Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Still on a COD high after playing Infinite Warfares campaign and wanting to get a Backwards Comp COD game. How do COD2 and Black Ops 1 run on XB1? Which is more fun to play through in terms of campaign?

Is Xbox One working for the rest of you? My messages are taking a long time to load & they don't at all.

Edit: Nvm, got it to work somehow. Logged in my 360 then back to Xbox One. Playing through Mass Effect 1. Need to play part & 3 after. Been ages.

My Pioneer plasma upconverts better than my Pioneer receiver - and 480p stuff still looks pretty bad. Compound that with the output's anti-aliasing and you've got a recipe for trash.

Do these images look spectacular? No. They are not trash either, but that is subjective. The important thing to remember is if MS does bring OG Xbox games to X1 they will run at a higher resolution just like the emulator did on Xbox 360.

Curiously, is there an input lag issue with 360 games on the XB1? I kinda thought so, but Skate 3 feels like it is really laggy, to the point it is hard to play. It also has a really jumpy framerate, constant hitching.

It's on a game to game basis from what I know - I believe there is at least some introduced in all games but I know games like Gears of War 3 suffered from it worse before being fixed. In terms of Skate 3 - I haven't had any performance issues myself.

Thanks. For me, Skate 3 does stay at 60fps but hitches constantly with stuck frames, bad frame pacing. I can't recall how it performs on the 360.

Y'all are crazy. Male lead in SO is cannon.

Why are you so keen to end up on my ignore list?

I played an hour or two of Sunset overdrive and didn't really like it. I don't think playing as a girl is gonna change that.

Its pretty fun I think

I play as a girl :), but not sure how much of a difference that makes for havin fun

See? As I said, it's a FACT. Female voice >>>>>>>>>> Male voice.

Gonna FINALLY play Mass Effect 2. I beat the first game 5 years ago, and I honestly don't remember anything. What is the best way to refresh my memory?

watch a youtube vid of someone doing a side mission in ME1. just the one. Then you'll go. Oh, that.

2 is good and a very different game from 1 (which was great, in a different way).

I want Buffy on Xbox One but I am not sure what kind of licensing hell that might be in. Maybe it's not in licensing hell at all though.

I really wish Dark Souls would get a performance patch. The frame rate drops are pretty bad. It has also frozen up on me.

Still worth playing again though.

Let's see what they have in store today, it being Tuesday AND their birthday

*100 Xbox Original games made BC. Works with discs. All have achievements added in. All purchasable digitally. Includes games like Halo 1, Halo 2, Project Gotham Racing, Panzer Dragoon Orta, GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, Max Payne 1, Max Payne 2.

*Nier announced as BC (and Nier Automata port announced for XB1 Holiday 2017)
*Catherine & Persona 4 Ultimax & Arena announced as BC (with Persona 5 port announced for XB1 Holiday 2017)
*Tales of Vesperia announced as BC (with Tales Of Vesperia 2 announcement, exclusive to XB1 February 2018)

*Blue Dragon 2 and Lost Odyssey 2 announced

That's not that much to ask for. It's Tuesday and it's their 15th anniversary after all. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

it sure wasn't a sale that's for sure. Since that seems to already be up.

To be fair there's a Flack Briday sale starting this Friday, seems a little redundant to start a Xbox anniversary sale today then have a BF sale going on this Friday. Can't help but feel like it'd be smarter to just have a huge blowout sale coincide with the BF one rather than split the both.

Very very reasonable! :P

The Genesis DLC for ME2 will show a comic of all the main story beats from the first game and let you pick the outcome of them. If you don't want to pay for it though then just go on the wiki page and read the story synopsis.

Ahh ok, that makes sense. Didn't know they were starting this friday.

Even if OG Xbox compatibility isn't in the cards for tomorrow (and in all likelihood it isn't), I really hope they do it eventually, and do it the right way.

  • Full physical compatibility with the potential of digital rerelease.
  • Reactivation of OG Xbox Live, emulated in a fashion similar to how 360 Live exists on the Xbone right now.
  • Special Anniversay OG-inspired Xbox One controllers/GameCube controller-like adaptor with rerelease of specially branded anniversary OG Xbox controllers, full compatibility with all games.

Now. None of this will ever come to pass. But a man can dream, can't he?

I expect disc compatibility at most. I don't think original Live is ever coming back, though.

Issues:
- original Live is also tied to the actual original Xbox, so they'd have to deal with OXboxes suddenly being able to connect again, and support that
- a lot of games needed more than just the central Live server, but also needed middleman servers made by the devs in lots of cases to facilitate matchmaking or other features. (it was very bespoke back then for each game)
- it's dead code and could be open to exploit or attack

I'd more likely expect them to pull an XBC and let you play the LAN modes with friends over Live. That would pretty much make every notable OXbox Live game playable online, except for any EA ones.

Didn't the tweet say fan favorite BC titles? *Looks at most wanted BC list* Everything was COD...

I'm not even sure what I'd be interested in. Curious what they will have.

I think Phil meant Mass Effect 2/3 and Skate 3 when he said that.
Unless there's another big one dropping today.

I don't know how technically feasible an emulator within an emulator is

I wouldn't want it, even if it were a possibility. Original Xbox emulation on 360 was a far cry from what we're getting today with 360 BC. Pretty much every game had some sort of technical issue, from framerate problems, to textures not loading, to some 'supported' games being straight unplayable (I'll always remember trying to play Silent Hill 2 on my PAL Xbox and being met with a blank screen).

Adding another emulation layer on top of that? I shudder to think.

Now that you say it. The wording was for "Novemeber", right?

If so, I probably should lower my expectations then.

It was Major Nelson that said we're in for a big announcement on the 15th. Everybody hoped it was OG Xbox BC, but Phil shot that down in a tweet by saying he doesn't want people to get overhyped and that it isn't OG Xbox BC. I'm hoping for the emulator to make its way to Windows 10. I think that would be the best move Microsoft could make right now to speed up adoption of the Windows 10 store.

Marvel vs Capcom Origins.
Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Marvel vs Capcom 3.

All of three back compatible and available to purchase on the store.

Let's gooooooooo.
