Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

how would you tell if it's damaged before opening the box? Just the box being all bended and crumpled out of shape?

Don't worry though, they'll call me back in 1 to 5 business days.

Here's the side view, literally bent at a 5 degree angle. I lined the base of it up with my phones grid.

Edit: Been badgering them on the phone, sounds like the only thing that can happen from here is they send in a tech (god knows when) and they evaluate it.

Double Edit: Can't help but laugh and resist the urge to call them and tell them they sent me the curved model on accident.

Clearly you got the 8750

Curved both ways... Sorry

ok guys so the ks8000 is my first 4k tv. now i calibrated the tv while watching a 4k looped video from the youtube app on the television. i think it looks amazing and i am happy with the settings but going back to cable it looks almost exactly like my 1080p tv. I was under the impression it would upscale better? is their anything i could do or is this just crap cable service?

Who is your provider? This has me a bit concerned.

Well the source on Cable is likely 1080i. So of course it's going to look like your 1080p TV. Upscaling doesn't make it magically have clearer image. It's still a 1080 source.

i know thats why i asked if it should look almost identical because this is my first time using a 4k tv.

That's great.. My (former) Vizio P series made DirecTV look like a poor quality YouTube stream.

There's no reason it should look significantly better just because you're on a 4K display. If anything, once you've seen higher quality content you'll start spotting more of the limitations in low-bit rate HD content.

Whelp, so much for that, my TV came in fucking destroyed. Thanks Samsung and AGS.

Ugh... I Have a 65" coming and its being handled by these guys. I'm terrified as I had a Vizio 4K tv earlier this year that showed up with a busted screen.

AGS is garbage. My TV wasn't destroyed, but they never had my number (had called to inquire and gave them my number) and when they called to deliver the guy was rude and only had a 1 to 5 pm slot to deliver. What adult is home during those hours? I had to take the day off

Samsung upscaling isn't as good as Sony. But you're right. It cannot improve a poor signal. Watch a movie like Tomorrowland 1080p on nerflix on your television. Will look amazing. Your cable is heavily compressed 720p/1080i data. Very little your television can do to improve it. It is crap cable service. You are seeing the limitation of 720p/1080i/1080p especially a low quality source.

It didn't come today and I didn't receive any notifications. So I'm just confused now. What does this mean? Anyone else get ONTRAC or has used ONTRAC before?

Newegg uses ontrac. Its really, really bad and inconsistent. They never deliver to apartment offices either, they just drop that shit right at your door no matter if anyone answers or how big the package is.

Call them tomorrow. I find that helps...a little.

Alright thanks. Their customer service hours are... Limited to say the least. I'll try to call between classes.

The commitment time is supposed to be the delivery date though right?

I think so? My commitment date is tomorrow so we'll see for me I guess. /shrug

Really not a fan of the shady as hell shipping companies samsung uses though. Won't ever be buying directly through them again. :/

Contrats! How do the PQ on those sets compare, especially contrast and clarity? 902 is obviously FALD, but what about everything else?

And how much did it cost btw? It's £4000 here :(

Thanks, the Tv is much nicer in home than it appears in a showroom surrounded by other sets. Speakers are much much better, menu system and features seem to be on par with the Samsung. Picture wise I'm no expert but I think Samsung may have a slight edge with SD content. HD looks amazing on the Panasonic and I think UHD also looks better. Backlight is huge steps better. One area where the Samsung definitely wins is that it has the moth eye filter to stop reflections on the screen, that feature really works well and the Panasonic has nothing like that. On the Panasonic HDR seems more natural and a touch brighter at the same time, Samsung is still very good in that area. I think either set is a fantastic buy if you get a set with no issues. I only made the change because of quite severe backlight issues on my Samsung.

Overall the Panasonic feels like a very good quality set, it seems very well rounded and I have no real complaints. Viewing angles are supposedly bad but it doesn't affect my current setup at all. And as a smaller detail, the remotes are much better quality and better laid out than the Samsung.

Edit. Cost was £1919, I returned the 55" 9000 and 8500 UHD player for £1878.

Any UK folks on a budget with advice to share?

Looking for 40" / 43", 1080p only, HDR, and low latency. £500 absolute tops and hopefully less ... Realistic or no?

I found a couple of sites reviewing low latency sets, but struggled to find those models (or certain, cast iron equivalents) being sold in the UK ...

That actually broke my heart a little.

I'm so sorry, mate.

Why 1080p only? You can get a 4K LED from Argos for £420.

Really? Oh ...

What I'm trying to do is prioritise low latency and HDR. So I'm working on the assumption that I can't get that on my budget at 4K. Since I'm upgrading from 720p, I think a high quality 1080p screen will give me more joy than a low quality 4K one.

That's my usual way of looking at things, but I have no idea if it translates to TV buying! Thanks for the idea though, it's food for thought.

One thing I noticed when shopping for 4K HDR is that the response times on these sets were poor. At best your looking around the 20ms mark, and that's at best, Many are offering 40ms and up. which makes games feel absolutely awful. Not only that, but a number of sets actually disable HDR in some of their modes. Some of the Samsung sets won't do HDR in 'gaming mode' then outside of that mode have something like a whopping 100ms of input lag, utterly unplayable from my perspective.

Does anyone have or know of sub 10 ms display lag 4K, HDR TV? I ended up buying a 4 MS 4K monitor because I think for me, responsibility is always going to trump any visual component of the game. I don't see the point in achieving what amounts to better colour, if that also means sacrificing responsiveness, and for anyone that plays online competitive games, it's a big deal. At the moment it seems like the high responsive, 4K, HDR sets don't exist, and a big part of that is probably because HDR monitors don't exist. Typically, if you're using a TV to play video games, you're already sacrificing responsivity for some superfluous features, HDR is a little more than that, but i don't see it being worth the sacrifice.

Unless I'm mistaken that is. If there's a 4K, HDR, gaming suitable set out there (sub 10 ms display lag) then let me know and I'll snap it up. Something to bear in mind is that the 'respnse rate' advertised by TV manufacturers does not mean anything either, unless tested for display lag buying a new TV is like rolling a dice in regards to what you get.

The 6000 which is the equivalent of the 6300 in the U.S is a pretty phenomenal TV for its price.

The simple fact of it is, I don't believe there is a 1080p with HDR outside of LG's OLED line.

http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300

If you can stretch though, I'd go with the one above. HDR is going to bring you over your budget very likely. Maybe Hisense won't if available in your area, but they are kind of middling.

Okay if the KS8000 + PS4pro can't do 4:4:4 that's a problem on the Pro's end right ? It's still "safe" to get the TV yeah, it's not the Tv's issue ? I also understand that having to use 4:2:0 isn't the worst thing in the world either right, or is it actually that much worse than 444 ?

Note this is in reference to 4k@60hz.

4:4:4 Can be done if you want by setting the color space to 8 bit. The main reason 4:4:4 Is important is in fine color details with graphics design work and documents with fine text. 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 are still good just not suited for the kind of work mentioned previously.

HDMI 2.0 is limited to 4:2:0 at 10 bit due to bandwidth limitations.

HDMI-color-spaces.png

Generally speaking when gaming normally you won't really see a huge difference though. these compression methods were designed after all to essentially deal with the limitations of the human vision and leverage that to increase bandwidth efficiency while retaining most of the IQ.

So basically it depends on what you're doing and using the TV for what settings you should have.

One last note with HDR you really do want 10 bit. If you try to use 8 you can start getting color banding that can be bothersome to most people. Basically 10bit gives you a much smooth gradient between colors on images as it has more colors to access essentially. So 10bit 4:2:0 is better than 8 bit 4:4:4 for HDR content.

Afaik no TV on the market can currently do 10 or 12 bit 4:4:4. Hopefully we see some monitors and TV's with display ports in the future though.

I feel like I need another degree to understand all this lol. Is there no consensus or clear winner as the best 4k tv for gamers? Is there an absolute best tv to get for the ps pro/ scorpio for under $1,200?

You're shit out of luck. I think the lowest are the Samsung screens at about 20ms.

For anyone unsure, 16.6ms is 1 frame at 60fps.

What size do you want is going to affect that answer as is any brand preference. I'm not a fan of Samsung products which limited my choices somewhat, for example.

I am pretty sure no TV exists with Sub 10ms of Input lag let alone one that does HDR. You must be super human to need that low of input lag in the first place.

Plus you keep mentioning response time, which is something totally different than input lag.

I got my email confirmation at ~8 p.m. PDT (CA), so I think I submitted the order an hour or two prior. Just got standard shipping as well. Nice surprise. I honestly thought the order might get canceled as a price mistake or something :D

Wouldn't happen to still have any EPP invites would ya?

I'd prefer at least a 55" that can do all the latest and greatest things that these new pro gaming systems are coming out with. For brands I actually prefer Samsung and Sony for tvs. I've been creeping in the threads on Gaf about the Sony XBR43X800D and the Samsung ks8000 but I just don't have the tech understanding to know which is better.

I was brought over from the best buy bf thread.. Someone mentioned I could get a ks8000 for a little over 1300 shipped from Samsung w/employee pricing is this something I can get invited too?

Ks8000 better, x800 cheaper

Is there a way to get Game Mode switched on with HDR+ for my Sammy KU506020?

I am sure I saw that you could have both on rtings website... when I turn on HDR it just greys it out.

Are you sure you want HDR+ on?
From my limited understanding, HDR+ is the simulation of HDR and not true HDR.

I could be wrong though!

For myself, I'm cross posting this from the KS8000 thread.

Ok, can someone just clarify if this is all ok?

Model: 49KS7000 (8000 in the US)
PS4 Pro
Resolution: 3840 x 2160 - 60Hz
Colour Format: RGB
HDR on Your TV: 2K / 4K Supported
HDCP: 2.2

On the TV itself, I have HDMI UHD Color set to On for all the HDMI ports (Does it matter if its on or off, will it make a difference on any of the other HDMI ports bar the one the PS4 Pro is on?)

And on the PS4 Pro video settings I have it set to Automatic for everything.

I know I need to fiddle with the settings to get to my personal preference, but I'm hoping the information above is all correct before I move on to calibrate it.

I wish people would at least try to read through some of the thread. Same questions have been asked or answered dozens if not over a hundred times now.

It's like the in every thread. Even the launch thread has a faq and the same questions are being asked lol.
