isnt that the case with any gaming system, phone or tablet, Computer? If you take it with you the people at home are not gonna be able to use it.

Nah with the PS4 and Xbox One if you take it with you people at home can still play it.

You don't have to spend a few hundred dollars if you want more than one system.

The OCD in me is killing me because when docked, the NX, or should I say SWITCH doesn't completely hide behind the screen protector. >.> I kinda want the entire screen covered and not just a strip at the top showing.

Other than that, I feel like Pokemon would have made for a great "AHA!" moment at the end where they do some litttle cut away with pokemon music or something. I understand they don't wanna undercut their own game, but....it would have been the dopest dope.

They will sell more Switches in 18 months that WorldWide LTD Wii U.

true... but I could easily see the switch life time numbers being 40-60mil which would be absolutely pathetic for a nintendo combined console and handheld market.

this thing is not going to have mass market appeal at all.

This looks dumb as hell. So much gimmick.

Tbh, if it wasn't for the gimmick of sliding off the button sections, the "portable" part of this thing could have been much smaller and let you actually put it in a pocket. Now they have a handheld that requires you to have a bag on you...and heres me thinking the vita was too big for a handheld :/

I agree that it likely wouldn't be at launch. However, there's more involved in the hybrid portion than just a screen, battery and plastic right? Are the joycons hollow? How are they working together with the screen?
I would bet that the joycons are hollow. Why would you need electronics in those? Both halves work even if they're not connected...

Except that everyone buys consoles for 3rd party games. If they didn't, everyone would be playing with WiiU. Yes, some folks will buy a console for Gears/Zelda/Uncharted, but that's not where most of the market is.
Well, there's still 13 (?) million people that bought a Wii U with basically no 3rd party...

Can't see how they can call this a hybrid and then not include everything shown in the reveal video in a single SKU. The point is it is supposed to be both a HH and home console in one and if they split it up in packs depending on which hardware you prefer...
Everything but the pro controller is likely needed and will be bundled.

And more expensive bundles I imagine would be more internal storage or pack-in games.

Any desperate attempts on defending yourself?

You mean being alive at the time or how I thought the Switch showing was equally underwhelming as the Wii U.

On the bright side the Switch wasn't shown at E3 like the Wii U, so the disappointment isn't as harsh.

I thought they might do different SKU`s before, but if they do the hybrid concept they are trying to sell simply falls apart. I`m betting a single SKU. If there are more it`s just because of pro controller bundled or more storage.

I've got one problem. The DPad.

I appreciate some don't consider it too important in today's gaming world but it just seems a bit small and the placement is strange as well.

My hands aren't the largest but I can imagine it will be hard to pull off combos if a fighter ever comes to the system.

Probably already been said but just looking at the form factor and what it's being asked to achieve, portable battery life is going to be horrible.

Consider all of the things drawing power from the device:
- Phablet size HD display.
- Tegra APU.
- Multiplayer functionality of some sort - WiFi, most likely.
- Read/write to system memory and cartridge systems (people underestimate the fact that this does actually contribute to power consumption).
- Wireless connectivity to the detachable controllers.

In a package that's narrower than the current N3DS? And people are jumping on the hype train expecting this thing to function, portably, as equivalent to a PS4 (seriously, the comments on Nintendo's FB page are doing just that). Unless Nintendo has a time machine from which they've been able to acquire futuristic battery tech, the likelihood of this thing lasting more than 3 hours in pure portable mode is slim.

As a connect-to-TV device, I'm interested but I'm HIGHLY skeptical of both the portability and performance. I'll mark myself as cautiously optimistic but not enough to preorder the system until I see some actual performance reviews and see exactly what games are coming to fruition (as, unlike most of Nintendo's FB feed, I'm not enthused about a port of 5 year old Skyrim).

This thing will have more SKU's than a Korean BBQ Pit.

Tablet
Dock
Tablet W/ Dock
Tablet W/Dock, Pro Controller

My issue is that with 5 kids, if this is the main gaming system for the living room, if I take the Switch to work, they'll need another tablet to dock and play. They'll have to sell the DOCK and the Tablet separate. It will not work as a bundle only system.

I think they'd look great if they did:

handheld alone for $199 (for the handheld audience, prices it below 3DS when it launched)

handheld+dock for $249 (for the console audience, prices it below the Wii U AND below the PS4/Xbone currently)

handheld+dock+pro controller+zelda+other goodies (Zelda VC games, special gold console, whatever extra cool shit) for $299 or maybe $349. basically for the hardcores who want to give Nintendo money.

Nintendo being Nintendo, though, I expect to be stubborn and refuse to sell it without the dock. Even though you can get the full experience just with the handheld, or just with the tv...

It's cool tech but I will NEVER use the portability features. I will never take this thing on the go. The most I could see is maybe walking upstairs with it or something. I won't call it a gimmick, but it definitely doesn't appeal to me.

$300 and games games games is how you make me buy this thing.

Connect other docks to multiple tvs in your house or elsewhere so you don't have to disconnect reconnect every time?

I doubt this thing will get sold seperately to be honest.

It's almost as though people are just looking for reasons to criticize Nintendo.

I've never heard that complaint towards Sony and Microsoft. What do you do with their consoles if you want to use it on another tv?

You simply move it, or buy another console.

So still no DVD playback, GG Nintendo I'm done with this shit company

It's 2016. The most common devices people use don't even have optical drives. The masses do streaming today, discs are ironically for audio-video enthusiasts.

Nintendo Switch OT: Snitches get Switches.

Fucking hell this has to be the new title for any Nintendo rumor threads.

Factual statements, even Pachter knows that, should be followed up with a because. What is your because?

Agreed. Even I, an enthusiast, have no interest in this. IMO, it's not going to do Nintendo numbers of old. Not by a long shot.

Are Sony and MS consoles designed and marketed as portable hybrids?

While I did love playing through Skyrim, seeing Nintendo use a port of a years old game to show off a new console gives me horrific flashbacks of the Batman Armored Edition during the Wii U reveal.

Woah, that crazy high. They can't compete with the price nor performance of current gen- let alone the continued laughable AAA multiplatform support they fumbled on years ago. That number is way too optimistic.
This thing looks like a mess from beginning to end...

Some people think they're joking, but there's actually people out there that think it is an actual d-pad.

Forgetting the size which would be reason enough to know it's not an actual d-pad, but look at the placement lol.

Looks... interesting. But I need to see more before I'm convinced.

On a conceptual level it's pretty cool, really looks like what the WiiU should have been. Offering true portability and focusing on the local multiplayer aspect which has long been one of the big advantages of Nintendo games.

I'm left with several questions about the hardware though. Is it even going to be stronger than the WiiU?. I know they didn't show the console actually playin the games but it's weird how zelda seemed to have frame rate issues and even skyrim looks werid (sort of like I would imagine a mobile port of Skyrim).

In the end though I think that what will make or break this is the game lineup. I really wish that with this being both a home console and a portable it turns into THE nintendo console moving forward. Nintendo had a pretty awesome output on 3DS and WiiU, but if they could focus all their teams on just one system the output would be amazing. The Switch needs to be able to play the next Pokemon game, the next Monster Hunter but also the next mainline zelda and 3D Mario, now that would be amazing.

If they feel unsure about leaving the traditional handheld market behind they could a release a smaller and weaker but also cheaper hand held only variation. But make sure that all the games for it are still playable on the Switch

I personally bet it's going to sell like 20-30 million. A lot of the 3DS audience will bail out when they see how huge the thing is.

Well, you can stream the PS4 using remote play in various ways.

All those Japanese developers for Vita shouls hopefully be marching to NXS.

why?

the install base for the vita is much larger than the switch in japan and will stay that way for a while even if the switch somehow manages to be a run away success.

the vita install base is very dedicated and buys up a ton of games for the size of the market.

and historically japanese companies haven't been quick to get off older consoles.

I mean if the switch is a success 2-3 years after launch you might see people moving off the vita, but unless they need more power (which given most vita games don't get close to pushing the vita to the limits they likely won't) there is no reason for them to rush off the vita to the switch.

But as a portable you can take it wherever you want right?

I don't believe we're at the stage where people are complaining that you can't connect the NS to another tv without connecting to the tv lol.
