Pence is pretty predictably awful though, whereas Trump is unknowably erratic. The downside risk of a President Pence is much lower.

As much as I get the idea of probing an overweight man at his age, external appearance doesn't always correlate to internal. We should know that by now. Heck there's chain smokers alive in their 90s lol. Biology, wonderfully diverse.

I'll have brief periods of being able to forget about it, but then I'll wake up at 3:30 am and not be able to go back to sleep, and spend half the day with my stomach in knots. I keep telling myself to let it go for now; that even if the worst happens I at least have the next few months of relative sanity to enjoy before he's taken the office, the press and protest crackdowns begin, and we all see exactly who got elected by a narrow minority of Americans.
But I just can't escape this dread, this feeling that the country as I know it... the world as I know it is about to end. I want to believe that the people of this country are basically good, and that even some of the people who voted for Trump will be willing to fight back if he starts doing things like jailing his dissenters and suspending elections for "the safety of the nation." I think back to all of the people who were convinced that W. Bush or, crazily, Obama were going to do similar dictator-like acts and want to believe that all of this is just similar paranoia to that.
But something about this feels different. And part of me wonders how I'm going to stay sane during the next few years if even half of my worst fears are realized.
