I doubt this thing will get sold seperately to be honest.

It's almost as though people are just looking for reasons to criticize Nintendo.

I've never heard that complaint towards Sony and Microsoft. What do you do with their consoles if you want to use it on another tv?

You simply move it, or buy another console.

Well, to be fair, I am kind of meh if the tablet doesn't just have an mini or micro HDMI out so I can use it on the hotel TVs like I do my android devices or windows tablets running steam.

I would bet that the joycons are hollow. Why would you need electronics in those? Both halves work even if they're not connected...

Well, there's still 13 (?) million people that bought a Wii U with basically no 3rd party...

And you think Nintendo is happy with that? To hit 50-100 million you need 3rd parties or an incredible gimmick like the Wii. I don't even understand how someone can argue today that 3rd party games don't move consoles.

I'm a parent of two little kids. My favorite thing about Wii u was off tv play. This is like that on steroids. I can't wait.

Hope the battery is user replaceable

I've got one problem. The DPad.

I appreciate some don't consider it too important in today's gaming world but it just seems a bit small and the placement is strange as well.

My hands aren't the largest but I can imagine it will be hard to pull off combos if a fighter ever comes to the system.

I thibk that may he their equivalent to the start button with the minus symbol on the other side being select/share.

So people would have preferred just the portable with hdmi out?

No doubt people would resort to complaining about needing to carry a hdmi cable with them lol

I personally bet it's going to sell like 20-30 million. A lot of the 3DS audience will bail out when they see how huge the thing is.

a new smash game, a new pokemon game, new zelda, new mario ect likely have a bit more selling power than that, which is why i went for 40-60.

to be fair though if it sells as poorly in japan as I am expecting, we should be hearing about the new dedicated handheld late next year and that would hurt the switch numbers as pokemon and what not would end up either on the new handheld or on both.

But as a portable you can take it wherever you want right?

I don't believe we're at the stage where people are complaining that you can't connect the NS to another tv without connecting to the tv lol.

Didn't see or claim anyone complained about that. In the release vid, we did see the guy undock form his home, trek elsewhere then pop the tablet in a dock at another location. Not unreasonable to think it will be offered.

Has anyone mentioned the 'Record' button on the controller? After looking at the controller several times you can see it. On the top left and right there are the Start and Select buttons. On the bottom right you can see the 'Home' button and on the bottom left is clearly a button featuring the Universal symbol for 'Record.' Are they using the Nvidia Hardware Encoder for capturing gameplay?

I think the detachable controllers will feel similar to the NES controllers, which I don't think is a bad thing. I constantly forget how small those things are.

Well, its either a cable.... or a cable/dock/power adapter/controller to accomplish the same thing

everyone!

or no one?

or just nintendo fanboys?

i'm thinking the latter

I don't get posts like this. If Nintendo just did a PS4: Nintendo Edition would that not be for Nintendo fanboys? Does Nintendo have to add more gimmicks instead like the Wii?

What would make a Nintendo console not "for Nintendo fanboys" to you?

That's a good catch, I was wondering what that symbol was.

I don't see them doing a dockless SKU- on top of it being advertised as a core aspect of the system, unless there's something crazy going on in it it's probably not that expensive to produce compared to the console itself. The thing you plug the side controllers in for TV mode may have a decent cost attached, but again, the whole idea here is that it's a portable/console hybrid, making an SKU that effectively only has what you need for portable play doesn't really make sense.

The name is even more giggle worthy than the Wii.
Makes sense that Nintendo are a bunch of Switches with how often they go from top dog to 2nd class generation to generation.

I hope the screen is 1080p at least... would've loved if higher, but Nintendo.

With that, they could've still did some type of VR with this thing. Sliding it into Samsung Gear type of thing.

but if it's 720p, like the dev kit is...I don't think that works. They might be missing out on an opportunity.

If I want great graphics, VR, and tons of western AAA support, I'll use my PS4. Switch is going to serve the same niche as the 3DS and Wii U and be home to a lot of RPGs, Indies, Japanese games, and of course, Nintendo stuff.

Nintendo doesn't need VR to be successful. It will have it's own unique brand of games.

So is that middle "dock" that each one of the detachable controllers can hook into a charging port? Has green lights on it like they're charging....?

Alright, I'm all in folks. This is a console that was made for me. As a handheld gamer, this is everything I've dreamed of since I was a kid.

So Dual screen games are dead? I just can't see they would kill of the DS/3DS line with this. Obviously you can't play 3DS games on the go, no 2nd screen/no touch either. It literally carried the company this generation.

I hope 3DS developers make the same type of games for the Switch as they did for previous handhelds.

I'm hyped but will wait and see.

The system, dock, and Joy Con unit are one package. The Pro will be sold separately.

For people who want multiple docks...I have idea, but that might just be something you can get from Nintendo.com.

As far as I know, they won't be selling the system without the dock. It's not like that would make a huge difference in pricing.

Outside the Nintendo faithful I just don't see who this device is aimed at.
Core gamers not interested in first party games will ignore it due to the system spec
Kids are already more interested in tablets ipods ipads
Casuals might but I'm not convinced people are interested in carrying around yet another device along with their cell.

I just don't see this doing any better than the wiiu

nah, the dock likely isn't just a simple dock and adds extra resources for the system to use to make the console gaming look better on a bigger screen.

I would have preferred if the handheld version was designed to be a nice handheld instead of a large clunky thing with clunky controllers.

I bring my vita/3ds on trips or buses because they are a lot easier to carry around than my tablet. this thing is basically useless as a portable for me, which just leaves it as a home console, which I will be paying a premium for the portability that I won't use.

it's basically the wiiu all over again where I am going to have to pay a premium on a tablet device that will make little impact on most games I play, while getting specs of a budget console at a full console price.

The NES controllers aren't even close to how small these things are, not to mention the controls being bunched up on one side of the controller.

I think they'd look great if they did:

handheld alone for $199 (for the handheld audience, prices it below 3DS when it launched)

handheld+dock for $249 (for the console audience, prices it below the Wii U AND below the PS4/Xbone currently)

handheld+dock+pro controller+zelda+other goodies (Zelda VC games, special gold console, whatever extra cool shit) for $299 or maybe $349. basically for the hardcores who want to give Nintendo money.

Nintendo being Nintendo, though, I expect to be stubborn and refuse to sell it without the dock. Even though you can get the full experience just with the handheld, or just with the tv...

Yup thats kinda what I posted, gotta hit the mass market prices

one expensive SKU could get to off to a slow start

$199 is an impulse buy for casuals
Obviously they can sell the dock as stand alone, even if people didnt know it needed the dock for tv play, they will just go back to the store and buy one lol

isnt that the case with any gaming system, phone or tablet, Computer? If you take it with you the people at home are not gonna be able to use it.

But there is the possibility that, you can use user sign ins like on Xbox, PC and PS4 with a real account system

I need 1 dock and 2 tablets. Trust I won't be they only one either. The dock will have "guts" that I just won't need. I also think that the portable crowd won't need the dock at first either.

This console is the very definition of optionallity. Modules for controllers, selfie sticks, docks and Lord knows what else.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!

Agreed. The dock, portable, and non-pro controller is the base-level SKU. They aren't going to sell the dock and portable separately. At least not at launch.
