark my words:
They will sell the portable alone as the 3DS-successor and the portable+Base as a set as Wii U-successor. And then offer the Base alone for people looking to upgrade from the portable standalone.

I really hope they do. I would only need one dock, but my wife and I both will need a handheld

I can't post!

EDIT: Finally, I tried posting 3 times. My post was:

I'm at work so I can't watch any videos, but the screen shots are confusing me. Is the "controller" extendable and the screen is hidden under it? If so, SOLD. If they're two separate components, I'll think about it.

Much, MUCH better reveal than I anticipated.

At first I thought they showed Witcher 3 and Skyrim. Would have been pretty amazing.
They had the right focus for a first reveal.

Seems to be powerful enough to run open world games decently.
Only questions I want to have answered asap, are:

Does each Joy-con function with a gyro?
How long will the battery last?
Does it have a touchscreen?
Do the classic controllers have gyros?
What's the mystery button for?

nba fully on the go......this thing most likely will have some LTE model......because you basically need online to even play NBA half the time with your accounts. Unless they make it more offline friendly.

Still psyched as fuck

Amazing how close this was:

The more I look at it the more I don't think making it so you can use each side of the controller as it's own controller was worth it.

Look at how small that is and how close the buttons and stick have to be. We will see how that feature is utilized, but I think I would have preferred just having a solid dpad on the controller that comes with the system. The "pro" controller looks okay enough but wouldn't have even needed it.

As expected... Eh... Need info on the hardware and games but I'm not really interested in the whole portability thing, I bought a Vita () and the ended up barely using it outside my place. Last Nintendo platform I bought was a Gameboy Advanced and it's a top three gaming regret purchase.

I'm intrested, but need to know more about:

Account system.
VC / digital puchases back-cap.
Power (does the docking station add any processing power?)
Storage capacity and/or ease of storage expansion.
Spot Pass/Miiverse still a thing?
Price.

I'm into it, but the design looks a bit lacking (that dock looks straight up like a Rubbermaid product), hope the retail version looks a bit better. Also, colours please.

The fact no major game companies have their AAA titles on any high end tablets? And skimming over "Nintendo support" as if it wasn't a HUGE deal is naive -- the combined handheld AND home catalogs are now coming to a single platform. Combined, the 3DS+WiiU first/second party libraries are INSANE, especially when you add in all the announced third party support.

We don't even fucking know if the docking port adds extra power for home use, which would also be a huge plus.

My friends 3 year old tablet runs Steam games. Bioshock infinite looks great when it's connected to a tv, After getting burned by the wii u, this seems very underwhelming.

I hope Nintendo make one without screen, TV only for lower price.
That thing will be at dock mode forever and screen have no use for me.

$399 USD I'm thinking.

- Very mature design, not targeting children
- Serious hardware in a very thin device
- High quality screen

Was there any sign of touch being used?

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Don't care what anyone says...I'm going to call it the Wii Switch.

And thats what Nintendo wants ppl to do, Switch from the Wii name. lol

I just realized this thing turns into a normal type controller. Looks kinda fat but not bad Nintendo..... not bad at all.

The nun chucks look on the small side tho.

But....this should mean a boat load of normal and nun chuck controllers available for everyone. No Wii U gamepad one and done issues. In a perfect world anyway.

How do we know that's the power level of this thing?

This looks... exactly like the Wii U controller, only it's detachable.

And yikes that bulky controller is giving me OG XBox controller flashbacks.

Since I'm a long portable console fan, I'm quite curious and interested in the follow up of the Nintendo Switch (even if the name is...meh).

It was a nice move of Nintendo. Portables where always their strongest point.

Looking over the footage and the available materials again, they did a much tidier job this time around of communicating all kinds of subtle reassurances instead of confusing everyone like they did with the Wii U.

- That you can swap from the TV to the portable mode on the fly with the game still running.
- That the portable is entirely untethered—take it out to the park, to the street, without worrying about the range from the base station because the actual processing is in device in your hands.
- That you can use the pro controller in the portable mode, and indeed swap control schemes this way and that regardless of which mode you are in.
- That the pro controller has the classic D-pad.
- That multiplayer works with multiple systems as well as split-screen.
- And all of the new software, of course.

The one thing that worries me is that we haven't seen any sign of gyro control—which control schemes support it, if any, and which ones won't. This is likely to affect my choice of whether to play Breath of the Wild on the Switch or the Wii U. Given the lengths to which Nintendo has embraced subtle motion control as a form of refinement in everything from the Zelda remakes to the very core of Splatoon, I would be surprised and disappointed if it were flatly abandoned. But I could also see the marketing case for not showing it off until we see the fine print.

Things I'd like to know about:

- Battery life and charging options (I would hope and assume you can play portably with a power cord, as when you're travelling or pulling long sessions off-TV, without depending on the TV dock)
- Gyro aiming
- Backwards compatibility with older Nintendo controllers, for home multiplayer (given the layout, it should be possible with the Wii U Pro)
- Protective casing for the screen on the go
- Integration with the existing account system (e.g. Virtual Console library)
- Save data system (in particular, whether data is written to the game cartridges, and how transferrable it is)
- Dimensions—it seems very small and I at least want to see a side-by-side comparison of the screen with the Wii U GamePad's
- Price and SKU options, obviously

im happy with the reveal. if they made a standard hardcore console they would be doomed to fail most people are content with sony/microsoft 3 of the same consoles will never work especially now how strong steam is becoming. 3 hardcore console will not work its not realistic. Especially 3rd parties would fail why would you buy ports on another nintendo hardcore console when you already have ps4 to play them or w/e. This universal platform seems like their best bet.

Looks pretty cool but I see this also as very risky concept for Nintendo. I'ts going to be expensive for handheld but at the same time as a home console weaker than competition. Considering that this time Nintendo is going with single device to the gen they need this to sell 3DS numbers and not just better than WiiU.

This looks fine. As long as it's cheap enough to justify buying pretty much only Nintendo games, I'm in.

I'm bad at comparing technical specs, so in short, will the handheld part of the hybrid be as good-looking and technically sound as my Vita?

You know I'm already buying this. Still need info on the charging and motion controls. Will I be able to use my Wiimote and nunchuck? Are there batteries or is it usb charging? I was ready to impulse buy. Where is the price and store preorders?
