Splatoon Switch: hairstyles, pants, new clothes, almost definitely sequel

First thing I noticed. I always thought hairstyles were something the original should have included, so I'm glad it only took one sequel/port to get them.

Pants and Haircuts? SOLD!

Looks like a port with extra content to me. Good idea I think. Get it out at launch along with Smash or Mario Kart. Then you have two really great multiplayer games to build your audience on from day 1.

Whether it's an expanded port or all-new game, it's pretty much just as good as a sequel in my eyes. PANTS and HAIRDOS is all the bullet-points I need!

It looks like it has a PBR so I think they're probably going to bill this as a sequel.

It's kind of hard to tell off screen though.

Yeah, I'm gonna say sequel as well (taken from the screenshot thread)

That definitely looks like a brand new version of Urchin Underpass, not just a modified one.

I agree with this

also I'm on team sequel now because of whoever brought up the spawn pad being different

somehow that makes me think it's a sequel and not a port, more so than all the new maps and freshness. that was to be expected.

I guess I'll get a Switch when Splatoon is on the console. Maybe day one then.

Hairstyles was all I wanted, new game modes and better rotation would be awesome. We also need a theater mode like in Halo.

I find it interesting that this ended the trailer. Nintendo definitely going to be pushing it hard.

Not really feeling splatoon switch at the moment, especially if they completely divert from what made the original great with the map and touch controls. I'm assuming gyro motion is still in, but not having a full on map at all times changes the game completely. Now you'd have to rely on talking to team mates instead of just looking at the map and being able to assess what's needed. We'll see, but right now, it feels like a side step backwards.

I tend to agree with this but as long as gyro-assisted aim is in I'll manage

that's the make or break feature for me because I suck at aiming with just an analog stick

Yeah, I really doubt Nintendo would take that away, as it was pretty central to Splatoon's whole set of mechanics - also by their own admission, some huge majority of players used motion controls.

I honestly doubt they would remove gyro controls and have the one thing that I assumed made it so popular in Japan to begin with, but the question remains what the control scheme is for gyro controls. If it's not in the default joy-con or pro controllers then regardless far fewer people will use gyro controllers. Will there be legacy support for the wii u controllers?

If they actually removed it then rip Splatoon.

I got SO HYPED when I saw this new Splatoon during the Switch trailer.

Seeing this means that I am IN day one!*

*if I can get the console on launch

Same, especially if it's a launch game. That and Zelda: BOTW would make for a killer launch on the system for me. Gotta stay fresh.

Really hope Nintendo didn't cater to the "no gimmicks!!!" crowd, because Splatoon is so much better with gyro controls.

Gyros don't fall under gimmick anymore at this point. They've been with us for damn near a decade and they've improved to the point where they're far more accurate than they used to be. They're a big component in VR, they're used widely in mobile gaming, and most console manufacturers have a controller with gyros built in or in the handheld consoles themselves. The only thing that's changed is that developers are using gyros when they make sense instead of using it just because it's a brand new thing.

Looks kinda like a sequel to me, which doesn't surprise me given how quickly they pushed out the first game.

Also, it seems like they're going full eSports with this game. Hopefully Smash 4's rumored port follows suit.

I thought both this and Mario Kart were ports but there are some key differences that make them look like sequels. Like was said earlier the new way of characters spawning isn't something that'd be different in a port.
