See. This is part of why Hillary lost. People like you just discarding people instead of trying to win their hearts and minds.
That's literally impossible unless you agree with their horrible stupid ideas.

It's not like Trump got 100% of the vote in all of those states, so Dumbfuckistan's a bit unfair. I think reasonable people living there would understand the sentiment, though.

here is a little anon reasoning on why trump won...

So it's ok for their candidate to talk shit about various groups of people?

But don't you dare call them a racist!

Makes no sense whatsoever. If this was correct, democrats would win every single election. Like, you do realize that the republican platform has been all about demonising democrats for quite a fucking while, yes?

It's also hilarious how it's okay for him to call groups of people slurs and insults though. You'd think he'd lose if the reasoning was correct.

The only way to do that would be by appealing to their racist instincts. No deal.

I mean, Trump won their hearts and minds, so it would be literally impossible for progressives to do the same. (unless they sell the fuck out, of course)

???
He's stated multiple times that he believes these conflicts should be state issues, and he does support abortion for rape/complications.

Trump has actually been PRO-LGBTQ longer than Clinton (who literally flipped on the issue less than six years ago lol). Do you guys just Google the first result for "Trump LGBTQ" or something?

It's really sad how absolutely brainwashed this site is, didn't help that anyone who openly supported Trump got perma-banned. But I guess at this point who really gets the last laugh right?

Ehh, not entirelytrue. She's been supportive of civil unions since 2000, was against same sex marriage (but still civil unions) during her time as a Senator and first Presidential run, and fully supportive since then.

What's telling, and why people constantly bring up sexism in how we judge her, is that Obama also held similar sentiments, being against same sex marriages until 2012 and wasn't ever labeled a flip flopper/liar

Okay, do you need ground troops to do any of this? No, not really. Trump can just rally behind any other force trying to stop ISIS and still keep the US in the background.

- you didn't say anything about ground troops, you said he didn't have any interest in the Middle East
- how realistic is it for Trump to somehow eliminate ISIS while staying "in the background

My dad's rationalizing it as everything Trump was saying was just for publicity and using the media because he's a businessman and knows how to play the media. And now he's going to change because you can't act like that as the leader of the free world

His foreign policy opinions go back at least 30 years. You hear him saying the same things in interviews down through the years. He even took out a full page ad in a newspaper in 1987 to voice the same type of opinions he talks about today. It's not a gimmick, it's what he really believes.

Trumps main foreign policy weakness is Asia, not sure why people keep making it about Europe.
Hes basically said he will cut support for South Korea and Japan, unless they do more for USA, plus a trade war with China.

NATO wont change, whole leadership group is full of people trained at USA military colleges, half of which will be on the pay roll of a lobby group (Joint cooperation "encouragement" groups) when they retire. Same shit in Australia.

He practically promised to request a protection tax in exchange for US Support.

Trump also said he would be asking Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and other countries “to pay more for the tremendous security we provide them.

SANGER: But I guess the question is, If we can’t, do you think that your presidency, let’s assume for a moment that they contribute what they are contributing today, or what they have contributed historically, your presidency would be one of pulling back and saying, “You know, we’re not going to invest in these alliances with NATO, we are not going to invest as much as we have in Asia since the end of the Korean War because we can’t afford it and it’s really not in our interest to do so.”

TRUMP: If we cannot be properly reimbursed for the tremendous cost of our military protecting other countries, and in many cases the countries I’m talking about are extremely rich. Then if we cannot make a deal, which I believe we will be able to, and which I would prefer being able to, but if we cannot make a deal, I would like you to say, I would prefer being able to, some people, the one thing they took out of your last story, you know, some people, the fools and the haters, they said, “Oh, Trump doesn’t want to protect you.” I would prefer that we be able to continue, but if we are not going to be reasonably reimbursed for the tremendous cost of protecting these massive nations with tremendous wealth — you have the tape going on?

SANGER: We do.

HABERMAN: We both do.

TRUMP: With massive wealth. Massive wealth. We’re talking about countries that are doing very well. Then yes, I would be absolutely prepared to tell those countries, “Congratulations, you will be defending yourself.”

SANGER: My point here is, Can the members of NATO, including the new members in the Baltics, count on the United States to come to their military aid if they were attacked by Russia? And count on us fulfilling our obligations ——

TRUMP: Have they fulfilled their obligations to us? If they fulfill their obligations to us, the answer is yes.

HABERMAN: And if not?

TRUMP: Well, I’m not saying if not. I’m saying, right now there are many countries that have not fulfilled their obligations to us.

Funny info: the Baltic countries are actually among the best spenders in NATO.

Keep on doubling down on the rhetoric. The election shows that progress needs EVERYONE aboard and not just a few groups. As much as GAF hates blue collar midwestern America (for both legitimate and non legitimate reasons), they have very real concerns and issues that Hillary did not speak to, and they are clearly a powerful voting group. It's time to have a conversation and not an argument.

The guy those blue coat midwesterners voted for ran a platform entirely dependent on not having EVERYONE aboard. What you're proposing doesn't work with reality.

We would have been fine if the electoral college wasn't borked or black voters weren't so pessimistic about a country that kills them for no reason even with a black man in the White House. A more charismatic candidate would help too.

So tired of this "hearts and minds" shit

What about the black/Muslim/LGBTQ/Hispanic people who are in these place and have to deal with hate on top of "economic anxiety?"

Is being broke a free pass from thinking now?

Are YOU winning hearts and minds?

Not to belabor your point in the slightest, but Obama was for same-sex marriage back in the 90's but sometimes you gotta play the game.

His VP and his party want to roll back any recent rights given to LBGT people.

Clinton and the democrats want to continue to improve their rights, so what does anything she said about civil unions matter?

Trump has promised to appoint highly conservative Supreme Court judges, so what does it matter for he claims he'd help LGBT people?

Didn't Hillary basically ignore some of the states on the thought that she already had won them by default?

And I am also referring to how the situation was on GAF where Bernie supporters were told they weren't needed.

It was quite a thing to follow some people laughing at people who were worried, and saying how this must be the first time they are following a presidential election. That it always goes like this and Clinton will definitely win. Sometimes it was pretty condescending even towards their "own side."

One of the funnier ones was that there was this one fellow telling people to stop worrying because Clinton would win this, this, that and that state. He dropped states off the list as the election went forward, but he was still as optimistic and aggressive in telling people to stop worrying. This went on until at one point he dropped all the previous states off the list and picked a new one. He went on with that surprisingly long and with exceptional endurance and vigor! I think he eventually stopped posting, until it became clear Hillary wouldn't win. I think he came back with tons of anger and depression.

Basically a tragic thing but I can't help to not see some humor in it. It kinda reminds me of all the Nintendo E3 Direct Hype threads :)

Yes, but this doesn't have anything to do with what we're discussing. People underestimated how threatened dumb white men felt.

Bernie supporters should have voted for the platform Bernie supports.

No. You know what, no. I've been seeing this reasoning all over the place and it's complete and utter bullshit through and through. I'm not saying it's not true, it might very well be, but if someone comes at you with a criticism or a label that you don't agree with, and your instinct is to rear back and go in the opposite direction out of pure spite, you're a child. You're not an adult, you're a child. Someone offline or online calls you racist, and your response is not either to try and understand why you illicited that reaction out of someone or to just brush it off, but to lash out and swear revenge? You're the problem. Not them, you.

Every single one of you people who shout and stamp your feet like "I didn't want to be like this, you made me do this because you said mean things!" are either actual children who have no concept of responsibility or are lying to cover up that you're just an asshole. It's the same rationale that abusers have. "I don't want to hit you! If you just acted better I wouldn't have to!"

Fuck you and fuck everyone like you.

Trump winning over the hearts and minds was enabled by Government making no effort to address those concerns. Trump is not some amazing once in a lifetime politician or anything. He is a man who examined and took advantage of a growing cancer within the system.

Its easy to just shove the head in the sand and scream racists, assholes etc. Its far easier then actually taking the time to look what led to this. These same people in the Democrat Firewall states that went Red had no problem voting for Obama before yet now its suddenly all about white supremacy. No for those people its a very simple fact. They have been left behind for 30+ years with nothing being offered to improve the situation.

So yeah Trump lies and bluffs his way to their hearts because he is at least pretending to care.

I still remain unconvinced that the deplorables comment or judgemental attitudes was the deciding factor and not the strategic failure of the campaign to identify the Trump's resonating message of anti-trade policies bringing jobs back. Seems more like a way for Trump supporters to say "I told you so". Not to say things didn't get heated but the flow of hate speech was hardly a unidirectional phenomenon this cycle.

Said the group of people who discarded Blacks/LatinX/Muslim/Women/LGBT+ instead of trying to win their hearts and minds.

This ain't the 30s and no one is fooled by this abuser rhetoric.

you're telling a lot of people to go fuck themselves

most people don't do self-reflection of any kind and using loaded language will shut them down

There becomes a point where I really wonder how fragile Trump supporters are. They are called mean name, the people they demonize are having their humanity threatened. Well, minorities tip toeing for the majority is nothing new so it's w/e. We grew thick skin for a reason.
